I don't think a lot of fans gave a piss what ultimately wound up in the game, as long as they ultimately wound up *with* the game.

This.
I didn't even look at the devroom. It felt like it was just marketing, and I didn't care. I've got other games I'm playing at the moment, and I felt I didn't have amazing ideas to contribute to the game. Figured I'd let other people handle it.

This wasn't going to be an online game, as far as I knew. Why would I bother to communicate with other people about it? I've got MMOs for that. What other single player game requires online participation (on a platform different than the one it was going to release on, even) just to be able to PLAY it?

I would have bought it day one, were it actually released. This seems like a really silly way to gauge interest. Maybe even just another excuse from Capcom. Why not shift blame to the consumer? Oh, right... because we were told the prototype was how they were going to gauge interest. Not some devroom most people (well, at least I didn't) care about. Oops.

I was in the Devroom since day one, and I actually enjoyed it. Participated in a few of the events though I never won anything in them, but it was still definitely an interesting experience.
So I wouldn't say it was a waste. In fact, several people are more than a little angry BECAUSE they had become invested in its development through the Devroom.

I know they had a community, and I didn't mean to imply that it was a waste. I just doubt that it represented most of the people who would have bought this game. I know several people who were waiting for the release of this game who didn't even know about the devroom - one of them doesn't even have a PC.

Yea, I had no desire to go to the Devroom because I wanted to play a game and not know about the characters, storyline, etc. I thought it was Lazy on Capcom's part...

Please! All fans of megaman join the support page! We need to show Capcom there was and still is an audience! (sorry I piggybacked the top post to get more attention..)

I'm not sure what upsets me more....

The fact that capcom is apparently attempting to murder a franchise that I love and would print them money, or that the fans of said franchise are essentially groveling to a company that has spit in their collective faces.

I want MML3 as much as the next MML fan but I am not going to beg for it. That said odds are I will probably still begrudgingly buy it if they release it.

An interesting aside to all this, during Comic Con. Apparently Capcom was more than a little adamant ensuring NOTHING Megaman related came anywhere close to their booth.

Agreed.
This is an effin' lame ass excuse to drop efforts on a tried & true IP. I'm just waiting for the "In these tough economic times, it's difficult to determine which products to proceed with"-style excuse to finish off my Montreal---err, CAPCOM SCREWJOB Bingo board.

I was planning on submitting an entry for a boss in the contest. But then I remembered this was 'Megaman hatin' Capcorn.

So I went and played Shin Megami instead. Capcorn may refuse to publish Megaman, but I bet they would sue faster than Strider if another company released a similar game.

Go play the 10+ (8 if you only count the 8 bit installments) classic series Mega Man games instead of crying for Capcom to release more rehashes of that aged and milked formula.

@Keadin What? How is this Nintendo's fault? The fault lies squarely with Capcom and whatever bizarre logic they came up with that determined a lack of people signing up to provide input on their game meant that no one actually wanted said game. Nintendo had absolutely nothing to do with this, at least as far as any press coverage has revealed.

I feel terrible. I'm a major Legends fan, it was a large part of my childhood (as sad as that may sound to someone), and I didn't really participate in the devroom. I feel kind of guilty.

But then again, Im no artist or anything either. They always asked for artwork for ideas like the boss reaver bot. I just voted and posted here and there.

They didn't cancel it because of a lack of devroom participation. They cancelled it because everyone in the game industry is shifting all their development resources into making more CoD/Gears clones and fremium facebook/iOS microtransaction hedge mazes.

Yes, and in a few weeks a Capcorn rep will state the reason for not releasing AAI2 in the US as "fans did not translate the game fast enough which showed a lack of interest, not that we save money on hiring a localizer"
