That's probably because the only console advertising Netflix on TV is the Wii.

@Rouma Yeah if you ignore the fact that Netflix commercials don't even mention the Wii specifically and show the other two consoles right next to the Wii, then yes this number is all because of the adds on TV. Next time watch the commercials instead of fast forwarding through them on your DVR and assuming that your poorly drawn out conclusions are correct.

@OldsXCool Good gravy ...

Perhaps you've never seen the Wii Netflix commercials, where a film-scene is interrupted when a character receives a Wii Remote, is all confounded, and concludes with something of the lines of 'Netflix on Wii'

1.5 million is quite the solid number. I didn't even think 1.5 million people had used their Wii in the past *duration since Monster Hunter Tri was released*.

I'm not hating on the Wii, because I own one and love it, but the past year or so has been almost void of games, so at least people are using it for something.

Congrats to you, Nintendo. Now give us some bloody games.

@Epoque

While all of those games are amazing and were released post-MH3, I can't help but feel MH3 was a bigger release for the system, being a huge third-party title.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 was amazing though, Ninty need to give the Wii a third installment, as a final salute to the console that helped them recover from the Gamecube. I bet my 4 defective Wii Motion+ that if it happens, it'll be a Wii U title. ANY TAKERS!??!?

Super Mario Galaxy 3 as a WiiU launch title using just the regular Wii control setup but in HD is all I want.

I wonder what the stats are for the other consoles. 1.5m is impressive I'm sure, but it means little to me seeing a number without context. It's still good for marketing and investors though.

Streaming Netflix is the only thing I've used the Wii for in the last year or so. It gets used a lot for that.

Which is kind of amusing considering Nintendo's former resistance against the Wii to be a media device rather than a game console.

Wow you do a fine job of raining on their parade cap.

What next you want to analyze how that number might drop after their new pricing plan.

@CapAmerica you might want to check that stat again. I'm 100% sure that 87 million number is world wide install base. Also consider that Netflix only has about 23 million subscribers. So I'd say 1.5 million is a decent figure.

And more precisely the article states that its 1.5 million daily Wii netflix views.

So that's over 10 millions netflix views on a seven day weekly period. And over 40 million Wii netflix views on a monthly basis.

I can see why it doesn't seem that impressive though.

So are you trying to say that the 1.5 million Netflix users who are accessing streaming on the Wii daily needs to be multiplied in order to get the "true" number of how many people are using it... Sounds like Sony math there.

If 1.5 million are using it daily, then I'm pretty sure it close to 1.5 million in general who use it all month long, people are not switching off each day like a kid between divorced parents. Most people use Netflix every day or at least a multiple times each week.

Nintendo is just trying to make their service sound better by saying "daily" if they truly had impressive numbers they would have come out and said X many people use the Wii for Netflix, like what Microsoft did back in 2009 when they hit their 1 Million "Subscribers" were currently using Netflix (not daily, but TOTAL) milestone.

Funny how the Wii can't play DVD's, but it can stream Netflix. Wasn't Nintendo's argument against DVD playing: "Everyone has something that can play DVD's. They don't need another device. We're going to focus on games." (or something like that)

Netflix is becoming so widespread, it's almost ceasing to be a "feature" of note.

Nintendo's argument was that everyone had a DVD player. To compare, how many Wii households had a Netflix player?

They Wii has more users connected to the internet. While PS3 and Xbox are above 60% the Wii had about 55% from the last poll I saw on that subject. That number alone is more more then PS3 and 360's each.

It really is hands down the best Netflix interface going.

3DS interface isn't bad either, save for the odd "Search" keyboard layout. Why not use a qwerty layout, Netflix??

I really liked the 2009 Netflix interface for 360, that's still my favourite. It doesn't have the functionality of the current interface and the interfaces on other consoles and devices, but I loved how it was a seamless blend from the dashboard look and feel.

Doesn't really surprise me too much. My sister is the only one that uses the Wii anymore and she uses it solely for Netflix.

I guess this is the reason they decided to split the streaming and mailing into 2 different packages...There's a whole market doing one or the other (young people streaming and old folk mailing). Unfortunately there's usually 2 people in the same household using the different methods so now the household has to pay another $8 to keep streaming.

Not too happy about that...

Nice number, but I'd like to see the other consoles for comparison. Frankly I'm more pumped on the idea of the 3DS having 3D movies (hopefully through Netflix.) It's not like my Netflix account is limited to just a Wii, I know plenty of people that have it tied to multiple systems. Congrats Nintendo? Whatever.
