Its not 200 dollars for a set, its 200 dollars for a case. A case just brings 20 random boxes, your bound to get common repeats, The rare ones probably go for 100 dollars by themselves on ebay.

Yeah kidrobot is an expensive thing to collect

neat, but $10 seems a little steep. $5 would've been a sweet spot for me. $1 would've been an automatic buy.

Its like buying sports cards. Pretty cool idea. I really want to order one or two. I guess you could always sell them on ebay for your money back if you dont like who you get.

@The 7th Number It works for sports cards because there are a ton more players. Each pack also contains multiple cards so it somewhat mitigates the feeling that you wasted your money.

I'd be pissed if I bought several of these and I got duplicates. Justin Wong posted on his Twitter that he purchased 5 and got 2 Guiles and 3 Kens. LMAO.

You are exactly right. I was about to comment on that as well. The grin is much too wide for Ryu. Perhaps they mixed up the heads during production.

Lets see, cheap plastic, small height, sounds like 3 dollars a pop. Oh wait, its video game related! Well now we have to raise it to 10!

I honestly feel the main reason they cost so much is because they think the people who would buy it for 10 would rake in more profit than charging it for less. They do somewhat have a point. There's very little middleground between a fan and a manga obsessed otaku.

@MLS True, but since they do things no one else does (even though everyone else is more than capable of doing it) they feel justified in charging whatever they want.

I LOVE the Kidrobot Simpsons collection, which have the same look as these SF figures do. They are a bit steep in price, but the quality and attention to detail is very well done.

Oh look, more overpriced Kidrobot blindbox garbage. Ten dollars a pop is way too much of an asking price. I'd consider buying a complete set for $20, possibly $30.

Yes, because ordering one, paying shipping, and having 1/12 chance of getting the one you want is soooooooo high-brow.

Maybe they'd just like to get one particular one, and not have to play slots with the damn company?

Of all the things to act smug and superior over, a small vinyl figurine. You are a sad person.

@Ilikesoup Problem is, this shit doesn't work that well outside countries like Japan. There are clubs, hangouts and conventions everywhere in Japan and chances are you have more than enough friends to trade with.

In America, unless you're living in a city, chances are you'll have to resort to Ebay. If that's the case you should just use Ebay to buy instead.

So, the only goal with these figures is to trade them for their value or make a profit.

Nevermind the fact that someone might just want ONE because it's their favorite character. No, we have Mr. Snobby Vinyl Figure Collector telling us we're doing it wrong. That's we're supposed to buy a couple dozen, and sell the excess on eBay. Or join a local community just to pawn off the ones we don't want.

Oh, and I believe blind box means exactly that, blind box. Each box is exactly the same. So unless your local store lets you open each box, you are still buying them blind.

Tell me, do you sip your Starbucks mocha lotte triple grand super espresso soy-blend nofat with whipped cream and cinnamon sprinkles while looking down your nose at everyone else and call them "plebeians" because they aren't as hip or as noncomformist as yourself?

@Ilikesoup

That's ironic, because I hate Starbucks.

"you cry out as if there was any doubt about your needless sense of entitlement. If you can't afford to buy at least one case for yourself then this is not the investment hobby for you."

See, there you go again.

This doesn't have to be a hobby if someone just wants one. The idea of expecting one to buy an entire case just to get the one you want is elitist and absurd. We're not talking Japanese capsule toys for $1 here. We're talking Street Fighter 2 vinyl figures for $10 plus shipping.

It's like someone wanting to get a Luke Skywalker figure, and they are dismayed that their local toy store is sold out, so you tell them "If you can't be bothered to show up as the stores opens, as soon as they put the case out, and buy the entire case in hopes of getting a figure. you don't deserve this hobby."

That's what your feeble little mind can't grasp. Not everyone treats this as a hobby which you want to get invested in. Someone wants a Chun Li, or a Blanka to stick beside their computer, they shouldn't be denied the chance to order the one they want. Do they have other options? Yes. Find a site that will sell you the specific one. Find someone on eBay with it. But to dismiss them just because your hobby is precious to you, and you can't stand the idea of someone actually getting what they want without the sweat and toil you had to endure to get your collection, is elitist to a ridiculous level over a ridiculous thing. These aren't like limited edition Japanese vinyl figures that have a run of 200 and can only be bought one one day a month after you get lucky in a drawing.

Blind boxes are not new to me. But being the manufacturer I think they should allow a little leeway when it comes to ordering them. But of course, they won't, because it gets them more money. It's your elitist ass that is hilarious about how serious you take someone saying "dang, I want a specific figure, not ordering a whole case for $200."

Let me explain this to you again. NOT EVERYONE SEES THIS AS AN INVESTMENT HOBBY. SOME PEOPLE JUST WANT A FIGURE FOR THEMSELVES.

As a Star Wars fan, I don't think I have ever seen someone as elitist and assholish over a Star Wars figure. And I can name some figures that would probably be worth more than your entire collection combined.

Kid, I am talking about figures before you were even born. Back when Kenner still had the license. I am talking about a single, non-limited, non-special Luke Skywalker in my example. Kenner didn't shortpack figures back when the line first came out. The line wasn't guaranteed to be popular when it was released, and shortpacking a figure would be stupid. And you still missed the point. The point is not to collect a figure, but to have one. You don't seem to understand that. Not every person who buys a figures is collecting them. For someone who's going to open the package, put the accessories on, put it on it's stand, and place it next to their computer, getting up when the delivery truck delivers the crates isn't an option. You need to stop thinking of people buying these kind of figures as ONLY collectors, and see some of them as normal consumers.

Surprise, surprise, some kids are actually going to buy figures, and open them up and play with them. Figures are not exclusively a collector's market.

And my point still stands. You are acting like an elitist and an asshole over VINYL FIGURES. I would be embaressed to be seen doing that on a website.

I doubt being of age to remember the original Star Wars trilogy makes me a "grandpa". I guess being over your age, which I guess is 17 or less, makes me a "grandpa".

You just can't get over it, can you? You can't admit someone might want to buy one figure? All you have is your sad clinging to the fact that you have had to buy case after case of figures, when it's perfectly logical for a company to make individual ones available. except it makes them less money.

You just can't accept the fact that figures are not ONLY meant to be hoarded in a box, protected from light, in an vaccuum-packed box. You can't accept the fact that the average Joe public might want to get an individual figure because he likes the figure or character. Not to make money off it. Not to make a collection, simply because he likes the figure or character. Simply buying a single figure is impossible in your opinion. If someone buys a figure, it must be for a collection, and to make money. Figures are put out for no other reason. That's why they are sealed to a solid metal back, with an unbreakable, unremovable bubble. The networks running Clone Wars aren't meant for kids.

I like collecting figures, too, but you are the kind of obsessed collector who would spit on a 10-year old and gloat in his face because you got to a figure a few seconds before he did. You need to learn figures are both a toy, and a collectible at the same time. You cannot stand the fact that someone might get one figure, and one they want, without having to put in hundreds on a case. You cannot stand the fact that someone might "encroach" on your territory without being an obsessed collector themselves. You keep spouting about how people shouldn't "invest" in this stuff if they don't have the money, does the money you had to pour into cases to get figures you want burn you up? Did you have to make back what you lost in local swap meets and eBay?

You hate the fact that anyone could buy an individual, because you bought case after case. Hundreds and hundreds spent to amass a collection, that you feel threatened by when a regular person gets a single one. You are a sad, sad individual. I bet if you ever have kids, you'll scream at them when they want to open their toys, "FIGURES ARE AN INVESTMENT, NOT A TOY!"

People like YOU are why companies can get away with shortpacking one figure per case, put out an announcement about limited availability, and laugh as people trip over themselves to get to the store. You don't even qualify as an obsessed collector. You qualify as an elitist obsessed collector. Your kind of attitude would put most Trekkies to shame (and I know, I am one.)

And the irony is, I don't even want any of these figures. The only one I would have any interest in, Chun-Li, I don't like the design of. My arguments are for the people who WANT them. People who see them as "hey, this is a neat little vinyl figure of my favorite fighting game character, I want to get one", not the obsessed, rabid, snarling, "how dare you think you can touch this without having to go thru the pains I have to", spend $200 on a box to get one figure collector.
