Years ago I rented blast corps, and it was all finished with no way to erase the game. I had to call funco land to find out you need to hold start upon booting up to get to the data management screen.

It wasn't that long ago users had to do this with system cache as well. Remember the button code for the Xbox 360 when it still used the Blades?

I'm sure Nintendo is pissed over this stink. If it wasn't already a requirement by Nintendo to allow save data erasing/clearing I'm sure it is now. It is generally a good idea to allow an option to remove data in the event software does not properly handle corrupt data for example.

I doubt Nintendo will be so easy on Capcom the next time they want to release a title on the 3DS. One of many ways compliance requirements are formed is based on consumer feedback (obvious statement is obvious). I'm sure there were more than enough complaints from customers and the media to push something like this through, if it wasn't already in place to begin with. I'd like to think it was considering stigma over their "Seal of Quality" over the years.

In any case I'm glad developers have realized this even if Nintendo hasn't. Good show Namco Bandai.

Holding all the buttons down to erase saved data on a handheld isn't new. It's been done in DS games & it's mentioned in some 3DS manuals, like OoT 3D.

While I still think it's not that bad considering it's just a score/time attack game (believe me, if this was done on something like an RPG where I couldn't start over again from the beginning of the story, yeah, I'd be mad), I don't get why they'd keep this hidden (unless stated in the manual like mentioned before).

I think usually fans figure out on their own, but this time around people would rather jump on the evil company news than try holding down buttons first and seeing what happens.

I think a significant portion of the damage is already done. Namco needs to put these type of fires out more quickly, especially in the internet/fan rage age.

So.... instead of a simple menu option .... it is instead arbitrarily buried....

Way to be lazy, you deserve all the ire you reaped. Maybe next time you will spend the 5min to add a simple menu option, Hmmmmmmm?

With games costing more, and people earn less, is it wrong to expect more than five hours content for £45/$60? I don't think so.

It isn't even like this is a new way to do things. A lot of games have had the option to delete data as a hidden button sequence like this. All of the Pokémon games have done this (yes, you could select New Game and overwrite the existing game, but it had a secret option to completely wipe out the game, too).

So didn't they just recently specifically DEFEND the decision not to let data be erased?

Nobody at the company understood that the data could be erased? They only just figured it out?

Pretty much what I was gonna say. Or they were waiting to see if there was a backlash... and there was, so they're all "no wait! Don't go! There's a way to erase the game after all!"

If there was never a backlash they would have never released the button sequence, and that's just wrong imo.

Off topic but interesting, I just looked back at the list of DS games and only 2 of the games I own (I own over 30) came out in the first 7 months and only one of them was any good. Most of the early good games actually came out a year+ after launch so I won't be worrying about the 3DS game library until next june.

"There is no way to erase the save from within the game itself without misusing the hardware, causing corruption," a company rep told Shack, promising dire consequences for anybody who wants to have some control over a product they've paid money for.

What miscommunication?

So, can't they just release a patch adding "new game" and "erase file" options, just like they would do on PS3? (this being the only console I own and hence I know how it works, not sure about 3DS, but come on, it's new gen!)
