They really hit it out of the park for me with this one. I'm really looking forward to it.

And those damn annoying guard posts that respawned in a few minutes. Get rid of those and I'll love it.

Why don't you just play call of duty if that's what you want? There's plenty of nonstop shooty action there. Its nice to have some games that can slow down the pace and let you soak in an atmosphere. Sure, Far Cry 2 had plenty of flaws, chiefly the insta-respawning guard posts, but I found the parts where I was exploring at least as enjoyable as the action parts.

@Keadin FC2 was an eye opener for me. First "great" 360 game i played. The African environment was superb. I loved how they incorporated fire into everything.
A couple of draw backs included the map size (and transportation), the enemy spawning system (the unpredictability was cool, the frequency wasn't), the purchasing of new items was a tease because I never seemed to have enough diamonds...
I loved the game and have been jonesing for FC3. Here's to hoping that multiplayer gets an upgrade (team up with Dice!)

Exploring had nothing to do with it taking 20 minutes (sometimes a lot longer) to get from mission to mission. The game was great, but do I really need to drive in the jungle for 15 minutes (that is actually quite a bit of time) just to get to the town that will give me the mission and then have me drive the same distance back to where I just came from to complete the mission. Counting the respawning checkpoints I was actually being generous in only complaining about 20 minutes. And for the record, at the end of the day I would rather drive for 24 hours straight in FC2 than play another COD game.

@The Cole Train You know, if you clear out the guard posts properly, and 'explore' them thoroughly, they don't respawn with guards any more. The game even tells you when you've done it, and the icon on the map changes.

@Helghast102 from the demo it looks like you level up by gaining skillpoints you can allocate. I think thats largely unnecessary but it will probably be fun regardless of how I feel about adding things like this.

FC2 was a top 5 of this gen for me so I'm waiting for anything in that vein. Just hope they can get the voice acting right this time they really screwed the pooch on FC2 in that sense.

I too, loved FC2. It took me 50 hours to beat it on hardcore, and I still had a bunch left to do.

@LEONLEONLEON I've played more video games than is healthy.
Far Cry 2 is for video game conoisueurs like myself (and RedgeHammer here) who understood what Ubisoft were trying to do. I have written lengthy dissertations on why all the sheep were wrong about the game and I am right but I dont feel like enlightening anyone today. My old posts are on the game forum's discussions on xbox.com and are the smartest thing any human has ever written.

@Fire Walk With Me - It doesn't matter what they were trying to do as it had to many issues. Your guns would age and stop working but the enemies weapons did not. You could empty half of a mounted machine gun in to a bad guy who is wearing just jeans and a t-shirt and still not kill them. Just to many inconsistencies.

@carbonize I cant answer to the mounted gun problem you had as one of my techniques for respawning checkpoints would be to drive as fast as possible right for it, quickly switch to the mounted gun and wipe the place out in under a minute. A lot of people complained about the checkpoint but I always got the impression they were simply playing the game poorly.
As for enemies guns breaking: in my game they never lived long enough to see a gun age.

Please Ubisoft remove the point system, don't ruin the beauty of a game without a HUD, this is Far Cry not COD, thank you.

@jmr1986 you mean to say "dont ruin the beauty of the game WITH a HUD" correct?
If thats what you mean I agree I hope you can turn it off.

@Fire Walk With Me No, what he said is correct. This game doesn't seem to have a HUD, and he doesn't want them to ruin the beauty of that.

@Poindexter Buckley the HUD is in the lower left hand corner of the entire movie.

They're both right, it depends how you read it. He's saying don't ruin the beauty of a HUD-less game by giving it a HUD ("with a HUD").

This looks fantastic!! Question would I have to play the other two? Is there a story in these games or would I be good just picking this one up?
Posted: Jul 8th 2011 1:05PM ptcamn said
@psnkillstrike
Nope. FC1 and FC2 were completely unrelated. The story in this one seems to follow that pattern of being a standalone story, so no need to play the previous ones.
However, if you want to play them just for fun you will have a good time with both of them.

Makes me miss the feral powers, those were a lot of fun. Far Cry 2 was basically "You VS Africa" and this once again looks like "You VS the jungle" so I'm not really that excited for it.
Posted: Jul 8th 2011 12:15PM Fire Walk With Me said
@Pennegan the overarching story was really You vs. You but I hear what you are saying.
If FC2 was Blood Diamond what movie is this? Romancing the Stone? Who will be Danny Devito?

FC2 was a great surprise for me, I got it from a Steam sale for $5 and wasn't expecting much but playing with fire was a lot of fun. Hope this has more of the same (except for better acting, as someone else mentioned).

@Cranky Penguin the acting wasnt even that bad its just they had it sped up or something. It sounded like the actors were speed reading the lines and came off as really odd.

I really wasn't that impressed with FC2, but I commend them for attempting an open world fps. The map system may have looked realistic, but it was a nightmare to navigate & gave me motion sickness using it while driving. The glider seemed like a great idea but was utterly pointless except to get some conveniently placed inaccessible diamond briefcases. I never played the first one so I don't know if these feral powers would've made it more fun, because having malaria certainly wasn't. Voice acting was Just Cause 2 bad.
Posted: Jul 8th 2011 4:06PM WiredKnight said
@Jay Me
No. The voice acting was not *that* bad. Maybe it wasn't great, but it sure wasn't terrible.

I get what you're saying, it could be annoying at times, but I kind of liked it just because I felt like a mercenary lol. I didn't hate the respawn frequency of the guard posts though, I agree that they should make the frequency random, not the same 3 minutes everytime.

Aside from a little too much driving (and having to look in my lap at a map while driving), I loved FC2. I have high hopes for this one, and I desperately hope they bring back the map editor!

Has anyone complained about quick respawn times at FC2's checkpoints yet? What about inconsistent enemy AI?
Posted: Jul 10th 2011 7:46AM sgtZipper said
FC2 sucked IMHO, because of the malaria and the countless times you run into enemies while getting from A to B. The rest of the game was awesome, but that kinda ruined it for me. I played it on xbox. Still I'm gonna try this one, but rhis time on my new high-end pc :-)
