@Faenix

Guerrilla was a fun open world destruction simulator. It was very entertaining to drive a car into a wall, jump out and blow said building to the ground.

I played the demo for Armageddon...I didn't really have much fun running through a linear cavern or using a mech in tight spaces. It was just meh.

@Nytemare

Guerrilla was okay, not the greatest. I prefer my games to have a story.
Armageddon was total meh.

I would LOVE it if they went back to FPS. I know, this gen has so many.. but the earlier Red Faction titles were tons better then the later ones.

@Dickhole Pasta
One of the best moments I've ever had gaming was when I realized I could put C4 on my car.
And then said car off a bridge into the skylight of an office building after having jumped out with my jet pack.
Upon landing, standing there for just a sweet moment as I watched the civilians run in fear and the army run to check things out.
And then....
BOOOOOM!
Building exploads and takes the whole building, 2 buildings near by and about 50 MP's with it.
I couldn't stop laughing... even when I started running into town to kill the survivors with a "living flighless bird" of death.

I'm not sure how that wasn't fun.

Yeah, i'd have to second that. I was disappointed as well. If they brought the First person perspective back, being indoors and all this time, I think it would have done better.

I enjoyed Red Faction Guerilla, and was really looking forward to Armageddon. I'm not sure why, but it just didn't feel as fun. I think being underground might have been the problem.

Methinks Farrell is severely overestimating their fall lineup.

Red Ffaction failed because it didn't continue where guerrilla left off in terms of game play. Volition studio could of improve the game just like they did with saint row, but i guess the red faction franchise is dead now since it failed to meet expectation.

I absolutely loved Guerrilla and it's sort of GTA style gameplay where it was a huge open ended world where pretty much anything could be destroyed, it was a blast, but Armageddon was just a complete opposite of that, it was a forced linear game with some really great weapons and that's about all. There were no huge scale bridges or giant university looking buildings that you could take any approach at entering or destroying, just cave walls, and more cave walls. I definitely think the setting would have worked better as a first person shooter rather than third person.

i liked armageddon a lot, the only thing i didnt like about guerrilla was all that stupid driving (although driving those big trucks was fun). Since they removed that, i felt the game was great.
The nano forge powers seemed really similar too starkiller's though.

Guerrilla was outrageously fun (and some frustrating mission bits) just running around and destroying everything. It was definitely the best Red Faction game made by a long shot.

So hey, let's just make the sequel a boring linear tunnel shooter.

as soon as they took out the open word my interest went away, i loved Guerilla but this one was like a step backwards...

i never seen a sequel that offers less then the original game

I think they crapped the bed with this one. They had a moderate success with the hammer physics sandbox that was Guerrilla. Then they make an essentially corridor third person shooter and wonder why it didn't sell?

Red Faction 1 was incredible.

Red Faction 2 was mediocre.

Red Faction Guerrilla was great.

Red Faction Armageddon was mediocre.

So the next one should be at least good, right? Oh wait, there isn't going to be a next one. Ah, THQ is going up in flames with this, Homeland, etc. Doesn't THQ know how to run a business or something? All of their IP's have good ambition, yet they let the developers fail at delivering on the ambition. Who thought it was a good idea to have structures crumbling beneath your feet?

That sucks, I really enjoyed REA, perhaps even more than RFG.

All REA needed was refined open world stuff (ala Crysis)
Focused, yet still feels huge. The open world stuff in RFG was the worst part about it.

I seriously stopped playing the demo for this game as soon as I heard the main protagonist's voice. After that, I knew it was going to blow chunks.

Really THQ? You are surprised that your multi-platform UFC Trainer was a flop? Perhaps it had to do with the fact that although it's multi-platform you have still, even post release failed to show one trailer on the Playstation Platform. From what I hear about the Kinect version, I am surprised the UFC even green lit it's release.

Sadly I do have to agree. Red Faction 1 & 2 were awesome on the PS2. It was the first time walls could be destroyed and anything could be used. But Guerrilla made me confused.

No story except a guy who strong opposes anarchy suddenly turns to the worlds largest anarchist because his anarchist brother got killed for being a rebel. It was just kind of counter-productive in a story line. I had no incentive to destroy buildings or anything. The story didn't pull me in and Armageddon simply didn't have the same appeal due to Guerrilla's performance.

I hate to hear a good franchise is disappearing because of a few botched tries.

Putting things back together is not nearly as fun as taking things apart. THAT'S why I didn't even bother playing Armageddon.

They did the same thing with Armageddon that they did with 2. They took everything that made the first great and trashed it.

I remember in the original you could literally dig tunnels into places. It was best thing I had ever experienced. So 2 comes out and they go "HERP, the first game was awesome...let's get rid of the ability to dig anywhere and make it to where you can only blow up certain spots."

Now Red Faction: Guerilla does well...has a awesome open world environment with lots of stuff to do plus to add icing to the cake it has a pretty decent multiplayer. So what do they do with the sequel? "DERP, the first game was awesome so, let's get rid of the open world AND the multiplayer and sell it like this." BRILLIANT!

Personally I can't wait until the 5th game. Not looking forward to the 6th though...

Red Faction was at it's best when it was a sandbox terrorism simulator.
Too bad they turned it into a hum drum shooter.

thats what they get if they take out the best thing in the game. and thats decent multiplayer like 1st one. but they went down the coop v bots....
at the end of the day if your multiplayer aint broken dont change it.

splinter cell dont the same thing, when they removed spy v mercs. having a strong multiplayer will get you great sales. But know they go down the lazy route.
