Breath of Fire 4 is set to heat up PSN in August

Fans of the PS1 classic Breath of Fire 4 can breathe a sigh of relief, or fire, or fiery relief, or reliefery fire, or... never mind. Breath of Fire 4 is scheduled to launch August 16 on PSN in the United States, according to a forum post from Capcom Senior VP Christian Svensson. Svensson also revealed that Breath of Fire PSN avatars will be available for purchase on launch day, "to celebrate," probably because fireworks would be too predictable.

great news cant wait to pick this one up

This game was beautiful on the PS1. Fond, fond memories. BoF III was a little better iMO, but definitely a good buy.

BoF III was the most recent one that I played, and yeah, it was pretty awesome. Is 4 basically the same battle system with enhanced graphics, or did they change it up?

I loved the first & second ones, and I still think BOF3 is better than any RPG I've played as of late. Unfortunately never gave the 4th one a shot for some unknown reason, I'll definitely have to pick it up.

This is my favorite RPG series i played all breath of fire games except the ps2 one. i didn't find it so i never had a chance to play it.

Don't play the ps2 one, you'll be disappointed. :\

While I'd certainly agree that it was highly disappointing as a BoF game, it still has its merits, as long as people know what kind of game they're getting into and not get their hopes up for anything else (like I did) you shouldn't have to tell them not to play it.

3 is by far the best in the series. 4 is good and pretty, but a little disapointing. Seems like it's missing something.

Only major thing BoF 3 has that was way better than BoF 4 was Ryuu's dragon transformations (which was my deciding factor that BoF 3 was slightly better)...but I feel BoF 4 had a better battle system and some awesome characters.

@Martin C Breath of Fire I, II III and IV? Pure awesome. Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter? EPIC FAIL. Can't blame Capcom for not making any BOF games since 2003.

I think Sony should step up the PS1 re-releases.

No we don't. Unless you mean the portable version which you can't play on the PS3.

Really? I didn't know that...I just remember my wife pulling that one up on her PSN account once...looked it up just now and found that it is in fact a dedicated PSP game...my bad. (thought it was a classic download).

Still though...the question remains...why in the hell did it never release in NA? ...man, I really don't get the sh!t gaming companies are up to lately...

I've always wanted to play this game. Back in the PS1 days I was too busy with other RPGs. Now-a-days not so much. I'll certainly buy this first day.

This game was ridiculously awesomerific back in the day!

This was my entry into the rpg genre. It's when I found out RPGs aren't for me.

I agree. I want them to make BoF 6 and make it like the old games. Dragon Quarter sucked.

I want an oldstyle RPG BoF too, but let's face it, publishers don't want that kind of thing anymore. It all has to be linear and automatic, so they can show you all the fancy graphics they made one by one in a neat order. And not frustrate the poor player with such confusing things as a proper game world.

That said, I'd take just about ANY sequel to the franchise right now. Not that I wouldn't be sad if they dumbed it down even further for people who don't even want to play RPG's like the whole industry's been doing... but at least it'd be something!

I never did get a chance to play much of this one. I'm going to have to pick this up.

The only thing which I did not like about BoF 3 is that it was plagued with the same acid jazz / lounge music that afflicted Marvel vs. Capcom 2, because Caocom s sound designers were "experimenting" with it at the time.

I love all of the Breath of Fire games. 3 and 4 will be much appreciated as PSone Classics. I own the discs, but I wouldn't mine getting digital copies for my PSP.

this is a PS1 classics release. i don't think any of them have that kind of DRM (although- maybe they've started and i didn't hear). i suppose if any company decided to apply that kind of shitty DRM though, it would be Capcom :/

i guess no EU release. oh well just same routine again, like with xsenogears (to buy US PSN).

It really is stupid. I wish the PSN classics would get released simultaneously. Gooness knows the EU has been screwed over enough throughout video game history. But, feel good that Vagrant Story was in EU PSN long before USA. That was the one I waited for.

I actually managed to buy the original game disc from this mom and pop used game shop a few months ago for $15! It still had the book and everything, plus the disc was immaculate! I need to play it, but I'm going to hold off until I play and beat the first two that I have on GBA.

Made my day. I still want 3 because I lost my CD and havn't played it in almost 10 years while I played 4 a few years back, but I'm still gonna buy this...made me fing day.

You are correct.... BoF 5 was no reason to kill the series, just to learn from its mistakes and move on. A new BoF, Ledgend of Dragoon, Valkyrie Profile and Grandia are long over due. Its beyond me how deveoples for these great RPG series are not capitalizing on the successful potential of those awesome titles. Although the US rarely gets any, but atleast the Tales series is keeping up with the times.
