Tripwire Interactive has announced a delay for its upcoming World War 2-themed first person shooter sequel Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad. The game, which is a sequel to a title that was originally based on an Unreal Tournament mod, was set to come out at the end of this month, but will instead arrive on September 13. Tripwire says it's using the extra two weeks to "get it right and add the extra polish the game (and the players) deserve."
We're not sure exactly what needs to be tuned up or what notes they want to hit, but we'd imagine the situation at Tripwire HQ lately must sound a little something like this.

Tripwire can have all the time they need. Polish that baby to perfection.

Pre-ordering the game gets you into the beta, so no complaints by me.
I also assume this is more what it looks like at Tripwire right now:

Look out Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3! A few more weeks won't hurt. I've been waiting a long time for this. I'll just play some Killing Floor for a few more weeks.

This is the second postponement. It was supposed to be released in July.
Maybe this will give them time to remove the silly manual rifle reloading feature. This is going to turn off a lot of FPS players. It has no benefit and is actually unrealistic, even though they are claiming it adds to realism. A person who is a professional with a bolt-action rifle isn't going to think about reloading, it will be instinctive. Most modern games will interrupt the reloading of a weapon if one performs a melee attack. This is how it should be handled. Please fix this, guys.

You have to realise the difference from a train modern combat soldier. To a more then likely forced-to-join-a-war-with-no-real-military-training-I'm-really-a-farmer-or-a-shopowner soldier.

Since you will be the one reloading it works itself out. It will become instinctive for YOU over time as the player.

@Keyelite Actually, I have played RO1 and I've even operated one of the higher-rated dedicated servers as well as Darkest Hour. Why must people argue this when manual re-bolting has absolutely no advantage? There is also the fact that if you forget that you've already re-bolted and try to check, you fire your weapon because it's the same button.
TripWire tried to justify it by saying if you fire and then meet someone head-on, you might be re-bolting while they shot you, not being able to use your bayonet. This is a lame explanation because the melee should cancel the re-bolting action, just as it would be REALISTICALLY.

@clapperdude People often try to make games more "realistic", missing the fact that a game can't (as yet) duplicate the real world. So people frown on things like a 3rd-person perspective because they claim it's not realistic. Actually, 1st-person isn't realistic in that you don't have peripheral vision in a game. 3rd-person actually allows you to see things that you'd notice in real life but would miss in a game's 1st-person view.

Like your own ass? Heh sorry Im just goofin. But yea I agree that neither perspective is like 'real life'...but I can't say I think 3rd is closer to it. The problem is unless its fixed you can usually see things you shouldnt like other side of walls/fences, around corners, and other things like that. And if it is fixed it might as well just be 1st person cause then its really just the same but with your character taking up room on the screen. I don't hate 3rd person games tho it just doesn't fit a game like RO. I guess if more games take advantage of multiple monitors (and people actually have them) or in the future a wrap around bendy type screen I suppose then we can get a closer to real peripheral 1st person experience.
But also we were talking about the reload thing and personally I still stand by that being a good edition to a gameplay in RO.

@clapperdude True. It's not exactly the same. But it is close enough that my first thought was of Uncharted 2.

Oh Uncharted...duh I was just looking at the ND logo itself. But yea I see were you are coming from with that now. Tho with the popularity of grunge brushes and putting the # to the right and sub title below I can't say I think it was intentional.

@clapperdude Yeah I meant their game, not the company logo. I should have been more clear, my bad. Haha! I also don't think it was done intentionally, just something I noticed.

Oh and it's 20% off if you own the first one btw so you can get it for as little as $31.99 for the standard edition and you get some bonuses if you own the first as well. :)

I will explain the re-bolting thing using an analogy:
How does one run in a 1st-person shooter? Well, we press only one key and hold it down. This is not very realistic since people have two feet and we actually run by lifting each foot alternately, putting one out in front of the other. So obviously, it would be more realistic to use two keys, one each for the left and right foot. Then we would run simply by alternating between the keys. Heck, we could even alter our running speed by pressing faster on the keys. This is way more realistic, right?
Except for the fact that people don't think about picking up each foot alternately in front of them, they just run. They don't consciously think about it. It's the same concept.
