NetherRealm considered Michael Myers, Jason as Mortal Kombat DLC

Mortal Kombat's newest kombatant certainly came as a surprise to the seasoned MK vets here at Joystiq; we were expecting Tanya, or maybe even Meat, but Krueger? Dude wasn't even on our radar, let alone our fantasy character selection screens. As out-of-left-field as his inclusion seems to us, series co-founder Ed Boon says that slasher villains have always been on the table as potential new characters.

"Over the years, we've certainly had a number of conversations about guest characters," said Boon during an interview with PlayStation Blog. "A number of names were run by us: Jason, Michael Meyers [sic] and all those guys. Freddy Kreuger, we felt, was the most instantly recognizable and he fits in with Mortal Kombat with his claws." We think they made the right choice; why would anyone put the guy from So I Married An Axe Murderer in a Mortal Kombat game?

No, they were going to put Austin Powers in the game. Alternate DLC Skins as Shrek and Wayne Campbell. 800ms points.

I am glad Tanya wasn't in it nor Shinnok because those 2 are better suited for the next game. I was kind of hoping for C/Khameleon but not too sure on Freddy though. His bio is kind of funny because Shao Kahn beats him up in the dream realm, pulls Freddy out of the dream and beats him up some more.

Meh to the lot.

Although it's kind of neat, I don't understand why they had to go with the "new" Freddy instead of the classic one. And the other thing I REALLY don't get is why is Freddy wearing two gloves???

Could be because of the swap of which side the character is fighting on? Like how Guile from Street Fighter has 2 USA flag tattoo. One on each of his arm.

They went with the new Freddy because WB forced them, everybody at NR wanted to do the old Freddy, but WB spent a lot of money trying to re-brand Freddy with the new movie, they want to stay consistant and not go back to the old one. 2. Freddy had to have 2 claws to make the fighting system work, all characters in MK have symmetrical moves, so when they swap stance, all the moves are the same. Freddy couldn't be asymmetrical. If his back hand had the glove and hitting X would do a claw swipe, after swapping stances the back hand would be empty and then X couldn't do the same move because it wouldn't make sense (and the animation wouldnt line up).

Well…that’s a good question. We didn’t try to make him look like the actor Robert Englund, I don’t even know if we would be allowed to….Admittedly, I didn’t see the latest movie, the remake. But obviously the first few movies were huge — they left an undeniable mark on pop culture. When I look at him, I think of the original Freddy: he’s got the striped sweater and is instantly recognizable. He’s Freddy in general, we don’t really identify him as one version or another.

And for the game story-wise, Freddy attacked Shao Khan because Khan was killing humans, which Freddy felt was an insult to him because they're HIS humans to kill. But Shao Khan beat Freddy in this first battle, so Freddy got a second glove and now is planning his revenge on Shao Khan.

Laughable choices across the board.

Pinhead > Krueger, Jason, Myers, all others.

I would've gone with Pumpkin head.

I think the inclusion of someone like Freddy (and potentially the other slasher villains) is kind of interesting. They occupied such a terrifying corner of my adolescence, and are such unstoppable forces in their respective realms. Pitting them against, say, a 10 foot giant with four arms or Shao Kahn and his repertoire of brutal unblockable moves is pretty gratifying.

And Freddy isn't a nearly as terrifying as a man who pulls his face flesh off to reveal a horrible fire-breathing murder skull.

i would have went with other video game characters. then Movie Characters.

Don't remember if it was here or not, but I guessed, Jason and Myers would be next. Seemed only logical when considering the insanity of NetherRealm. Insane in a good way!

Doesn't mean they won't make it in later. People keep assuming this is the last DLC, I think they might just be taking a little break.

@Exu That's because the devs only announced four pieces of DLC. There were four empty spaces for DLC on the game's webpage, the season pass entitles you to "all 4 DLC characters" and so on.

Waiting on the inevitable Hello Kitty DLC.

Jason's movies have a lot of MK-ready fatalities, like Manhattan's punching off the head, or the early one where he snaps a sheriff backwards.

I would pay for sure for pinhead-his moves be chains shoot out of the walls and rip the fighters skin off!!!! The creeper from jeepers creepers!!!-all kinds of moves you could give him!!! Hey , how bout :"The darkness" from legend!!!
also, i was hoping for the zombie guy with the club arm and the one eyed creature think his name was maldock?? from mk...also a zombie character never hurts!! :) I have to say i love the new mk!!!! i traded in mvsc3 for it also! n im glad i did!

why have they never invented a sand ninja???? that would be awesome! -also add the demon girl with the eye patch from mk!

I wish they would add an exclusive DLC character for the Xbox 360 version to make up for Kratos being added into the PS3 version while the 360 version just got a level.

I still say Emile-A239 from Halo Reach would make a great MK character as a 260 exclusive.

Keep whining about it. Fact of the matter is, 360 doesn't have an exclusive character that COULD fit into the MK universe. Especially no one from Halo. Best you've got is Fenix and even then that's a stretch. Don't get me wrong, even I tried to think of a character for the 360 version and best I could come up with was Baldr from Too Human.

@Irvine032188 And even if they fit, they still need the copyright holders to agree to putting their character in an MK game. Which, even despite this version's success, might seem a bit unclassy for some publishers

I'd also like to see a bad-breath-roar their face off.

They should just bring out a fighting game will the iconic horror people!

I would buy that!
