Theres a flaw in your article: you can NEVER be sick of Jumping Flash. Mirror's Edge can suck it, Jumping Flash is a real first person platformer!

There's a flaw in your comment: You can NEVER disrespect the greatness of Mirror's Edge.

Why did you use the Wip3out / WhipEout 3 logo? The Pocket Gamer article clearly states that it's the original.

Why does no one know if PS one games are ever coming to the American Android Market for American Xperia Plays? It's preloaded with Crash Bandicoot, but that's it. I remember a news article where sales weren't that big, but that doesn't explain why they won't even try in America.

This is precisely why I'm proud of my inner skeptic regarding the Experia play. I'm not going to invest in a platform that may or may not get games nor a phone that already has outdated hardware (by phone standards). Why buy the Experia Play with all of it's limitations when you can get a PS Vita?

@dragunrising Well, I bought it because I wanted a new Android phone, and I wanted to get one on Verizon Wireless. So I got one that just so happens to be PlayStation Certified. I just wish PS one games would come over here sometime.

When it was (finally) formally announced, they said one of the first regions they wanted to release it in was the US. Not only did it come out two months later in the US than in some countries, but a lot of articles I read seem to talk about apps available for the phone as if what's in Europe is available worldwide. I hate to complain though, since I'm sure that's how you guys feel most of the time.

Being outdated hardware compared to other phone does not prevent developers from making games optimized for it. In fact they would be missing valuable segment of the android market.

Xperia Play owners are more likely to buy games than other android smartphones even with the low installed base right now. and that was testified by Gameloft game sales back in April when launched in Europe
http://playstationlifestyle.net/2011/04/08/xperia-play-becomes-gamelofts-best-performing-android-platform/

Samuri II: Venggence was exclusive to dual core tegra2 device. now the game is out for other android phones.
It runs remarkably smooth and very well suited for the xPlay gamepad. It made me wander why dual core was needed in the first place for that game.

What's holding the Play now is the lack of PSN integration, but I'm telling you it's coming with the launch of PlayStation Suite.
Some people found PSN references In the PlayStation pocket app code structure, not visible in the ui yet.

you have to navigate through Root Explorer to Com.SonyEricsson.PsSuite, there's a few things in there about PSN
It is just a skeleton for the stuff to be added later for PSN, it's not active code yet.

The vita is really lovely and I'm getting one at launch, but its not a phone and I'm not planning to carry it around with me all the time as one either.

@linebeginstoblur Siphon Filter, Medieval and a couple others are on the market for it. Incompatible with the Verizon Xperia Play for some reason though.

I almost bought an Xperia Play. I was pretty close to pressing the checkout button before I went to find out how easy it is to root. Turns out the Verizon version hasn't been rooted yet. No emulators, no buy. The content sony's been providing is simply not enough.

@CaramelZappa this isn't the iphone, emulators work without root. My Xperia play on verizon has metal gear solid, Syphon Filter 1 &3, Twisted Metal 2 & 3, Tony hawk 1 & 2 and so on....dont let the no root yet hold you back. It will come in due time but until then you can still use emulators

So you can install non-marketplace apps without rooting? (I'm obviously not very well educated on android)

The only other thing I want to know is if you can use the phone as a mobile hotspot without being charged $20 on top of the already ridiculous data plan.

@CaramelZappa Yes you can. You just plug it into your PC, enable USB data transfer via the prompt on the device. Drag your APK over. Use a file explorer on the device and run the APK, it will give you a prompt to allow unknown installations, enable that and bam. You're done.

Also, there are emulators on the market, FPSE being what you want if you wanna play PS1 games.

SYPHON FILTER... jeez, I haven't played that in awhile. I should dust off those games and give it a spin next weekend.

Which, of course, will probably remind me why they have dust on them to begin with.

What a coincidence! Just this morning I was thinking about Jumping Flash and how happy I was when it was ported to PSN for the PSP a few years back. Happy times.

Too bad you still have to repurchase those games for the third time. PSN integration should have been there from the start, but I guess it's Sony Ericsson and they wanted to go Android all over it.

I never actually played these games, although I believe I heard that Syphon Filter was good. Actually, on the topic of PS1 games, my copy of Crash Team Racing no longer works, and I made it even worse when I tried to fix the scratches. All I wanted to do was play that game. Guess I should stick to new games instead of always trying to go retro...

I love my Xperia Play. The only problem I have is that you can't disable autobrightness, and for some reason all PS1 classics are incompatible except crash that comes on the device.

Been playing Diablo PSX and some other games on it. A damn nice device.
