Valve will release Dead Air early ... if 20K people unlock this Left 4 Dead 2 achievement
57
Valve's revealed an incentive for Left 4 Dead 2 players: if 20,000 of you unlock the Stream Crosser achievement on Steam (finish the Cold Stream campaign on any difficulty level) this weekend, it will release the Dead Air campaign from the first Left 4 Dead early, on July 22. Sorry, no word on remaining L4D campaigns Death Toll and Blood Harvest -- they're still slated to be included in the final release of Cold Stream, which is currently in beta.
Of course, because Valve is a company full of diabolical geniuses, guess what's on sale right now? Left 4 Dead 2 is 75% off today only, bringing it down to $4.99.

Fair warning. Even on easy, Cold Stream is BRUTAL.

Really? I just played through it, and I think it's difficulty is pretty comparable to most of the other campaigns. Challenging, but not brutal.

meh the hardest part seemed to be in the tunnel b4 you fall when you go downstairs through that door a shit load of zombies come swarming towards you and your group. Other wise it's one of the most fun campaigns to date.

Why bother? Valve's porting all the L4D campaigns to L4D2... the Dead Air campaign mentioned in the article is one of them.
Personally, I'm going to do this achievement just for the ticket for the Steam Summer Sale.
The problem is, I didn't have L4D2 installed and the game is a honking 11.3GB now.

@Kougeru Right, because everyone has a 300Mbps download speed and Valve's servers can certainly handle that during their huge sales. 11.3GB is a pretty damn big download.

Apparently the achievement doesn't unlock unless you do online campaign, singleplayer doesn't work. Just an FYI for anybody who wants to get it.

That's odd, it didn't unlock for me. I'm connected to steam and everything, not sure what the problem is.

Doing this also gets you a ticket for their summer contest. Which is the reason I did it, since I don't play L4D2 enough to care about new maps.

I don't have it on steam, might have to pick it up!

@Crimsic Even if you have a 5 year old computer, you can still run Left 4 Dead 2 if you mess around with the graphics settings a little.

I own a PS3 (barely use) and a Wii (dust gathering for the past 2 years). I was under the impression the "... And because you touch yourself at night" line would let people know I was joking/being sarcastic.

Nope. Not tempted. I'm still flat-out refusing to purchase this game until its uncensored. Yes i live in Australia. I love Left 4 Dead, but out of principle, until the R18+ rating is introduced late this month, and unless L4D2 gets uncensored, i won't be buying. Which is a shame cause i love the first one, my most played online FPS since CS:S.

@Foetoid I feel the same way, although I picked the game up on a sale for next to nothing some time ago.. The level of censoring is absolutely ridiculous. The day I install and play it again is the day it is restored to its intended form. If that's never, so be it.

@Spectrus If you purchase it through steam and are in Australia, yes, actually. I think a friend of mine had it bought and gifted to him by an American steam user, and that apparently has worked for him, but I have my doubts that is even possible for me now that I already have it in my account and purchased in Australia.
Oh well. I'm almost as sick of zombies as I am of shooting people.

Until today I'd only played Cold Stream in versus, my mode of choice. But I was happy to do it in single player just now, just for Dead Air, which will always be my favorite L4D1 campaign.
Also, do we know if Crash Course is coming with the final version of Cold Stream?

I remember hearing about this campaign a while ago, I just never got around to playing it. All in all, it's a solid campaign. The tank entry in the first chapter was great, and the water effects were a nice touch. I will note that the fourth chapter pissed me off due to the fact I thought that the safe house door was stuck. Maybe it's just me being stupid, but there should be more direction.

I'm sorry everyone, but I'm afraid I do not own L4D2 nor does it appear that I shall own it anytime soon due to monetary constraints. These factors and more prevent me from completing the challenge. I do hope that you will forgive me for being unable to help out. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. -God

I hate how the Xbox 360 (and PS3) L4D2 communities get shunned while the pc players get these types of perks. And no, I don't care why it is the way it is, so don't tell me.

Don't worry, the console fanboys keep saying PC gaming is dying anyways(has been for 20 years), so the perks of playing on PC won't last forever. Right? Right?
Like SpaceGhostFlyer said, it's not Valve's fault. I know Microsoft(not sure about Sony) requires all content DLC have a cost, which is why Valve's games get so few patches on consoles, much less free ones. It makes me glad I don't play games on consoles. All this free DLC on PC is great.

Consoles are fun and all, but Valve typically perks it up for PC/Mac users.
Nothing against consoles, but I've come to prefer PC gaming lots more.
