Check out the video above to check out this impressive tool in action. Keep an eye out for the few frames where a wizard steps in and performs the series of magic spells required to make something like this work -- we missed them our first time through, but we know they're there.
Minecraft designs tossed into 3D printer, we're pretty sure a wizard did it

You, sir, just met your match.

@Zdark
I couldn't agree more. Man you talk about a low barrier to entry for a modeling program...
Side note: By chance remember the giant Bender statue someone created a year ago or so? I would totally snatch up a finished piece.

@aray48 The application of the technology is new. You may as well make your comment on every post about any video game.

@aray48 You don't quite seem to know what "application" means. Id din't mean they used a new computer program.

It's an interesting use of Minecraft, but if I wanted to print something in 3D people can find far more efficient ways to build a model than doing it block by block. That said it's; truely interesting from a mincraft perspective. In fact it's probably damn awesome if you've spent weeks building something in it, but that's about it.

I was expecting it to be more cube-y, as if it printed all the individual cubes, just stuck together. But it looks like it got significantly smoothed out by the printing process, which makes it significantly less interesting and significantly less minecraft-relevant. Why not just print an actual companion cube model?

You think that is impressive?
How about building a 3D printer WITHIN Minecraft to print models outside of Minecraft in the game.

He is also creating DDR within Minecraft and it is coming along quite nicely. Someone who can write music needs to join up with him on his server.

Or you know, I could just save myself the time and draw, model it in autocad which I've been doing for years for my architecture models..

@(Unverified) You know what, instead of building it in AutoCad, you could just think of it! Then you don't have to waste any time at all! So many years of architecture modelling you've already wasted!

@Design by Adrian Sure, were it not for the fact that I have to present these models to clients to visualize the buildings I design for them. Because thats what you do, as an Architect.. My point was, IF you really wanted to have a miniature sized portal cube, you're better of modeling with some CAD software, it'd be a lot more efficient and accurate.

And upload it to any 3D print service like so: http://www.shapeways.com/model/11695/weighted_storage_cube.html?gid=mg
