@brotherdaz You know that DLC is optional, right? You don't have to buy it. I bought the game, but none of the DLC. Do you just expect developers to give all of their work away for free? Look how many game studios have been closed in the past few years. I would rather all game studios charge for DLC than any more get shut down because they weren't making money. Remember, less studios means less good games. What do you think you're going to do? Whine until all DLC is free? If studios were forced to not charge for DLC, then most just wouldn't make any. I would rather they charge for it and let me decide whether I want to buy it or not, then not even have the option at all.

Well, except Wii owners. We got it for $50. No map packs, but with the exception of a few maps (and Call of the Dead zombie pack) from the past DLC, we're not missing much!

@brotherdaz I'll be buying the GOTY edition in a year or two when it's $20 and has all of the map packs for free. I love zombies and a good coop game! Plus I'll have the campaign to play. The multiplayer in Black Ops is its weakest link since the online is so laggy on the PS3. More importantly, I'm sick of CoD online.

I'd like to point out that the people who've payed for all 4 DLC packs have probably put WELL over 150 hours into Black Ops. So complaining about the DLC not being a good value proposition is kind of silly.

Me, I've bought one pack so far, when I got tired of the stock maps. When I get tired of the maps in that, I'll buy the next one. I've logged more than enough play time to justify giving Treyarch a measly $15 dollars.

DLC is a legitimate strategy for extending the life of a game beyond it's initial release. It also bridges that income gap for a company between title releases and also keeps interest in the franchise up.

From a fan perspective, it allows you to continue having new experiences in the franchise until the make the sequel (if they're going to make a sequel). DLC, when done well, is a great way to keep the game going for a minimal cost without forcing gamers to wait 2-3 years for the sequel. Not all DLC is evil nor is all of it capable of being on the initial release (contrary to some beliefs, not every piece of DLC is "held out" content intended for the initial game).

Yeah, but Fallout was a single player game, meaning if you're interested in the extension of the story, you would actually want to get DLC.

"The multiplayer in Black Ops is its weakest link since the online is so laggy on the PS3."

Black Ops is by far the most played online game on the PS3 and is the best selling game on the PS3 (primarily for multiplayer for sure) and this would not be the case if the online was really laggy.

Myself and at least 10 friends of mine in different places in North America with different internet connections have had nothing but excellent online quality in Black Ops and I have never seen a complaint about lagging in online forums.

I think you need to check your internet connection.

Black Ops for the PS3 online is about all that I play and even though I have excellent signal from my router, I am always getting "connection interrupted" messages and lagging problems. I have even tried hard wiring my internet, but it doesn't seem to help. My friends also complain of lagging and I haven't been to a forum site for the PS3 where at least 3 or 4 people won't complaining about the "connection interruption" message and/or lagging issues.

But I deal with the connection issues because Black Ops is the sh*t!!

Oh like you're so entitled cause you own your fancy HD system that can output 1080P graphics, blah blah blah.

I'm sick of this "hardcore" mentality that people have just because they play "mature" violent games. I remember when gaming was all about fun. No one cared how powerful the console was. It was all about play.

I have a PC and a Steam account. I rarely use it cause most of the games don't appeal to me. I downloaded Modern Warfare 2 to see what all the fuss was about and it's the most boring piece of shit I've ever played. Call of Duty is the most redundant, mediocre franchise to come out in years. All it accomplished was the rise of hardcore dudebro elitist douchebags who like to brag about the e-penis killstreaks and perks.

And I rarely play FPS games for the very reasons I described above.

I had GoldenEye for the Wii and played it to death. It got boring so I got Conduit 2 instead. So far I like it, but it's just a generic Halo rip-off.

FPS games don't hold their value. Once people get their fill of the multiplayer, it's on to the next fad. This is what I dislike about modern gaming. Nothing is held to sentimental value anymore.

20 years from now, I highly doubt people are going to be nostalgic for these shooters. Most of them play the same, and multiplayer is just tacked on. I mainly play single-player games, and the games I hold dear are the ones with intriguing gameplay, memorable stories, fun level design, endearing characters, etc.

Portal
NSMB Wii
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country
DKC Returns
Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2
Metroid Prime 1, 2, 3
Super Metroid
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Zelda: Wind Waker
Zelda: Link's Awakening
Zelda: A Link to the Past
Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3
Sonic & Knuckles
Sonic Colors
Sonic Rush
God of War
Halo (for the story and music)
etc.

You can't get the same nostalgic experience with FPS games unless it has a damn good story and unique weapon designs.

So essentially you are admitting that you can be nostalgic for an FPS. It's not like people fondly remember every platformer or adventure game, I don't see how FPS are different. You yourself listed Halo... and Prime has extremely strong FPS mechanics. People already look back on games like Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Golden Eye, Halo, etc... the same will be true of some of today's shooters.

People really complain WAY to much when it comes to DLC. The fact is treyarch WANTED to make DLC, no one forced them too they didn't have to at all. and if you WANT to pay for the maps then you can if you don't THEN DON'T simple as that. Same thing went for MW2 they WANTED to release more maps and it was optional to buy them. I didn't nor did i complain about them.

MEGATOOL said it best when he said "OPTIONAL"

Thing is, If you WANT to have extra maps in your game then you'll pay for them if you don't you won't. simple as that.

I'm getting pretty fed up with the $15 map packs every 5 minutes, so what do you do when you don't like something? You stop supporting it, which is why I'm going to give my money to their industry rival - Modern Warfare 2.

Oh wait, their DLC is still $15 too.

From MTV's site:

UPDATE: The official contents of the "Resurrection" map pack (officially called "Rezurrection") are as follows:

• The all new Moon level
• Four re-mastered levels of Zombie lore: Nacht der Untoten, Verruckt, Shi No Numa and Der Riese, the Zombie factory that started it all
• An enhanced Zombies Soundtrack including three tracks never before available for purchase
• A new Zombies Moon theme

If you already had the code from the Hardened or Prestige Edition of "Black Ops," you'll be granted all the contents of the "Rezurrection" map pack for free, including the new Moon map.

The official release date is August 23rd on Xbox Live for 1200 MS points, with other platforms getting it at a later date.

What I don't like is the fact that Activision won't release the zombie maps on their own for the people who only want the zombie maps instead of bundling it with 4 MP maps they don't want. I don't think it's fair, but life isn't fair and Activision is a business, so while people keep buying the map packs, they'll continue to overcharge.

@SuperMike861 Well considering each map pack makes them so much money, I doubt they would go that route, but you aren't the only person that wishes this. My friend and I love zombies and while I have gone on to get some of the packs between World at War and Black Ops, he unfortunately hasn't and still hopes to this day that they will just release a stand alone zombies pack for either game.

The $60 in DLC I saved will be put towards either BF3 or MW3.

On a side note, how can they justify $60's in just map packs when a full game sells for $60? Content wise, there's no comparison. The math just doesn't add up.

Would loved to have see this kind of post release support after CoD4 :(
