I think you mean 'SHABLAGOO'. ;)

Despite the haunting & daunting preview, I'll have to see & play this one myself. However, the RESISTANCE series does know how to make a player feel inadequate compared to larger foes, tanks, and tasks at hand; so it's something to look forward to. I'll keep an eye on further preview videos...

Excellent preview. I really can't wait for this game. Resistance FOM was the first game I got with my launch PS3, and it was one of the best launch titles for any system I've ever played. The action was great, and the multiplayer was absolutely incredible, it had me playing RFOM well into the first and second year I had a PS3 (and consequentially the big argument "PS3 has no games").

Insomniac Games has always been my fave developer, Spyro, Ratchet &C, Resistance, what an amazing track record.

Great review, i personally would pick this game over MW3 or BF3 this year [implying i can only pick one out of the 3]. Fall of Man was my first PS3 game and i hope this is a fitting end to a great series. Also, i hope they shed some light on what happened to Hale, i have a hard time believing one bullet could kill him.

The online co-op itself in Resistance 2 was amazing but I agree it would be nice to play through the campaign in co-op mode.

They let you do that in the 1st resistance too, but I agree that the gun handling was awful in resistance 2. I'm lookig forward to this game though, as R:FOM is one of my all time favorite FPS. #2 was.....ok, it wasn't awful, but it didn't follow the expectations that the first resistance set.

"What sold me on Resistance 3 was what it did right that the franchise has never seemed to nail in the past."

There are some considerable, smart changes to the core action. For starters, you can now carry all the guns instead of just two, which, in a game that's all about weapon variety, makes a heck of a lot of sense.

In a likely more controversial move, gone is the auto-replenishing health, replaced by health packs scattered none too liberally throughout the environment."

Funny since Resistance 2 had both heath packs and ability to carry all weapons

Well, he specifically said "...that the franchise has never...", so it's easy to see how readers would get the idea he meant the ENTIRE FRANCHISE has NEVER had them till now, meaning ANY of the games that make up the franchise. I don't think you're the only one confused by that.

correct me if I'm wrong but couldn't you carry all of your weapons in the first one? and haven't there always been health packs in this series?

Resistance 1: No limit on amount of guns carried. Uses a health bar & health packs.

Resistance 2: Two weapons at a time. No health bar and uses automatic regenerating health.

The first game actually had regenerating health as well...but your health meter was split into 4 quarters. If you health completely depleted the 4th bar, for instanced, you would only regenerate up to the 3rd bar.

Kind of a compromise between needing health packs vs cod4's health regen.

I just hope the enemies don't have (1) lazer pinpoint accuracy like in RFOM and/or (2) the irritating quicktime sequences from R2 which made the game feel like tedious trial-and-error at times (plus the lack of the full weapons wheel).

Did you happen to try the game using the Playstation Move? I would like to know how it holds up to the regular controls. Killzone 3 controlled better with the Move while Socom 4 was much better with the Dual Shock. My sharp shooter (and move controllers) are gathering dust.

I was already planning on getting the game day 1 anyway. This preview made it a midnight wal-mart run. Glad to hear its amazing. The only question for myself is whether or not I'll buy the game individually or get it with that Playstation branded 3DTV / Resistance bundle. I just need to see the TV in person and test out that no split screen multiplayer feature ... I'm more interested in that than I am the 3D.

R2 grievances:

1) removal of weapon wheel and 2-weapon limit in place
2) lackadaisical story
3) annoying, tedious quicktime sequences
4) general lack of R1 feel

Dual pack, because it two games instead of 1. Borderlands was good, but, IMO, Resistance 1 was better.

I don't think playing Resistance 1 & 2 is really all that necessary before playing Resistance 3. The main character from the first two games is different than the one in Resistance 3. I just think it depends on what type of games you like and what you'd rather play. At this point I'd imagine that the Resistance 1 & 2 games are pretty much dead online so you'll be playing both games for the campaign. The campaigns are fun but story wise they are nothing special ... but at the same time I have to say for whatever reason I absolutely hated Borderlands. Two games that were praised (Batman Arkham Asylum & Borderlands) as possible GOTYs just didn't resonate with me. So, while I have nothing positive to say about my experience with Borderlands I can tell you that it's a high quality game.

So I am biased against Borderlands anyway but I would say you can't really go wrong with either. If you want an open world type of post apocolyptic shooter get Borderlands ... If you want a story driven single player campaign get Resistance. Also, keep in mind Borderlands has a lot of DLC that expands the story which Resistance does not.

Borderlands is really meant for couch-lounging with a good friend. it has no story. It's basically a dungeon crawler, but with guns.

R1 is great.

R2, I didn't like as much. I've heard the MP is fun though (I only got around to sp).

The double pack is a good choice. GOTY borderlands would be good too. you really can't go wrong with either. I'd run with the double pack if you don't have any friends with spare time at the moment.

Anyone who like the premise and story of the Resistance games should check out this new show on TNT called Falling Skies. It's got very similar subject matter / tones and is produced by Stephen Spielberg. It's actually a pretty awesome show.

I agree that there isn't enough action and the story is kind of dragging along at a snails pace. I thought the last episode was the best one yet. I especially liked it when that Dr. lady shank'd that alien in the mouth with the scalpel and imprinted that news paper with her bloody hand print. We'll see how the rest of the season plays out but to this point its still something I have in my DVR series recordings.
