I really want to make a comment about ps3 passes now. On one hand paying for online doesnt seem the way to go, punishing people on a budget.

On another, should I feel bad for a company that says games stop hurts their profits when they give gamestop stores free stuff as a way to promote both their companies? You want me to shop there to get free dlc, but dont want me there when Im done playing the game? Seems like companies dug their own grave there. and 6 billion in profits... yikes. last 1/4 will be the big one too.

@Cavall - We wouldn't have to be bring up anything if gamestop would profit share. its not like they are earning "pennies" on these games seeing that most titles see a 15$~25$ increase in re-sale vs given trade-in value.

So on one hand yes, its a bit of a douche move but on the other its a way to make revenue and stay in business to make these games YOU want to play.

My point is though, if they dont want Gamestop to do so well, why are they promoting gamestop with DLC content only they get? Or best buy or wherever?

It just seems like they want us there to buy games, but not to trade any games in while we do so. Then dont entice us there. They arent helping themselves.

Game Pubs/Devs are NOT providing Retailer Specific Pre Order Bonus offers (DLC) out of the goodness of their hearts.

Retailers are paying the Pubs/Devs for said exclusives in order to garner sales over their competitors.

This isn't rocket surgery.

@butterandgames But they are making dlc for them, knowing it promotes a business that will end up costing them more.

It isnt brain science.

The problem is gamestop isn't profit sharing, instead of including the online pass with the game (yes I know they do with Mortal Kombat) they charge $47 for the game. Add in the $10 pass and now it's $57.. $2 more then a new used game without a pass. Not to mention that $10 is always an extra fee, even when the game is down to say $19.99, it's still another $10 for the game.

Gamestop should just automatically include the $10 in the price and take a SMALL $2 hit on the game. It's the right thing to do, especially when you consider that a good portion of Gamestop employees are NOT gamers and don't know which games do and don't have passes.

Costing them more? One should clearly see that NOT having their games sold in B&M and Online Stores would be "Costing them more".

Once again, it's in their best interest to support these various retailers with whatever Pre Order Bonus Offers they can provide. They get paid for the game sale on top of providng the DLC.

The $10 Online Pass model already solves the issue of Pubs/Devs NOT getting anything out of used game sales/trades/etc.

Buy a clue.

Yes, at the expense of the consumer.

The beef with used game sales lies with GameStop, nothing more, nothing else. It makes little sense to punish the average joe trying to save a few bucks by forcing them to pay and extra $10 on every game he buys used.

If they have a problem with GameStop's used game business, they really need to take it up with GameStop, period. Giving GS exclusive DLC and otherwise acting all lovey-lovey with the retailer, then turning around and saying "USED GAME SALES ARE THE BANE OF THE INDUSTRY. I BLAME CONSUMERS" reeks of unscrupulous hypocrisy.

I've definitely feel like I spent less this year on new, boxed games than I had around this time last year. Then again I probably bought more hardware and downloadable games and DLC this year so it probably evens out.

I likely will buy RE Mercenaries 3D used if the difference in price from a new copy is significantly lower.

So where are those that were saying publishers were hurting financially and were right to implement online passes?
