I miss it too. The Joystiq Podcast was one of the podcasts I listened to as soon as it was downloaded. When I could, I listened to them record it live.

The Joystiq Show I have no enthusiasm for. I didn't even listen to episodes 3 & 4 because the next week's episode came out before I even thought about listening to them.

It's sad that the editors get on these posts not for praise, but to defend a disaster. I'm sticking to "With a q."

Now THIS was excellent. Good first half with the interviews and format, good second half with a roundtable that didn't snuff out your sense of humor. More of this please!

Let it go nerds... Megaman is dead, probably for the better. Same reason trying to bring back wonder woman is a bad idea.. It'd be shit!

@TenEightyPeewee Some people have been playing Mega Man games for 24 years, and some (like me) have been waiting for Mega Man Legends 3 for ten years. It's okay for us to be upset, although I'll be the first person to admit some people have taken this way too far.

Also, Mega Man 9 and 10 both came out recently and were very well received. I will agree that Wonder Woman should continue aimlessly searching for her invisible jet...

Until the Roundtable, I thought I had accidently downloaded an episode of NPR's Marketplace. Although unlike Marketplace, this was neither interesting nor informative. The poorest episode yet.

It's worth noting that Capcom released a new IP in Japan just 2 days ago called Nazo Waku Yakata. They'll also be publishing Layton v Gyakuten Saiban and DMC.

I think this episode was better than the ones that came before it. I like the (slightly) more open topic, but I still think the focus of any given episode is too narrow. I like how Gamers with Jobs does it, they take a broader topic to talk about within the industry, rather than a particular game/ series. The trouble with a whole ep dedicated to one thing is if you arn't interested in that game, its the dullest thing ever to listen to.

Still, think the format is interesting, and has the capacity to turn into an essential weekly listen.

This was the best Joystiq Show yet. The interview section of this episode was far more interesting than in previous weeks. I think that dropping the straight Q&A format was a good call. Editing the interviews in a more "storytelling" fashion made a huge difference, and worked great. The roundtable also felt far more natural and casual, while still remaining professional.

This episode really shows the potential of the new format. I'm sorry that I broke up with you for a few weeks, maybe we can work things out after all.

I liked the tight narrative in the first section of the game. There seemed to be a real story you were telling, and it was interesting. I am listening on a different computer, but I thought the sound quality in the "call in" section was better.

The second part fell apart a little at the end. I thought you guys were talking about the steps leading up to Captivate then the drop off you seemed focused, but the back half came off as a little "I want X game to be remade". I guess that is the problem developers face. Even the people who thirst for innovative/new games the most still want companies to churn out yet another version of their favorite game.

Yeah, I think that's almost the point. it's sort of a joke, because we spent the whole conversation talking about new IP and closed it by talking about all the sequels / reboots we would like to see.

It's also kind of serious too, because I think we're all excited by new games, but we also want to see our favorites stay alive.

I feel like this show is that awkward freshman in school that no one likes because he is a bit different. A little rough at first, but then you notice he has his own swag. He does his own thing, blazing his own trail. By senior year he is that guy you wish you were.

Good job on the show! Keep it up.

While I do miss the "hanging with your buds" feel of the old Joystiq Podcast, people need to lighten up on the new show. I quite enjoy the new format and I believe that the staff here a Joystiq is elevating the format to a new level.

As a "Journalist" myself I feel that the interviews and round table discussions that have been conducted so far have been thought provoking and insightful. I've been in television news for the better part of the last six years and I'll tell you, it's damned hard to pull of a good story that presents a concise viewpoint and thoughtful counterpoints in a way that keeps an audience engaged as if they were in on the conversation. The fine folks at the 'stiq have accomplished this handily week in and week out (plus they still manage to put out all of the daily scoops that keep us reading on a daily or hourly basis.)

So if they the new show is not your cup of tea ... fine. Keep it locked monthly for the "With a Q" show. But please, for the love of all that is good in the world, stop trolling on how the new show "Sux" or "is total Crap!!" and even the many "Bring back the old show!" requests. That ship has sailed. Most of us are adults now and I'm proud to listen to an honest representation of how my friends and I wish to be treated as gamers. This is a legitimate hobby and there is room in enthusiast press space for educated discussion.

Thanks, Joystiq!

@jayhest OK, here's some genuine criticism, for a periodical to succeed, you need to give people a reason to make it appointment consumption. Centering an hourplus long of my time to games or topics I couldn't care one iota about (not that case with this particular one in my opinion) isn't something that most people are going to do. More general industry topics or podcasts centered around more than a single central theme would probably make this transition a little easier.

Obviously easier said than done, which is why the previous format worked so well in giving takes on current developments in the industry or released games or email questions. Those constantly changed and so if this particular 30 second bit didn't work the next one might.

i like the new format (also loved the old show, so also super excited for With a q"), but some of the interviews sound like the guests are talking TO the listener (or just talking and hoping someone is listening), instead of having a conversation with the interviewer (or anyone). It just feels like Richards parts are too obviously placed in after the fact and its just kinda jarring.

When it gets to the roundtable though, thats when i feel some energy coming into the show. Again, like the new format, but it just feels like the 2 halves of the show lack the same....tone, i guess, and dont feel like they are part of the same show. I know its still a new show and is being tweaked, so keep it up guys!

I will admit, I haven't listened to this one yet. I haven't downloaded it. At least for me that kind of says a lot, because I was always chomping at the bit to listen to X3F. I will not sit here and lament the old broadcast, I will only say that I enjoyed it while it was here.

That being said I do want to say that I am glad Richard Mitchell is the one handling the show. Even if you don't enjoy the new format you have to like him as a host. I always enjoyed him on X3F as the straight man to Dave and Alexander's funny guys. While it sucks I don't get to listen to Dave and Alexander nearly as much anymore I am glad that the end of X3F didn't cause Richard to disappear out of the new format as well.

I didn't really enjoy the previous episodes, but I liked this show. Seems like the new format is starting to come together. I like how it was streamlined into two segments, and how the roundtable was more relaxed than previous shows.

I thought this was going to be on a separate feed from "With a Q?" Either way, I still listen to both. Love the new Q show. Great laughs.

Fantastic episode guys. The first one I've enjoyed with the new format.

The structure of this episode was perfect. Just enough info during the interview portion to lay the foundation for a solid round-table. Also, the production of this episode felt more solid with less jarring interruptions to introduce people.

This will be a show worth listening to as long as you keep the topics relevant, and the round-tables honest. I'm back on board.

Does anybody know where I can download old episodes of The Joystiq podcast? I'm late to the game, and iTunes only has episodes 168-present.

While I miss the old show, and always will, this episode had something going for it.

The interviews were short, but meaningful. Richard asked the right questions, and combined with great editing, I felt like the interviews built a solid foundation for the roundtable. A comment on the roundtable, and future roundtables. Keep the discussion light and fun, like this episode's discussion. While the show's tone is obviously more serious, the back and forth talking is more enjoyable with a touch of humor.

Finally, a question. Would it be possible to do a more news like show, similar to the Capcom episode, every seven to ten days, but with more news segments? Two short news story's from the previous week, maybe with a short interview or an editor's opinion, each done by a different Joystiq editor. Then have a featured storied topic (like Capcom and the state of the Japanese gaming industry) with more in-depth interviews and a round table featuring additional editors.
