If it is a race across America, wouldn't it be 2,000 miles instead of 200?

@MEGATOOL
It's the in-game track amount, which means the player will only race sections of the interstate highways, not the entire length.

Though now, I'm craving a Cannonball Run or Wacky Races game, haha.

@foxhound Cannon Ball Run is exactly what I thought of when I saw the description. That would be a really cool game.

@foxhound

I'm up for that.

Somebody should make a coast to coast racing game with no "chunks of circuit" but rather you can race as long or as little as you want each time you play. If you want to play the whole thing in one sit (good luck with that) you could, or you can just stop and save your game at rest stops along the road. The goal is to get first to the other coast no matter what happens in between.

I'd be up for such a game.

I-10 or I-80 would be a pretty crazy race. Granted, it would be via sections(the 200 miles of in game track aforementioned in article)and probably boringly filled with highway hypnosis-rendering sights.

Just wanted to get this personal opinion off my chest: QTE are the devil's spawn and as such, should be killed with fire. Repeatedly.

Can anyone name a game where they've actually worked?

Yea... What they all said. QTE's are an interesting beast. When done right (GOW and most of Heavy Rain for example), they can really make a cut scene feel like it's under your control. But when done the wrong way (Single button mashing QTE's with a big icon in the middle of the screen, like Lost Planet), they're just pretty distracting. I like QTE's because they keep you focused during what is essentially a cut scene, and it gives you the impression that you've just done what happened (which the gameplay normally wouldn't have any options for you to do ANYTHING like it).

GOW did it a lot, and I was really impressed with some of them. The hack n slash was great in that game, but obviously it would have been extremely difficult to create some way to allow the player to jump on top of a character and start ripping their eye out. But with a QTE, you can turn a cut scene into an interactive moment, which just helps to make you feel like you actually ARE ripping somethings eye out.

@liquidsoap89 You like QTEs because they put you in control of cinematic moments ...

I hate QTEs because they simplify, and take away control of gameplay. How much more incredible would so many action-heavy games with QTEs be if they gave you direct control over the action? I know a lot of people hated Mirror's Edge's controls for being overly complex, but I loved how it assigned every action an intuitive button ... it's entirely possible to control complex actions that are, today, taken out of your hands save for a prompted input. Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy are the exceptions, being that they are ultimately the evolution of the graphic-adventure game and area already presented as interactive stories.

Then again, perhaps they are a necessary evil because we in fact aren't capable of putting a player in control of such complex animations without having it all scripted. In that case, the next generation can't come soon enough.

Yeah, the Autolog feature is really cool. That feature Hot Pursuit really enjoying. There's also app for it (Autolog) for the iPhone/iPod Touch.

This game does look good and different. Can't wait to try it out.

Still, I really hope that Black Box or EA decides to come out with a NFS Underground 3. It would be amazing.

One of my favorite race games of all time is The Great American Cross Country Road Race (Activision, 1985). This looks like the closest I'm going to get to a proper remake or sequel. Can't wait.

This game is starting to gain my interest more and more, I'm really impressed with the recent NFS's released. The only problem I'm having is how Autolog is such a big part of these games coming out, and how it has NO effect on me. Almost nobody I know has a PS3, and the ones that do would never buy a game like this, so these features (as interesting as they look) just go unnoticed to me.

Sigh... I swear it's that damn COD curse that keeps people from playing multiple genres.

I want to be interested in this, I love road racing... but the physics look like it would be un-playable with a wheel, and QTE? seriously? that's WORSE than an un-skippable cut scene... a LOT worse... and it's a racing game... wtf were they thinking? I love games that mix genres but that's like gluing macaroni to the mona lisa... there's no possible way that can be a good thing even if you love macaroni art AND you love the classics...

Oh, if only 10% of the game is going to be awful pointless filler, then I'm sold!

Seriously. When is someone going to realize that the Need for Speed franchise has no need for story? It's a racing game. Let us race. We don't need to be racing through the thoughtless tale of some generic video game protagonist.

A pretense for the racing is fine, but the "characters" have never done anything but detract from this franchise's quality.

The Run - the pass. For all I can see, it looks like a glorified Hot Pursuit. And as fun as that game is in multiplayer, I totally hate the driving model behind it, this "no brakes coasting" crap. And considering that the release coincides with Skyrim's and Dark Souls', I think this game will fail horribly.

I think Hot Pursuit is amazing, but I wished there were some jumps, or at least the ability to get airborne. The Run looks to have just that!

If they could tone down the rubber-banding AI, that would great as well.
