I actually like the post with it's live embedded video and all. I wouldn't want all of them to be like this, but it's good to see special events.

On the other hand, My only problem with this is the fact RTS and most FPS games aren't really great to watch. Last time I saw an event like this, which was a long time ago, they had no live feeds of the GAMES and it was basically 3 hrs of looking at people make faces in front of monitors, while brain dead announces just make random and irrelevant speech.

EVO 2k11 is more my kind of event. I like how they cover it, I love how they know what they are talking about. As much as I like some of the guys who play, they don't spend too much time on them, but rather on the game play.

I'll probably check this out for a little while just to see what its all about, but I'm really more about the EVO with SSF4 and MvC3.

"Last time I saw an event like this, which was a long time ago"

So the last time you watched it was irreverent.

"I love how they know what they are talking about"

How long ago did you watch exactly? You can't find much better then DJWheat, Husky, MrBitter, and Day9 to cover starcraft2. If TotalBiscuit wasn't in europe covering ELC3, MLG would have the total package.

That would require joystiq having a stream they can repost here. They're just liking to the MLG stream.

Been watching SC2 all weekend. Some crazy games.

I love that it took the main stage this time.

It's because BlackOps isn't as popular as it should be competitively (because CoD is flavor of the year) and Halo Reach is dying a slow death. SC2 on the other hand keeps getting bigger and bigger.

I think it would be great if you covered the biggest happening of watching other people play video games this weekend, which is for sure EVO. Get hype Joystiq!

Not likely, they're only links to streams provided by other people's hard work. No one from joystiq is behind the stream.

EVO is better presented than MLG in my opinion. Perhaps it's that fighting games are more watchable than shooters and RTSs because you always see everything that's going on in a fighting game. Also, Seth and ultradavid commentate FGs better than Pluckett and Day9 commentate Reach and Startcraft, respectively. I don't watch anything else on MLG.

Also, the biggest factor for me is that MLG always has more post tourney content to watch than EVO, so I can always watch great MLG matches later.

@MGTrey I actually prefer to watch rts tournaments over fps or fighting games. (mainly because imo it's much more difficult to master a game like sc2 vs a game like cod, halo, or tekken. More so the former. Not discrediting those games, I just think SC2 live is more impressive.)

Ads provide the money used by most of these tournaments for the prize pool. By blocking them you're not supporting esports and you're just as bad as people that pirate video games and/or kill babes.

By not watches the ads you're not supporting esports. Ads contribute to the prize pools for most tournaments.

Drop shooting has existed since CoD4 as has quick scoping, anyone surprised or dying to it deserves it.

BF3 won't be any better since it'll have prone too. Maybe quick scoping will go away but dropping will be there. Smaller profile = harder to hit.

@SirUrza I agree about the smaller profile but know one can drop too the ground and be dead accurate with a gun or anything else so its wack and its cheap and i would think people that are supposed to be "pro" gamers wouldnt resort to such wack strategies and bf3 doesnt have drop shots i played the alpha you can go prone but you cant shoot as your dropping

"but know one can drop too the ground and be dead accurate with a gun"

I agree, no one can, that's why it's a video game and not real life.

"anything else so its wack and its cheap and i would think people that are supposed to be "pro" gamers wouldnt resort to such wack strategies"

Pro gamers are playing for money. They'll use any tactic, whether it's cheap, cheese, or lame to win as long as it's within the rules.

"bf3 doesnt have drop shots i played the alpha you can go prone but you cant shoot as your dropping"

No, but you can drop to the ground AND then shoot, which was yields the majority of the kills, not the bullets fired when dropping.

I can understand this with sports. Not everyone can do what athletes do. But games? WTF everyone can do that so long as you have enough money for the games and consoles.

Could say the same thing about watching a football game or watching a baseball game. Why don't you go play then. Well, I'm not Tom Brady or Derrick Jeter. But I can appreciate watching them.

@Tihn If its a deep, skill based game, as a player you will be able to appreciate the play of someone really good.

I dont really watch to get tips or whatever, I watch to be entertained like any other sport. Also just to note, in life I generally find; if alot of people like something its generally good, theres just a few physiological barriers or prejudices a jaded newcomer needs to overcome before they ALLOW themselves to enjoy it. (Dont try and stress that rule, within randy/ furry/ sick reason)

Do you think that I thought it was amazing idea at first? Far from it, I laughed at the weirdos commentating to an old game on youtube back in 2007, (SC: Brood War) the same apparrent Command and Conquer wannabe I played with our Chinese room mate. But fairly soon, driven by a mixture of curiousity and cynicism I slowly grasped the rules of the game and developed an undertanding of what was actually going on. By this point the once eye rolling enthusiasm of the commentator added greatly to the experience and the whole thing took on an entirely different light.

What Im basically saying is, if you give it a chance, as a gamer you will be fairly surprised, but dont go in thinking you have to be impressed or even interested at the beginning, its a grower....... but a fast grower, if you allow it.

Have you seen the attendence for Starcraft 2? Nevermind esports, this is potentially one of the fastest growing sports today, plus unlike traditional games, where growth is restricted by language and region, this is a global phenomenon.
