Oh, I won't. If you like this, go ahead and buy it. But, that doesn't mean a can't share my opinion. (And BTW, I like Call of Duty. I just think they should spend more time on the games so that they can really innovate.)

It wasn't you yourself that bothered me, but this train of thought in general. There were enough "Golden Warfare" in the comments section of the other post about this game, just because it's by Activision does it mean it's CoD? IMO, it sounds like a bunch of people jumping the gun over something they don't know anything about. I think that being published by Activision might be the very reason that will differentiate this game from CoD, I can only assume they're not dumb enough to clone their own game. Well, at least without branding it as such.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, maybe it's just the fond memories from the late 90s, but I think this game can stand own its own merits, having nothing related to CoD other than... well, being an FPS published by Activision...

I like to give games the benefit of the doubt, and I might give this a chance, but from what I've heard, this is just like call of duty. The multiplayer is built like call of duty, and now adding Mi6 Ops? You can't blame people, Activision is practically saying" Hey, you like Call of Duty? Well here you go, Call of Duty, but with James Bond!"

It actually surprises me that this is moving to the HD consoles, because when I saw this on the Wii, I thought it was their own version of CoD. IDK, if there's a demo, I'll try it, but I will not buy this at full price otherwise. Here's to hoping this game brings back the fun that was in the original.

We already played this game on the Wii, and that was very much CoD. I can't imagine why you'd believe this game, on platforms with a larger mainstream FPS fanbase, wouldn't be.

I'd still prefer the GoldenEye HD port that's caught in licensing hell. I wish MS, Nintendo, and Activision would just compromise and let the port on XBLA and have the original on Virtual Console. Then everybody wins.

All the same though, this 'remake' was pretty decent from what I've played of the Wii version. I'm sure a friend will pick this version up and I'll give it a go as well.

I feel the same. The remake was a good game but it didn't feel like Goldeneye on 64 at all. I still remember this screen:

http://mundorare.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/goldeneye-xbla-xbox-world-360-hype.jpg

...that's more along the lines of what I want. The original game at the core with updated graphics. I'm not even opposed to some minor gameplay updates as well. The game is still fun. I just played it two days ago on the N64, but DAYUM it's blurry (playing on an LCD doesn't help that fact either).

I'll probably end up picking this up, though I doubt it'll be at the initial $60 price point. I always meant to pick up the Wii one, but I have a hard time getting excited about first person shooters on that platform. I just don't like the way the controls work; give me my dual joysticks any day of the week.

Have to pass. I bought the Wii version the week it was released and haven't played it for more than an hour or so.

I think, as far as console shooters go, Metroid Prime 3 ruined me. I can't imagine playing an FPS with a traditional controller anymore but I was really disappointed by how poorly the motion control was handled in the Wii Goldeneye.

I could see this being a worthwhile purchase for the PS3/Move, but I'm not buying a console just to to take part in nostalgia.

I actually thought the wiimote FPS control set up in Goldeneye Wii and COD: Black Ops are the best out there. In both games I have the customizable control menus set up perfectly to my liking and ever since I've logged hours in those two games, MP3 controls just feel very limited.

Conduit 1 and 2 also nails the custom control set ups great. Red Steel 2 I still have not found the sweet spot yet as far as my control set up goes.

Wow, I am the opposite. I'm still not a fan of controlling FPS games with the Wiimote. I played through the Goldeneye remake with the dual stick controller it came with and that is probably why I kept playing it as opposed to Metroid Prime 3 that I never finished. Maybe it's my living room arrangement, but I just find the Wiimote aiming awkward for longer than 20 minutes or so. (Not to be confused with tiresome - just that I feel forced in a weird position for an extended period).

I love how almost every interesting third-party exclusive the Wii has HAS to go to the HD consoles in an all-around superior version. And third-parties wonder why their Wii games aren't selling well? People are flat-out EXPECTING them to pull this stunt over and over, and don't want to get burned.

Ah, well. It's a good game, and it's great that more people are getting to play it (in 60FPS, too, nice). People should buy it and enjoy it. I'm just upset that I'm the one who got burned. I don't intend to double-dip, even if I do own a PS3.

I know I certainly was. In fact, with the revised HoTD OVERKILL set for PS3 this year, I'm left hoping MADWORLD also follows suit either by itself or as a pre-order add-on for ANARCHY REIGNS.

They should just include a 15 minute demo for Madworld instead of bothering to remake the whole game. You could just play it over and over and you'd get the same effect as if you played the entire thing.

I think the most ironic part about your rant is that this is exactly what will be happening in reverse when Wii U drops, at least for the first few years. Expect all sorts of "upgraded" dual screen versions of PS360 games from 3rd parties.

3rd party developer: "Wii U is so awesome and innovative!!"
*Queue up ported PS360 title with menu options placed on controller touchscreen*
"Brilliant!"

Wait, so you contend that the reason that 3rd party Wii games don't sell is because people are just assuming they'll be re-making a better version on the other consoles later on?

Sorry, but that's nuts.

For starters, 99% of consumers aren't going to think that far ahead. Of the 1% left over, half of them would rather just have the game right away than wait a year for an updated version.

I mean, think about it. Every big 3rd party 360/PS3 game is going to have a superior "Game of the Year" edition released. Every Street Fighter game is going to have a superior "uber remix turbo" edition. Everyone knows this, yet the originals still sell. If what you're saying is true, then every Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty would sell like crap because everyone was just waiting for the "superior version".

Had any of those Wii games released with a guarantee that the game would never be re-made on the 360/PS3 then it wouldn't have changed their sales numbers in any noticeable way.

I concede it'd be nuts to say it's the only reason, but you'd be similarly nuts to think it's not a factor.

Your counterexamples are of the same game being rereleased on the same console, which is irrelevant to the point I was making. I mean, in this day and age, most of the features the GotY editions include are just previously-released DLC packaged into the retail release, so even people who owned the original version can have even parity.

However, the same game being released on a separate console entirely is a much bigger deal. It makes it much more difficult to justify buying a given console when it doesn't have as many exclusives. This isn't just the Wii's problem - I'm having a fairly hard time justifying my PS3 purchase from last year because almost all the games I'd have bought for it, I'd already owned on the 360 or PC, and if a good PC version is available, I'd typically opt for that first (better frame rate, better resolution, better control scheme for FPS titles, Steam sales, etc). Nevertheless, the Wii has it especially bad; it may have first-party games going for it, but slipshod third-party support is easily the strongest argument against it at this point. It already is missing out on several amazing titles due to its weaker hardware making ports impossible, but it seems like whenever an interesting title comes its way, people complain about it coming only to the Wii to no end, until the title is on the HD consoles, too. Nobody's going to buy the Wii version when an HD version is out at the same time, right? Same reason I buy PC versions of games - better resolution, sometimes better framerate, etc.

This sort of thing only serves to make the third-party situation stagnate further. Nobody buys third-party on Wii because third-parties aren't bothering; no third-party bothers with Wii because nobody's buying - vicious cycle. I HATE cycles like that, even if they're a part of life.

I openly admit I'm being an unabashed fanboy of Nintendo here. It's not that I don't want to see PS3 or 360 do well - I do, since I genuinely like both Sony and Microsoft - but I want to see Nintendo do relatively well, too, and it just seems that, despite them doing ASTOUNDINGLY well financially, they're somehow not doing well in this market otherwise. Even the 3DS seems to be having issues, with a slower-than-anticipated adoption rate, and third-parties holding off more interesting releases because they think their currently-released games aren't selling well (despite a significant selection of the games in question being, to put it mildly, cheap cash-ins that wouldn't have sold well anywhere else anyway).

It's somewhat ironic that despite Nintendo doing better than ever financially, it honestly feels like the worst time to be a Nintendo fan. It's really frustrating.

It's great news, but its timing couldn't be worse for me personally due to all the other games set for that point of the year. Add in the release of the PS VITA and well... they'll really have to add a big hook to warrant a $60(?)retail purchase at release.
I'll have to rent or buy it in the spring or something.

My thoughts exactly. They saw dollar signs on the Wii and ignored the complaints of everyone with the HD consoles and realized too late that they weren't going to move the units they thought they would. Unfortunately, it's probably going to be too-little-too-late at this point and this isn't going to sell that well on the current-gen systems either. I know I'm not going to buy it out of principle, just like I didn't with the $50 version of NBA Jam, even though I was a huge fan of both franchises back in the day.
