There comes a time when a game revolutionizes an industry. This might be it. If Doom 3 wasn't plagued with monster closets, it would have been it. This looks spoon good!

@darkhellmutt You guys are all wrong except for 2late2die. Guild Wars 2 will revolutionize the gaming industry. If you don't know why, google it real quick and prepare to be surprised.

Just when I thought this couldn't get any cooler looking, id surprises me again. Bravo.

...Now, let's just hope the actual gameplay is fun and that the story is at least half as interesting as this trailer makes it seem.

Please id, make this one good. You owe it to yourselves.

In this and every other game released in the past 10 years. He's taking money right out of Nolan North's wallet!

Also, they had me at the Howie Long scream.

Pre-Ordered. I was hardly paying attention to this and then one day I just decided to watch those Dev Diaries and read a couple sites previews of the game and got pretty excited about what I read and saw. Then I hear John Goodman and Steve Blum...sold!

That was last year and before that. Games have to trump each other to revolutionize. I agree with you though, all those titles are stellar!

Am I the only one who isn't blown away by the graphics? Don't get me wrong - they look good. But everyone keeps talking about it like they are revolutionary, and really they look about the same as any other AAA title these days.

And as for those of you commenting about Steve Blum/Spike doing a voice over - that's hardly a selling point. You'd be hard pressed to find a major game in which he *hasn't* done voice work - sometimes more than one character. John Goodman on the other hand...that's pretty cool.

@doubleonad I'm with you. It's looking good but not "revolutionary" good. Honestly, I think these days, most revolutionary stuff comes from indie devs. The big studios have big publishers looking over their shoulders making sure they don't rock the boat too hard. Even the games I'm really looking forward to, like the next uncharted, mass effect, deus ex and skyrim - they all look really good, and may be even better when they come out, but none of them have shown anything revolutionary.

On the other hand look at games like Limbo, Stacked, Amnesia and, just found out about, Dishonored - http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/the-blubber-based-world-of-dishonored/

@doubleonad "It looks good" that's a good start. Revolutionary I wouldn't go there since I'm mostly a console guy and anything looking close to this looks incredible to me. I'm not even an FPS player, but this game has my attention. As long as it's fun and has an interesting story I'm locked.

@blessrok I agree. Gameplay and story are far more important than graphics. I'm just commenting on how all the gaming media outlets are going crazy over the graphics. I don't see what's so noteworthy about them.

@doubleonad If you don't understand why there's hype then you probably don't know enough about the subject to comment in the first place. Most engine developers are trying to find ways to improve on the shit he developed a decade ago while Carmack is solving problems and moving in directions they aren't even aware of. You don't know what you don't know.

@doubleonad The major things about idTech5 are all behind the scenes in the engine, especially various things in the render pipeline. while the art assets themselves are (while top notch) equivalent to others in the industry, Things like the scalability of the engine (we're talking the equivalent of playing Crysis 2 on Ultra settings on a system that could probably only smoothly handle Crysis 1 on High settings), the Virtual texturing system (Texture tiling? what's that?) and Memory Management (Loading screens? what loading screens?) are what people are truly excited about. Basically Carmack always pioneers the next generation of how graphics engines should actually RUN, rather than just look OMFG pretty. though, let's be honest, it's not the ugliest game I've ever seen, eh?

@Muskie What an insightful reply! I hadn't seen any info about the technology behind the game - only superficial praise about the visuals themselves. What you described is definitely more exciting.

Thank you for taking the time post useful information rather than just condescending nonsense like a certain other user.

@doubleonad Whats impressive is that its an open world game that looks really good running at 60fps. The only 2 console games that come to mind that run at a constant 60fps are call of duty and fighting games, and those have tiny maps.

The engine, for sure. Carmack has always been a genius when it comes to this stuff. Hopefully the gameplay and story will follow.

SOLD! I was on the fence about this game until I saw this trailer. The trailer has a Quake II vibe to it.

Also, was that Steve Blum's voice I heard? This game is going to be amazing!

Why are so many people impressed by the presence of Steve Blum's pipes?

It's harder to find a game that lacks his voice than to find one featuring it.

Every single time I fire up my PS3/360, I can be sure I'll be hearing Spike Spiegel within minutes.

Yep, looks awesome. 1 small gripe... Does anyone else think the faction titles are pretty bland?? I mean, "The Authority" and "The Resistance"?.. lol. You can't get much more cookie-cutter or stupidly simple than that. Who writes this shit??

Maybe the main character's name is "The Hero"!???

Don't get me wrong, it's still most likely a buy for me. I'm just a little disappointed when the writing in video games is so vapid and dull. It damages the suspension of disbelief and results in a less immersive game environment.
