KOF XIII trailer is a combo of combos

Atlus is showing off its North American release of King of Fighters XIII with the above trailer, which strings together combo after combo, of varying styles and intensities. If you like seeing well-drawn cartoon characters being hit several times in succession, you came to the right place.

In a press release accompanying the trailer, Atlus confirmed an October 2011 release date, and that the North American version would share Japan's recently announced console-exclusive Billy Kane character. He's been away since KOF 2003! Well, he was in KOF Maximum Impact 2, but that only kind of counts.

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- JULY 11, 2011 -- ATLUS today shared a host of details about the upcoming console release of THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIII, the latest entry in the legendary fighting franchise, for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system (PS3™) and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Just as was announced recently in Japan, it was today confirmed that KOF XIII will release in North America this October, giving fighting fans the promise of a holiday season filled with their favorite KOF combatants. ATLUS accompanied the release of information with a new gameplay trailer that offers fans a thrilling montage of fast-paced KOF action, appearances by some of the new characters, and a preview of the explosive new NEO MAX supers.

Reaffirming their and SNK PLAYMORE's commitment to completely revamping the online experience to deliver smooth and stable play and to address fan feedback from the previous entry in the series, ATLUS also today gave fans something to look forward to with confirmation that the North American version will mirror the upcoming Japanese release with its promise of new console-exclusive content. Billy Kane, a favorite from the Fatal Fury series, is one of the new characters only found in the home console version of XIII. He commands the KOF ring with his segmented staff, deftly keeping his opponents at bay.

In addition to new characters, KOF XIII also offers many more stages and game modes not found in the original arcade release. More details regarding all of the new content only available in the upcoming release of THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIII will be released at a later date.

@Donpablo According to active arcade goers and KOF fanatics: XIII is one of the best KOFs ever made. I was skeptical at first but after watching streams of it as of late. The game looks fantastic. A buddy in Cali played it and called it: Godlike. He and I both played XII quite a bit which we both agree is crap.

So sleep easy, my friend. KOF has returned to its former glory.

@Freedom I also heard XII was so bad so I just assumed to stay away from this franchise. I have played and enjoyed the older games but I find it hard to believe that they could have turned things around so drastically for the better in XIII. If this is the case, then great! Can't wait to see some reviews when it comes out.

@Freedom Sweet jeebus, well that's great news to hear. I'll be looking forward to it when it lands in October.

@Donpablo -- You don't have to worry. It's just the continuation (and end) of the Ash Saga, so there are a ton a characters and more console-exclusive characters (not in the arcade version) to be announced, like Billy Kane.

KoF series as a whole has always been overshadowed by the likes of Street Fighter but the games have always been rather solid. 98: Ultimate Match, 2001, 2003 and XI probably being the best of the 13+ games SNK has put out since 94. XII is just bad for numerous reasons and very well could've been the cause for SNK's death. I think diehard fans just were in such an uproar about how bad the game was that SNK just shut up and listened.

Honestly, play and judge it for yourself. Just because a reviewer or anyone for that matter says a game/book/film is bad, it doesn't mean you will consider it bad. I legitimately enjoyed the new Splatterhouse and the "critics" destroyed it. "Critics" said Brink was decent at best but my friend loved it. I would go as far to say White Knight Chronicles was better than Final Fantasy XIII, having played and completed both. So judge it for yourself, you might be missing out on something awesome. You don't know until you try.

It's a 2D fighter without a bunch of stupid bells and whistles gumming it up. If they find some way to screw this up, then they need their heads examined.

BlazBlue is cool and all, but SNK is the god of 2D. Now we just need netcode that's not shit.

Those unsure about XIII due to XII

XII yes was indeed a abomination, despite having new graphics, the overall game made KOF 2001 look like GOTY.

XIII is indeed, the "im sorry, lets make babies" KOF game, stages, soundtrack, characters, and (gasp) a conclusion of the Ash crimson story to boot. its all there, except Geese Howard.. :(

anyway KOF XIII is worth buying for all the kof fans out there.

I really need to buy this game now, not to many might know but the game has been leaked all over torrents from earlier this week. You can only play it on PC at the moment, but I recommend everyone to support SNK. You know that artwork took some serious time to do. And they need that money for a proper netcode too.

idk why people keep talking about xii i feel the people that talk bad about game never play the previous games or they are just plain stupid and are blind it by the other crappy fighting games out there but xiii its in is way so now the real fighting begins getting a copy for xbox and ps3 i just hope they make a collections edition.
