@That One Guy I don't know why they're constantly in the news, but if there's one thing I do know it's that these poor sales had absolutely nothing to do with the Online Pass everyone loves that could do no wrong.

Absolutely nothing.

THQ had some investor meeting recently, and everything that was brought up is just being split into separate articles and then one general article it seems. Probably to make it easier for game relevance sorting (ie, when you search "Red Faction" you'll only get the one relevant to Red Faction.)

THQ is effectivelly dead, it has close to no volume, and this is just the last nail in it's cofin.

Redfaction Armageddon was a major departure from the standard gameplay of the original series. So of course it is not going to sell well. People wanted to destroy shit in a relatively open world, not in a linear, closed-in underground space.

Well, maybe if they had standards instead of publishing shovelware like the Red Faction XBLA title that was recently out, they might stand a chance. There's only so much crap you can release before your name becomes mud. The only consistency they seem to have is with the WWE games. I expect Armageddon to be 'good' but I can't see it having the 'wow' factor. Maybe if they didn't waste money on the aforementioned shovelware, they might be able to invest money in AAA titles.

@Styli Sorry to throw a wrench here, but even the WWE games have taken a dip for the worse. OK, WWE Allstars iis awesome, thanks to its new engine and total ditching of the seriousness that permeates the main SvR games.

And the SvR games? I have bought practically every installment (except for HCTP and 06), and the games have been far from consistent quality-wise. Sure, the basic engine is rock-solid, but they are using it since SvR 07 now and there are STILL bugs and glitches in it that were present six years ago, namely the blatant move-selling and the clipping issues. But no, instead of fixing that stuff or cooking up another engine, new features get tacked on or get modified every year. Sure, we've got Road to Wrestlemania now, but the walking around in the backstage area felt totally clunky - think Resident Evil 1-3 and it did absolutely nothing for the quality of the matches themselves - they play more or less the same way as they did on SvR 07.

Would the series take a one-year hiatus so they could get some really fresh code in, it would benefit the games massively. Compared to SvR, Fifa or Madden are practically nobel prize level innovators, seriously.

@Red Runner Because people feel like they need to own the very best games in the world and buying a "good" game just isn't enough. Then they wonder "hmm, why am I growing tired of games?" but never realize that they aren't buying games THEY'RE interested in, instead they buy what others say.

@Red Runner

no, it's not. that's not how ratings are done for ANYTHING. a 1 is supposed to be the worst game possible, and a 10, the perfect game. most games are at least a bit better than the middle of that; hence the average game score is over a 5.

not to mention that, the average of 1 and 10 is 5.5, not 5, rtard.

I am sure Saint's Row 3 will get better reviews, but the problem is it isn't going to sell. There are too many games coming out in the month prior to SR3. They should have pushed it's release to AT LEAST October and patched anything that needs fixing afterwards. That way they could take advantage of the game drought and get some new user base to come in. As it is, only the biggest SR fans will pick it up over BF3, MW3, Skyrim, etc.

Soooo, first they more or less force Volition to make Red Faction a contender for CoD's fanbase by turning it into a simple corridor shootfest and now they're snuffing the franchise? Yeah, smart business decisions, really.

THQ should have allowed Volition to program RF:Guerilla 2, this time with sandbox coop and even more awesome multiplayer and that game would have marched off the shelves. People really liked Guerrilla, it got excellent word of mouth... and the management dropped the ball because all they could see was "hey, corridor shooters and horde mode sells like stupid". Idiots.

Should have listened to the fans and kept RF the way Guerrilla was headed with a few tweaks here and there, and a bump up in the on-line functions and modes, RF:G was great, you F'ed it up, so don't lament when you don't listen to the people buying it.

Red Faction: Guerrilla was a great game. I was excited for Armaggedon, until I found out they got rid of the open world/sand box aspect that made the first game so great. So, I await Armaggedon to hit the bargain bin before I pick it up.

Maybe if THQ had actually did some research to find out what fans of the previous game enjoyed - maybe it would have sold better.

Idiots.

And as cool as Saints Row 3 looks (and I will purchase it) I have doubts it'll sell as well as they hope - it's up again some FANTASTIC titles this fall.

Maybe companies should realize that the three month window before Christmas isn't the best time to realize games... there is another 9 months in the year that gamers need games!

Heck, aside from Deus Ex next month - can anyone tell me what worthwhile title dropped in June, July and August of this year? One remake (Zelda) and that's pretty much it...

I'm really excited for Darksiders, but after buying the Saints Row Double Pack a few days ago I don't understand the appeal. I guess I get that it's over the top and CRAAAAZY, but everything from the driving to the graphics to the animation is so far behind GTA that it's laughable. And don't even get me started on the physics. Nothing feels like it has any weight and my character runs like he's a lurching, hop-jogging, borderline r*tard. Also, the jokes aren't jokes. I appreciate profanity as much as anyone, but saying the word "cocksucker" is not in and of itself a punchline. Also, "Freckle Bitch's"? Seriously? That's not clever or witty and it's not an exercise in irony or satire, it's just stupid. Anyway, I just don't get the appeal and probably never will, but if you enjoy that kind of thing more power to you.

I was pretty disapointed with the overall quality of UFC Personal Trainer. I had high hopes that Kinect would finally get that "ultimate" workout game. Common sense would dictate that releasing the game during summer was probably not a good move. People are generally less active during the winter when the weather is poor :-p

I'm a big fan of Darksiders and Metro 2033 so I hope they continue with those franchises and new IP. Discontinuing Red Faction was a good move on their part. Hopefully that means, they're getting their priorities in order.

"THQ's earnings release and investor call"

It means THQ just has made a lot of info public and all the sites are writing articles about it. Same thing with the recent Need for Speed: The Run previews. All the press got back from a preview event and now we see previews popping up on all the sites.

It's usually pretty safe to assume that if :1) you see a preview going up for a particular game on a number of sites on the same day, it's because there was a press event for that game pretty recently and 2) you see a whole bunch of news about one company going up on sites there was most likely an investor call and and/or an earnings release, both of which the press have access to.

I don't think it was the game, but the crappy half assed kinect, but why even put it out if it doesn't work as advertised.

I have no sympathy, quality products should get the money, people who invest in cash grabs should know that it is a risk, and shouldn't be surprised

I was actually pleasantly surprised with UFC Trainer. As a fitness game, it's one of the better ones I've seen. Yes, the push up and situp tracking is completely broken-and that frustrated me like crazy as it's the first thing you're supposed to do, but I haven't found any problems with the exercise programs and routines beyond that first assessment. I think an 8/10 would be fair for it, having spent a few hours with it now. But I agree, mid 70's is a good aggregate score. Some of those reviews are simply reputation scores (Ehem, GTA IV).
