Last Gen Splinter Cell > This Gen Splinter Cell

Agreed. The stealth series has been dying very quickly =( and being replaced with Action-oriented games.

Hopefully Splinter Cell: Retribution goes back to its roots...instead of following its "crappy" predecessor, Conviction.

Conviction wasn't that bad. It just wasn't much of a stealth game. I enjoyed it nonetheless, but yes, they should focus more on balancing the action and stealth rather than doing a total 180 like with Conviction.

When people seemingly misuse quotation marks, it's hard to understand what they actually mean. Are you being sarcastic, or do you think Conviction is crappy?

I mean;
It is not a crappy game. It is pretty good (if not compared to the older SCs) It does its action stuff pretty well.

however;
it is a crappy Splinter Cell game.

Like Crysis 2. It is a very good game but its not a good Crysis game.

I think it had a lot to do with the fact that there didn't seem to be one cohesive vision for the game and it was obvious that they'd scrapped one or two versions of the basic mechanics prior to the final release, and then padded out the game itself with some strange choices (i.e. fail-state levels, woefully uneven AI in the co-op sections, that Iraq mission, etc.)

So yes, you're right, it wasn't a bad game, per se, just very uneven. I liked it way better than Double Agent, though.

Yeah I agree i felt that conviction was more like a Jason Bourne Movie rather than just a stealth game that everyone wanted.

Isn't this the same story that's happening with almost all game genres these days? It's always, less of a focus on the elements that made the franchise, and more focus on action, battles, shooting, etc. Again and again. Over and over, until there's only one game genre left.

It's such bullshit. I'm getting so sick and tired of it. I used to be able to buy a sequel to a game I liked and it'd be a pretty safe bet I'd like that one too because it expanded and improved on the series' good points. Now, I have to be very careful and read reviews, because 99% of the times it's all "oh look we put more shooting in! The levels are one-dimensional on-rails shit now and the rpg/stealth/whatever elements are gone, but look, shooting! Combat! You want it! Despite already being saturated with it!"

And those idiot reviewers will go on about how the new shooting/fighting mechanics are so awesome and how it's a great game in its own right and you should just accept it and BULL SHIT.

Sorry. Rant over.

@Iron Man How about a new character to focus on, a whole new story. I love Sam fisher, I have ever since SC 1. But I think it's time to take it in a new direction to reorient towards stealth action and away from the angry run and gun of conviction. Also, I really liked how art house conviction was, but I really don't want all the games to play that way. It was like a punishment, at times. There were whole levels where you would just see black and white bc you were playing stealthy. THATS not fun.

Cannot WAIT to play pandora tomorrow again. I used to relish in the green moss on his shoulder in the first level. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. The first game had the best light play, the second the best color, and the third had the best gameplay. All three are amazing.

funny to see a franchise that grew in the original Xbox turning its back against it. I would love to re-live SC in my 360.

PS3 owners: you'll have one heck of a game.

huh? The Splinter Cell series were released and supported on;

Last-Gen;
Windows PC, Mac OS PC, Playstation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, Gameboy (series), and N-Gage.

This Gen;
Windows PC, Mac OS PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PSP, iOS, Windows Phone 7.

The only game that was console exclusive to Xbox 360 was Conviction because Microsoft payed them off for it.
It was still released for PC (Windows and Mac), and iOS.

and when did I say that it was only supported in Xbox? In fact the main game, the one that spawned the whole thing was released on MS console then ported to other. The franchise grew and then expanded to other consoles.

It was developed on Xbox because that was the easiest to get done first and easier to port over to other machines.

It is much easier to go from Xbox to PC and Xbox to PS2/GC, then any other method.

Yes; Conviction was the worst game of the series.

If you really liked it, then you will be kissing the imaginary boots of this game and telling yourself that this game is the God of all Games.

These three games are last-gen masterpieces and are what Splinter Cell games should be, Stealth-oriented!

That being said, you might not like this game if you are the type that likes to run out and blast shoot everyone. These games really really encourages you to NOT KILL anyone unless you are assigned to. They are also harder to play and require smartful thinking, compared to Conviction.

Conviction wasnt like the usual splinter cell game, so cause he liked conviction doesnt mean he'll like the others.

That is, ultimatley, a hard question to answer

If you enjoyed Conviction because of its relative simplicity, maybe not...but if you liked the overall mechanics and wish that it took a more granular, realistic approach to the tech and techniques of being a covert op, then by all means, go for it!

If you don't like problem solving, lack patience, and/or a trigger-happy gamer; THESE GAMES ARE NOT FOR YOU.

I hope this true. Ive been waiting for this game since early March.

Knowing Ubi, it'll probably be delayed again. There's so much stuff releasing later I won't even care if this does get pushed back. It'll be 1 less game to buy.

W/ all the games I plan on getting and the PS Vita (hopefully) releasing this year as well, this is gonna be a great holiday season for me.

Too bad they didn't release it this summer. It would have had some room to breathe... Now, I'm just doing my second playthrough of inFamous2, waiting for August and Deus Ex before this fall's onslaught of must-have games begins. I enjoyed this series back in the day, but once September hits, fuhgedaboutit!

Good or Evil? I feel like I should play through inFamous 2 again on Hard as Evil...but then I remember that aside from running/jumping/flying/hooking around the city, I didn't really like it that much. Just the thought of having to fight one of those Ice Titans again, let alone 10 or whatever, is what is keeping it on the shelf.

Well, that and the bugs.

It's a DISGRACE that Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory are not getting their respective multiplayer portions. Spies Vs. Mercenaries was one of the most unique and innovative multiplayer experiences of all time. Chaos Theory also had a great co-op multiplayer section that was fun as well. Shame on you Ubisoft!! Shame on you for turning Splinter Cell into another action oriented snooze fest and shame on you for omitting the groundbreaking multiplayer portion of these great games. Splinter Cell HD is a joke.

I've been pretty disappointed with these supposedly HD remakes. God of War collection was... ok. Beyond Good and Evil would have been a waste of money had my PC copy still worked. I bought it on steam one time and I swear it looks better on the old PC port than the "HD remake". Then my save file was corrupted and i just gave up.
Maybe i expect too much.

i have these games on XBOX but i only completed the first 2 and then got the 360 and never played the 3rd. now with this coming out MP or not .. I'll play them all for sure this time.

also if we don't get conviction for PS3 and their is another SC coming out wouldn't we be skipping a story ? I think it's stupid a company release both games on each system then stop a good 4 games down the road and say ok this console will get it not the other. MS money or not they could have just said ok we are releasing it for PS3 a year later that way people like me can still play it ( people say it's bad but I'll still play it ) that would be like Dragon Age Origins 3 coming for PS3 and not Xbox see how stupid that sounds ?
