Yes, DN2 so much needs a sequels or something to further Houseof Marque's excellent production values for downloadable games.
They truly have set standards for an over saturated.Enjoyed it after countless playthroughs with only 56% of trophies. Challenging game alone or in co-op.

i know this is definitely unrealistic but wouldn't it be cool if sony were to put up older versions of their current franchise for temporary free play to all PSN users to promote their newer future titles, or if they could update the psn store more frequently and offer Steam-like sales to some of their older games like say Resistance FoM or uncharted 1 (why theyre not on the psn as of yet is a mystery to me) to drive some sales and further promote digital sales as well as give the franchises a boost in promotion for the late PS3 adopters.

I totally agree - what Steam does is awesome and quite smart.

Give PSN users a free-to-play week of Warhawk, MAG, or some other online game, and your guaranteed to see at least something of an increase on purchases on the games the weeks after (not to mention great publicity for the upcoming Starhawk).

Yea I don't know why after a year of them finally putting full retail games on PSN there is only like, I don't know, 12? One per month? Yet they were able to put up practically the entire PSP's log in one day when the PSP Go was released...

IMO putting up all their old games for like 20 bucks would sure help against used game sales of those particular games.

Sure, it would definitely be cool. However, unfortunately for them, if they predictably released prequels of games for free, I would essentially never have to buy another game again. I'd just wait for the free release. I'm in no huge rush...and "free" is quite a bit of savings.

I know some people just have to have their stuff fast, and maybe that'd be plenty to make this proposition work. I certainly hope so! I'd love to get everything for free!

that's true but it doesn't have to apply to all their games on a frequent basis, it could be like those full game demos you know or throw out the occasional free title? its not like Sony is making much money from the old games any more these days anyway, especially since they more than likely to sell used than new anyway.

"Essentially, in order to drum up interest for upcoming sequels, publishers could release their respective predecessors for free for a limited time. The report acknowledges that this is a risky maneuver, though it notes that the free titles would only have to boost sales of their sequels by a small margin for the practice to be profitable."

So, basically you are just quoting the last paragraph of the above story? That is what this market research company said already: release free-to-play originals to drum up sales for the sequel.

well....yeah, but It doesn't necessarily have to be free. It just has to be a good enough offer to serve as a tool for advertising the sequel for the game like having uncharted 1 available digitally for a cheap price (maybe comparable to used pricing or maybe cheaper) or otherwise as a full game demo for a week or so to expose PSN users(not just plus users) to the series. Kinda like they did with Assassins creed I and II a few weeks ago, i never played them and now i own both and really am enjoying them, I just bought brotherhood on my PC from steam with the summer sale and am planning on getting revelations when it comes out all thanks to my experience with the first 2 on PS3.

I also think it will help Sony make PSN a definite place to go for their First party games. Kinda like what EA is trying to do with origin with their games and content and (steam-like)pricing instead of having to go through a retailer. I'm sure if the price is right people would buy from them over getting used, they can take some of the money out of the used game sales with this, which is better than making no profit at all right?

@MSKiller aka Sony4life I don't know seems very cynical all around. I believe Justin McElroy called it on Sony's "gifts" basically being free hits to get interest for sequels (LPB and Infamous being singled out as I recall).

I really don't see that except for this gen, but Sony is far from done, their handheld alone can equally or come close to what MS and The big N can hope for a console, so Sony's next console will be extremely sick, not PC standards sick but easily accessible SICK.This is not the nd for ony.

I really feel that the biggest hurdle with online stores like PSN is reminding everyone that they exist. Sure, WE all know about them, but just think how many people who own PS3's never, ever even go on to PSN even once.

Giving away a free game every few weeks just to get people swimming around on the store might be really profitable for them in the long run. I know it would make me visit.

I really hope that they do actually adapt that model. In the wake of a disaster, Sony may have found a really profitable concept that will also boost customer attachment rates.

No love for Infamous? I am playing through 2 and it is FREKKIN' AWESOME. (granted, it takes longer to finish part one than either Dead Nation and/or LBP, which could explain why people haven't jumped quicker to searches/downloads of part 2).

It's probably the sales on downloadable titles which did the most to spur download sales.

Assassin's Creed II Deluxe and Burnout Paradise Bundle are/were what like $8-10? That's nearing Steam Sale level of pricing not to mention that currently there's a PSN Summer Sale and next week is a 2K publisher sale.

I'd like to see Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo do way more of this without needing the prodding of massive security breaches.

I credit people just happy to be able to download stuff again more than the Welcome Back program. Funny...I downloaded more games since the service has been restored then I did before it went down. And I was already a Plus member.

thats great they needed that. I don't want to rain on their party or anything but i'm sure sales were up because while PSN a lot of good things came out or were supposed to come out so when it came back on those people that were interested in those things went ahead and purchased them imo.

This kind of reminds me of the 7-11 article on Monday referring to how businesses offering a "Free _____" (in this case, a Slurpee for 7/11)usually attracted more customers into paying for similar/other items available in the stores.

Admittedly, I did spend a lot more on PSN during the "Welcome Back" Program too, including on PS HOME. So I guess I "drank the Kool-aid™" too.

It was just a month of backlog playing catch up. June (theoretically) had twice the amount of content than it should have. (Though I'm not sure how that actually panned out. It seems they dropped the ball on their multiple weekly updates.)

Of course, if that becomes a habit, you run into the danger of people like me just waiting for the free version. I pretty much only buy games that are six months old anyway since I can usually get them for around $25 at that point. Hell I'm just now getting around to playing Bioshock 1 (for which I paid $14).

Isn't this sort of common sense though? With PSN being nearly down for a month, people had to wait longer to make their purchases so when PSN came back online they did... a large influx if people who had to wait longer to buy stuff they wanted at the same time equals higher numbers in downloads for said month.
