Nice. Can't wait to finally be able to play this. I would prefer to use Kinect, but I don't want to run out and buy a Kinect for this one game. Here lately I have been playing PS2 games because there isn't many decent new releases.

I took my copy of Legacy of Kain: Defiance over to the homie's house so we could go through that one again. It's been forever, and it still holds up quite well.

The only Legacy of Kain game I ever played was Soul Reaver. But yeah, a lot of last gen games I have been playing holds up quite well. But I do miss some current control schemes and camera control.

FINALLY. Just... just give it to me.
And make sure it has Move support. That's literally the only reason I'm buying Move.

@Fire Walk With Me

Blame it on the dev and marketing teams who utterly failed to clearly define their product.

I still have no idea what the hell this game is. I keep hearing about some rhythm based shooter thing that in no way reconciles with the screens and title.

Consumer confusion leads to consumer apathy.

Ah, the screens match up perfectly considering it's predecessor is Rez, a rhythm based shooter.

It's true. It also didn't help that some stores didn't order enough of them at launch. The day it came out I went to 3 places to find it and none of them had a copy. Hell, the guy at one of the stores had never even heard of it!

I didn't know that. Never played Rez. Don't even know what Rez is, other than more vague descriptions of "rhythm based shooter".

So in your opinion, the marketing positioning was successful, but was only aimed at Rez fans? Wouldn't "Rez 2" be more appropriate in that case?

The only reason why I knew just a little about it was b/c it was featured prominently on the release schedule for the 360 on joystiq...had I not seen that, I wouldn't know anything about the game.

isnt it obvious that it was too expensive?

What are they thinking selling this at $50? And doing it TWICE. Theres no way the development cost of a 1.5hour game can justify $50.

It can if you think you're only going to sell 35,000 copies... 35,000 x $50 (more specifically, the relatively small proportion the developer actually gets from the $50) is not a huge amount of development time.

(Yes I realise that's a self-fulling prophecy.)

@xxxsam

And this is where knowing their market and basic economics would do them well. They have a very small consumer base willing to buy at $50, but could you imagine what their sales would be at, say $15?

$50 x 35,000 = $1,750,000 straight revenue, but say they could get
$15 x 250,000 = $3,750,000

Just watch. Once this game drops to $20 or below it's sales will rocket.

@gordeaux It plays great with a controller, though it's still well worth experiencing with Kinect and I'd assume Move.

@Ashitaka *criminally overpriced, too.

I picked up the game on sale for $35, but if they had just completely skipped retail and put it out as a $30 Games on Demand title, with a $20 first week price, it would have sold gangbusters.

People know it's a rail shooter (regardless of how amazing it is) and know it's only 3 hours long. Only someone with far too much disposable income would buy it for $50.

Microsoft, you may want to consider that when pricing that retail copy of Gunstringer.

I'll try it if it has move + 3D support. I'm just put off by the random girl who pops up on screen and twirls around. I find that to be a game killer.

I really want to play this, but I cannot justify that price for a 90 minute game no matter how good it is.

I can see why it's sold poorly, it looks like a short and repetitive game with limited replay value.

That been said, it also looks awesome for a single playthrough with a good sound system. I can see this being a big hit at $15, not $50.

I'm excited that the game has finally been dated for PS3 in NA.

Knowing how Ubi game prices drop after a couple of weeks after release, it'll be on sale soon enough.

I played this on Xbox, it's okay, but I really don't understand the reviews with people claiming to tear up over this game (*cough* Joystiq *cough*). I mean seriously? My guess is the vast majority of players won't get $50 of enjoyment out of this, unless it happens to really strike a chord with you. Rent it.

It's a weird sell for sure. It's good, but (IMHO) it's really not worth playing without Kinect, and at the same time it isn't quite worth going out and buying a Kinect just for this.

Also, I really don't mean to sound fanboyish, but I don't see Move delivering the same experience Kinect does.

I think the game is worth the asking price. That, however, is not the same as saying I am willing to pay that price to play the game. I think it would be helpful to separate the idea of a games intrinsic value (based on price) and the idea of how much we are willing to pay for it.

Am I the only person who feels that despite all the hype surrounding this game, that it should have been released as a $20-30 download?

i know that's way above the average price for a PSN/XBL title, but then I'm starting to feel that if there was more leeway in pricing we might have gotten better quality XBL/PSN games.

I really need to stop reading the comments in articles about this game on various websites. I'm going to have a brain aneurysm from listening to people who think video games are supposed to be about cutscenes, grinding and crappy online versus modes.

This game is something special and everyone should at least try it once. I know you think you're clever for parroting back some '90 minutes long' line you read in a review, even though it's completely wrong and I doubt you could even realistically get through normal mode + the sixth mission in twice that much time, let alone hard.

I can beat starfox 64 and any number of railshooters in an hour, hell afterburner climax is like half an hour tops for a single playthrough depending on your route. Clearly I played through those games once and never touched them again for the storyline. Oh wait, I didn't. You wanna know how many times I played through rez over the years? I don't know myself but if I was the kind of twit who measured the amount of fun I got out of a game purely on hours spent, it would still be pretty damn high.

Yes I'm mad. Also, Shadows of the Damned sold even worse than this and it's multiplat, which is just depressing.

@Mupod Great post. These morons who say the game should be $15 are driving me crazy. If the game was $15 it never would have been made, it wouldn't have been profitable. It's the Ubisoft way: Release a game at full price, let the early adopters pay the early adopter tax, then drop the price to a more managable price a few months later. This way everyone gets to enjoy it that wants to and it isn't completely financially stupid for Ubisoft.

If it includes Rez HD on the disc, I'd probably pay full price for it. I'm still a bit sore that that one never made it's way over to the PSN. Mizuguchi is worth supporting.
