Capcom has reported financial results for its first fiscal quarter of 2011, which ended June 30. The company reported sales of ¥11.95 billion ($153.7 million), down from
¥19.04 billion ($244.91 million) during the same period last year -- a 37 percent decrease. Despite the dip in sales, Capcom managed to pull in a net income of
¥338 million ($4.35 million), up by 58 percent from
¥213 million ($2.74 million) during the same period last year.
Sales of "consumer online games" fell sharply, with Capcom stating that Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Monster Hunter Freedom 3 and Monster Hunter Frontier Online Forward "basically" met sales projections.
Specifically, The Mercenaries 3D – available since June 2 in Japan and since June 28 in the US – moved 400,000 units. Super Street Fighter IV Arcade, only available as DLC for a few days in June, sold 300,000. Monster Hunter Freedom 3 still managed to move 100,000 copies despite being released all the way back in December.
Meanwhile, Capcom's arcade sales were up eight percent despite the difficulties faced after Japan's earthquake earlier this year. Social games are also doing quite well for the company, cresting 19 million downloads largely on the back of Smurf's Village.

You guys think having three versions of Street Fighter 4 is bad?
Check out how many versiosn of Monster Hunter Frontier for the 360 exist:
Monster Hunter Frontier Online (Beginner's Package)
Monster Hunter Frontier Online (Season 9.0 Premium Package)
Monster Hunter Frontier Online (Season 9.0 Premium Package Collector's Edition)
Monster Hunter Frontier Online (Season 10.0 Premium Package)
Monster Hunter Frontier Online (Season 10.0 Premium Package Collector's Edition)
Monster Hunter Frontier (Online Forward 1 Premium Package)
Monster Hunter Frontier (Online Forward 1 Premium Package Collectors Edition)
Monster Hunter Frontier Online (Anniversary 2011 Premium Package)
I really wish I was joking.
Also remember how I said that was for the 360? It's also on the PC and has twice as many versions.

Capcom games used to rock, but it appears pleasing their fans is no longer in their forte. I'd love to rush out and buy some of their games, but due to their wily business practices lately, it's not hard to see why they can't zero in on a proper sales balance. I'd have a bit of the blues if they ended up in a caskett even after all this, but they aren't on the same roll they used to be. If they can put themselves in a better light, get the guts to release the games we want to play, maybe they can be the legends they once were again. But I'm not going to yellow devil my treble for them to boomer kawanger again.

haha love it, very subtle and it took me a second read to catch all of the references but sick comment.
However I think that CAPCOM does still make quality games but I feel their business model is a bit efffed. They're almost doing episodic gaming on theri games the problem is they're not taking the down sides for them that go with it ie. lower price point. If MVC3 came out at $40 (unlikely) then I don't believe as many people would have complained about UMVC3 coming out so soon to fix issues and add content.
It's not just CAPCOM though the DLC market has thrown everything out of whack in the gaming industry. Many companies try to use it and overprice their stuff. Many fail to use it where they could help enhance their games and add longevity to them. A few I believe have found a nice medium (...actually I can't think of any but I'll leave this here). The most preposterous imo are FPS releasing Map Packs for $10+, maps take literally minimal effort to make. They have tools to do this for them and it's a simple as using something similar to photoshop. It isn't nearly enough content to validate that kind of price tag.

Have to agree with you on the wily business, seems they just keep rebuilding eight robot masters over and over again no matter how many times we take them down.
They need to do something to change things up otherwise I might just shake my Bonne Bonne and dash outta here.

Wait...that far-too-expensive repackaging of 2 free bonus modes from previous Resident Evil games with the perma-save that basically renders it un-resellable sold 400,000 copies while Shadows of the Damned (a very creative, semi-original game) only managed to squeak out 20K in roughly the same period? Can I get an OUCH?!

Mercenaries is fun and (the free stuff) I was on the fence about getting the 3DS game almost PURELY on the fact that I'm starved to play the system. That is something you gotta factor into your figures the 360 and PS3 have other options for games the 3DS... not so much. Figures show that 800k 3DS'es have been sold in the US so roughly half of that has bought the game (not sure if those figures are in america, japan or global) so that they have something to use the hardware is not too shocking. Sickening...but not shocking.

Launch-esque title. Even Namco released a Ridge Racer. Everyone knows a brand release at launch with little competition will sell at least 50% of the base sales (800k/2).
Capcorn were so cool as a small GAME company. lets all try to return them to their formor glory. STOP buying their games.

Make a game, intentionally leave out characters/features. Re-release game 8 months later with the always intended extra content. Re-release it again a year later. Keep re-releasing it with minimal-to-no upgrades every year forever.
Sound business plan, but rather goes against the spirit of the thing. They can go jump in a lake as far as I'm concerned.

The MvC3 coming out in Feb 2011 and then they are releasing UMvC3 in Nov 2011, WTF? This needs to be DLC like AE was for SSFIV. More people will buy stuff if they aren't feeling raped for buying a product less than a year ago.

It was originally slated to be DLC but the common excuse is that the earthquake pushed back the schedules for the DLC and then they decided to release it all at a lower price point (12 chars = $60, UMVC3 = $40). Plus it gives them the opportunity to upgrade framework issues and engine updates/upgrades. Somethings you can't work out with patches so I'm not that mad at the outcome.

Good slave. We'll be sure to get you some of the toilet water to drink with your piece of bread tonight. No water from the septic tank. Tonight.
Seriously, you are enabling the actions by buying into this business model that is there to fleece you of your money.
Would releasing the game three months after rile your feathers? Or no? You'd still find a way to put lipstick on that pig?
Come on, you're smarter than this, I know it!

I have an idea Capcom...instead of releasing 10 different versions of the same game(i.e SF4,DR2 im suprised you havent made Super Lost Planet 2 Arcade Extreme 3D Edition) how about you make a current gen Mega Man game or Super Ghouls and Ghosts or even Steel Battalion

As much I'd love to be unfair to Capcom, the God of War Collection also came out for $40 at first. $40 has pretty much become the standard MSRP for HD compliation re-releases. It really annoys me that they're being sold on 2 separate discs though. I'll wait for the inevitable 2 games on 1 disc repackage.

Unlikely though if you don't own a 3DS you shouldn't argue the point. Business logic for the decision makes sense even if you don't wanna hear it or care about it. CAPCOM is a business at the end of the day, and I feel for the most part they care about their fans and have a good community to do so. MML3 didn't get support in the DevRoom that CAPCOM wanted to see to reflect solid sales. That franchise is a niche franchise I hear nothing but mixed reviews about the series. On top of that the install base of the 3DS is low so multiplying the percents together you get a very low number of sales. I'd love to see MML3 come out purely on the grounds that a) I've never played a MML game and b) My 3DS currently functions as a pedometer almost exclusively.

Wow, apparently some of you think that sales and revenue mean everything. If anyone knows anything about accounting, business or even finance, you would know that this is not true. I'm happy that Capcom is doing well on the most important side...the net income. They are actually earning money which can result to more products to us, the gamers. Whether we will see good or bad games in the future...I have no idea. However, it may be better than no games at all.
