According to Niitsuma, the disastrous events that occurred in Japan not long after the release of MvC3 "threw off our whole development schedule." Eventually, a decision was made to release that content on a disc, along with tweaks to the gameplay, a new spectator mode, and other new playable content,

@adr916 all of these store exclusive preorder bonuses, a dozen characters, gameplay changes, additional modes, and even hud changes to me seems like it was planned so that capcom could "redeem" themselves and maximize profits for the barebones mvc 3 they released as apposed to the reason they gave which was the tragic earthquake.

In light of recent events, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that these pre-order costumes used to be DLC for the original MvC3, and there's certainly nothing stopping them from releasing them as such. But nope, we'll probably have to buy the "new" game if we want them.

@DMY thats my irritation as well. i liked that SSF4 AE was available as a DLC to those of us who purchased SSF4. Nothing is stopping them from doing a DLC now(could space out 2 nice big DLC and make their monies). for some reason they HAVE to do it all on a disc which i am sure alot of the ticked off people will pass on. I guess they feel they are doing US a favor by putting this all on one disc but the suckers(me) purchased MvC3 5 months ago it is way too soon to expect us to throw down our cash. new content is good and expected in a franchise, but FFS its only been 5 months!

@tanooki equipped Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is the same as Super Street Fighter 4. It's a new version that wasn't available as DLC. You can't give them props for getting it right in regards to the Super Street Fighter arcade content if you're upset about Ultimate MvC3. It's the same thing. Maybe there will be a 3rd version that will be downloadable if you have UMMC3, but it still won't help the people who bought the original game.

And about 50% of the retro costumes are free. MKII Kitana, Jade and Smoke, MKIII Sektor Cyrax and Noob.

Capcom has always been like this just look at how many different versions of Street Fighter II was released.

DLC content is there if you want it and you don't have to download it if you don't want to pay for it.

Could easily give us MvC3 owners DLC for say $15 to upgrade our versions to the Ultimate Edition rather than spend $40 when we spend $60.

Wait, people are seriously complain about this? You do know given their current pricing structure of DLC characters being $5 each that releasing all the characters as DLC would total $60... A retail release at $40 is saving you $20, and that is just on characters alone, not counting alt costumes and replay mode...

@Soroks it doesnt matter how you break it down, the game released 5 months ago it is very unreasonable for Capcom to expect fans to throw down again on another disc. DLC (at least 2 spaced out) would have been much more acceptable and they would still get their money.

@(Unverified) No, it's not. $60 + $60 = $120. $60 + $40 = $100

It's easy! Plus, the stages and other stuff would've been sold too, at price of maybe 2 for $5? I dunno.

So instead of paying $60 for a game that should have had all these "extras" in its original release, I now have the option to spend an additional $40 bringing on a grand total of $100 for what is essentially, the same game but with more "umpf".

Wow, you're right, thank you Capcom for the bargain price and saving me $20!!!

Do you NOT see the ridiculous strategy Capcom has embraced?

@Captain Planet Planeteer Power

I personally have gotten way more than the $70 of enjoyment that I gave Capcom for the game, and I am willing to pay another $40 for more. I am okay with $110 because I value that $110 spent. Am I pissed that didn't all come on one disc in one retail release? Yes I am. But am I pissed that I got to play the game this year instead of waiting another year for Capcom to package it all together? Not really. Do I feel cheated? Not at all. The value is what each individual customer wants.

I have gotten my $70 of enjoyment, now I am going to get $40 worth of enjoyment out of Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom. Just because you purchased the first game doesn't mean you HAVE to buy the second game. What you decide to purchase is totally up to you. I for one am excited for 12 new characters, a spectator mode and the new costumes.

I can put a price on a game, but I can't put a price on staying up for hours on end yelling at my friends because of those "Oh man that was so awesome!" or the "I should have had you!!" moments. That is where I see my $110 going to. And based on those moments and those experiences, I have already gotten way more than my $110 dollars worth with the 'half finished' version you are all complaining about.

Wow!! Just Wow!!

So you think that the half finished game is worth $60?
How much do you pay for the garlic bread?

You have two schools here:
- The Capcorn school where they punish fans who dare buy the first (sometimes second) itteration by releasing a better improved version for less than the price of the original.
- The Apple school where they reward fans by releasing a game/app at a discount, and you get free updates throughout. I get so many update messages with sometimes huge additions for free it makes me browse the developers list to buy more games. for 99c-$5 games

I see only one way out for Capcorn here: promise early fans a free update or risk losing sales. Some stores do not accept Capcorn fighting games for trades anymore

@Soroks - And YOU and every other Capcom fanboy/girl ARE the REASON they keep doing this. Idiots like you that are willing to give them money for every release they make no matter how short of time its released in...

The main thing people are upset is that MvC3 hasn't even been out a year yet! This is just outrageous what Capcom is doing, and once other companies start seeing the fanboys like you throwing away money for a more complete version that SHOULD have been released as a DLC pack, they're going to go and do the same exact thing as well...

I don't care what Capcom throws in as a "bonus" for pre-ordering because I am NOT going to give them anymore of my money. Screw them and their greed. Plus half the characters the announced or should I say "leaked" SUCK anyways and if they were released individually then I would have gotten the ones I wanted and not the other crappy ones. I have seen/heard the same thing concerning a lot of the characters (mainly the Capcom added ones) that people just do not like or care for and wouldn't have gotten and that's why to I'm sure they decided to release a whole new disc version because they knew there would have been a lot of people that wouldn't have purchased all the characters and only just some of them...

@xxZOMBIExx So do you get mad when Ford or Chevy release updates of their cars with new features not in the previous year's model? You don't cry that the cars are incomplete do you? Or when computer companies build newer machines to the previous model, in some cases just months after that one model was released? None of these projects are half completed. They are done as of the date of release, but things evolve, things change. It's life baby and if you can't accept that there's always a second generation of something right around the corner, then I have some sad news for ya.

See I don't think Marvel VS Capcom 3 is a half finished game. I think what is on the disc is a full fleshed out game. It has a sizable roster, an awesome final boss and the same "just one more match' mentality for versus mode that made its predecessors the beasts they are now.

I also feel like I need to stress that an announcement of UMvC3 is not a release. Announced 5 months later and released 5 months are two drastically different beasts. Last I checked the release date is in November, 9/10 months after MvC3's release. Considering the gap between MvC2 and MvC3 was 11 years, I am okay with 10 months.

that's a total of $120 dollars for a complete MvC3 experience over a course of 3 months.

and Super Street fighter IV Arcade Edition is a lame $15 for the patch you always wanted and 4 Characters you didn't want, a yin-yang Clone of gen and Fei Long, a Akuma Clone and a Gouken clone.

Dead Rising 2 COD edition is the same game with slightly new features and a recyled character from Dead Rising 1.

What do all these have in common?
ALL of the Games can be updated and given REAL DLC (none of that locked crap that is already on the disc) to ultimately make these games, and at reasonable prices, they can make MORE money and KEEP the fans that now HATE them

The sad thing is I used to think Capcom was SO AWESOME. They released some really great stuff, but post-2008 they've REALLY started to show us how much they suck.

Shutting down Clover and losing the staff to other companies...

Hyping up SFIV, then releasing a far superior version, then releasing a version that isn't much of an improvement...

Locking features on the RE5 disc then releasing a special version with more content...

Rereleasing Dead Rising 2 with what is basically Frank West reskinned over Chuck...

Cancelling several Mega Man titles...

Rushing MvC3 out the door early, then revealing that THIS was the game they planned all along...

Making Dante look like a scrawny emo git in the DMC reboot and handing it to a developer that is still mostly untested...

Milking nostalgia fans for $8 extra with the MM9/10 DLC...

Jesus, if I keep going I'll be here all night.

I feel like ranting, so I'll continue!

The whole "need to be online to play" DRM B.S.

Unable to rewrite saves in RE:M

The outsourcing of Dead Rising to a Western developer.

The outsourcing of Resident Evil to a Western developer

The complete disregard of their other popular IP's (Power Stone, Viewtiful Joe, Darkstalkers, etc..)

(Not just a Capcom thing) The mindset of western-style games as being the thing that most people want.

Not deciding to release Monster Hunter Portable 3rd in the US (I guess that one's understandable though. AFAIK, the MH series hasn't done too well over here.)

Not only the cancellation of MML3 but also the fact that they were gonna charge for the "prototype"

(More of a personal problem) The fact that they announced Monster Hunter 3 on the PS3(the only system I own) Then pretty much say, "And now that the Wii is selling like crazy, MH3 is now going to be on the Wii along with the PS3!" Next update, "K actually just the Wii"
*my reaction* F YOU CAPCOM

There are probably others, but it seems like Atlus is the only company still making games that are still totally and utterly Japanese. And for that reason, they are my favorite Japanese company right now :P
