Beyond the trickle of post-launch downloadable content for Marvel vs Capcom 3, Capcom offered little in way of support for the long-awaited Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 fighter. And according to producer Ryota Niitsuma, that was out of his team's hands. "After the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 there were plans to release DLC. But, as you know, less than a month after the game was released we had the earthquake and tsunami in Japan," he claimed in a San Diego Comic Con interview.
According to Niitsuma, the disastrous events that occurred in Japan not long after the release of MvC3 "threw off our whole development schedule." Eventually, a decision was made to release that content on a disc, along with tweaks to the gameplay, a new spectator mode, and other new playable content. Niitsuma characterized the content as "about half and half" between the originally planned DLC and newly developed content for UMvC3.
Speaking to the subsequent leak of the entire roster for the upcoming Marvel vs Capcom title, Niitsuma reluctantly accepted the situation. "It's a shame it got out, but that list, those names -- those are the characters we are adding to the game. But this is only a list of characters," he noted. "I think for the fans of our fighting games, that's where the real fun is -- seeing those characters move and act." As for when we'll see that? "Closer to the release date," he said. Unless it leaks out earlier, of course.

My verdict with CAPCOM still remains the same... "That's all I can stand, I can't stand no more!"
The only product I plan to buy in the future with their namesake is TEKKEN X STREET FIGHTER. I can actually *trust* NAMCO with a purchased item not to be rendered obsolete less than year more than I ever would CAPCOM now.
CAPCOM PR, if you should stumble upon any of these MEGA MAN LEGENDS3, UMvC3, or even that CAPCOM booth banishing rumors going around... you *really* need to do some damage control here and offer some alternative purchase solutions:
- If MML3's release is tied up in licensing legalities, come out and effin' say it instead of blaming the supposed "lack of fan support"(utter shaite and you know it).
- If the earthquakes really took that much of a toll on productivity, profits, and development; hold off on releasing UMvC3 and give us a completely new release worth paying $40 for (i.e., a much larger addition of features and roster additions). MvC2 and even TvC didn't need a revision like this... take your damn time and put out a product worth a damn so you don't need to come out with so many disc based revisions!
- If selling games used dips into your profits, then start packaging an online pass/key code leaflet with your games! It's "douche baggins" to many, but I'd rather that over the crap spewed over RE on 3DS.

Is this going to include Jill and that other guy who were DLC? If so, then I might just get this. I'm so glad I held off on buying MvC3 because I just knew that Capcom was going to pull something like this. The question is, will there be a third release following this one? An arcade edition perhaps?

@FinalFantasyXIIIsucks You do realize that if you buy this you are only supporting their tactics. Even if you waited, this will only tell them that people are willing to pay full price a 2nd time for a game that was already completed where they only added minor tweeks.

@FinalFantasyXIIIsucks you know capcom. They're not satisfied until the title of the game is at least 15 words long. We're going to get up to Super Ultra Mega Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds Turbo Arcade Edition Remix AT LEAST. And they better have some iteration of Mega Man before the word Mega gets put in the title.

I'm incredibly excited for this, but I am very upset that there's no option to just buy the upgrade. I'd be willing to pay $20-25 for 12 new characters and tons of gameplay balances, but forcing those of us who bought the original to buy an entirely new game if we want to upgrade is pretty greedy of Capcom.
Probably out of the developers' hands, though.

My sympathy goes out to them over the disaster, but maybe a little TRANSPARENCY would have been nice? At least saying "Everything was disrupted and we're reevaluating our DLC plans" would be better than total radio silence followed by "Give us $40."

Bro, no shit. He's using the Earthquake as an excuse, because lets face it, not many people will question him after he drops the ole "well we had an earthquake" so we're going to release a new version of the game on disc and screw over the existing users.
Capcom is sucking lately, between this, canceling MML3(blaming fans), the RE Mercs save debacle and countless re-releases(SF4, Dead Rising) and Infuane bailing last year. Capcom can honestly suck a dick and I will buy there games used from now on, so they don't get a penny from me.

I'm sorry, but his statement about how the earthquake effecting something going from DLC to Disc simply doesn't compute to me. If anything, I would have thought it would be EASIER to make it DLC simply because the factories which mass produce the boxes, discs, and all that jazz would be the ones with problems. The internet wasn't effected by the earthquake...
Posted: Jul 22nd 2011 2:51PM Biotite said
@Slixshot I dunno if you heard, but most if not ALL companies were effected in crazy ways. The music industry had albums postponed. Sure, one could say "just release them digitally" instead of postponing but the earthquake shook up the entire country. And instead of focusing on those projects a lot of companies had to rethink things, cause frankly it would be rude to still expect people to buy things during the midst of a disaster. During 9/11 a lot of things were postponed. Disasters do that.

Yeah, I can see the earthquake being to blame for DELAYs in the DLC schedule & releases, but not being to blame for the decision to put it all on a disk. I think the true translation here is:
"The earthquake pushed back all the DLC that we originally planned on getting out prior to the scheduled Re-Release of 'Ultimate'. Once we were able to get back on track with putting the original DLC together, we were already so close to the internal date to start work on 'Ultimate', that we had to go ahead and package all the DLC with Ultimate instead of putting it out first."

March?...July? thats 4 months? are you telling me Capcorn can finish an entire itteration in 4 months? So if UMvC3 sells well in November (Approval & stamping & printing from Aug to Oct) we can expect SUMvC3.5AE around February?

The ultimate edition does have those two characters. The previous UMvC3 leak post reveals a video showing them.
What it doesn't have, or rather - its creator, is the common sense to release it at least a year later. Thus taking into account the tactics and cheapness that would be revealed at major tournaments and online gameplay. Maybe even a MvC2 sized roster. Better music. New features. Character Edits. A tower mode, and so on.

The thing that ultimately pissed me off about DLC with MvC3 was that the only characters who were "DLC" were literally on the disc already, all you download is the unlock key. I was fine with the costumes, that's what Capcom does (though it weird that Dante's alternate costume is now a character I think). I bought the special edition so it didn't matter, but its lame to charge anyone for stuff thats completely on the disc (though Capcom did the same thing with the multiplayer mode in RE5).
