Gameloft is benefiting greatly from the age of mobile gaming, with sales up significantly in the first half of 2011. The company's controversial working conditions and ethically flexible game development appear to be producing results, with sales up 15 percent to €76.8 million ($108.8M).
The publisher cited sales in emerging countries and the "massive success" of games on smartphones and tablets around the world for its prosperity. Gameloft's first-half sales on smartphones and tablets grew 55 percent year-over-year and represented 30 percent of sales; it plans to launch approximately 20 games for smartphones and tablets in the second half of the fiscal year. Gosh, we really need to crack the whip at Joystiq Publishing® China™ and get that Angry Cocker Spaniel catapult game out the door.

I hesitate to say "so much talent", but at the very least "so much manpower" going to waste on low-quality rip-offs. Ugh. Stop supporting them, people.

The imitation market is very viable. It's a time tested market.

Gameloft makes awesome games. On my HTC Thunderbolt I have NOVA 2, Modern Combat 2, Dungeon Hunter 2, Star Front, Asphalt 6, Eternal Legacy, Sacred Odyssey, Shadow Guardian, Gangstar Miami, and BackStab. None of the ideas are original but the games are freaking awesome. Some of the best games available on Android right now.

Gameloft has the best iOS selection available, that's no question. I myself never buy their games at full price, I wait until they're at 99 cents. I can't justify buying their lackluster games for $4-6 when I could buy something way better on PSN or XBL for a bit more.

@Dcmac can't justify paying full price for any game that tries to emulate a "console/handheld" experience. the games were never made for the device, and developers should seriously stop putting them there until the controls are completely suited to the screen. games such as bad company and so forth may have the controls adjusted for the touch screen button, but they still fail at being intuitive when you can only aim or shoot when maneuvering(only few have fixed this problem by making it so that the gun only fires when over a target). Games such as Pocket RPG(ironic title for an iPad game) are games done right, even in hectic situations you can maneuver without being too overwhelmed.

All Gameloft does is rip off (sorry, "base their gameplay off of") popular games. They've already done Halo, CoD, Uncharted, Legend of Zelda, Starcraft, NFS, Grand Theft Auto, and countless others.
The only game I've bought from them is N.O.V.A., and only then because it was their first ripoff and that was OK because, hey, Halo on the iPod.
The graphics are half-assed (even for an iPhone game), the gameplay is bland, the voice acting is terrible, and the entire experience is unfulfilling.
Don't buy Gameloft games and you'll be promoting innovation in games.

@EliminatorZigma "Halo, CoD, Uncharted, Legend of Zelda, Starcraft, NFS, Grand Theft Auto"
Yeah, but Halo is a ripoff of Doom, or Unreal
CoD is a ripoff of Medal of Honor
Uncharted is a ripoff of Tomb Raider
Zelda is a ripoff Dragon Slayer
Starcraft is a ripoff of Herzog Zwei, or Dune
NFS is a ripoff of Test Drive
At least Grand Theft Auto didn't ripoff anything (maybe).
If you were around during the 8-16bit era, every platformer was a ripoff of Mario or Sonic, and every fighting game was a ripoff of Street Fighter II or Mortal Combat. There were literally hundreds of 'ripoff' games on the shelves in these genres.
Videogames have always ripped off other videogames. I'm not sure why Gameloft gets all the hate for doing what has always been done.

The whole situation around Gameloft is pretty interesting. They make low versions of popular games. You see the same thing with direct to dvd movies. Walk around a video store and you'll see weird rip offs (so close to the source materiel that it would confuse) of popular movies. I guess its just a product of video games becoming more mainstream.

@TwEE My favorite was seeing a middle-aged couple excited to be picking up a DVD of the still-in-theaters Thor. I had to be a good person and let them know that it was the fantastic Marvel action flick, but was instead "Thor: God of Thunder" made on a $10K budget. It's kind of disgusting how companies release that kind of shlock hoping for confused consumer sales.

I actually like a lot of their games:
"Demigod of War"
"Aureole"
"The Tale of Zelda"
"SpaceCraft"
"Call of Duty, but on your phone!"
Actually, I think "..., but on your phone!" is their official development motto.
