As any karaoke connoisseur will tell you, the only sure-fire way to win the minds and hearts of your audience is through the hypnotically entrancing black magic of the power ballad. Sony realizes this, and in order to ensure maximum audience mind malleability, it'll be releasing SingStar Back To The 80s sometime before Christmas.
The songpack will feature "30 massive hits" (we're guessing Meatloaf) from the decade of Devo and decadence, although no specific songlist has been released as of yet. Even so, the news has us feeling all nostalgic for the smell of hairspray and Whitesnake's Still Of The Night. If only our oversized glasses, tight jeans, and v-neck t-shirts would come back into fashion, we could... what's that? No. You're kidding.

What the hell guys? The song referenced in the headline came out in 1993. I have never been so disappointed in joystiq in all my life :(

I don't think they care enough to remember the release year of a meatloaf album.

Even though this is WAY out of the 80's, I feel that they could include this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUbxFeqRZwI&ob=av2n
You know they're gonna have some Aqua in any case. Also, I can only look back at Lips "I

@Terrificy I can't actually get to the link on my phone but Aqua is definitely 90's yeah? Either way, Barbie Girl, Cartoon Heroes, and Back to the 80's are all available on the Singstore.

please correct me if i'm wrong...
i think the biggest fail about the singstar games is the proprietary mics. tons of people have rock band or guitar hero mics, but from my understanding, these are not compatible with singstar. i have a closet full of rarely used peripherals that make their way out from time to time when i have a group of friends over, but i don't want to add additional mics that i can only use for a specific game series when i already have 2 microphones collecting dust as is. couldn't they just patch compatibility in the way rock band and guitar hero eventually decided to play nice with one another?

thanks for the responses, guys. that's the last time i listen to a gamestop employee. i was looking through the used games and i asked him about the compatability, and he sounded so definative when he said rockband mics don't work for singstar games that i just went with it. my mistake.
i might have to reconsider picking up a few singstar games on the cheap for party games.

Here's to hoping they include "Never Gonna Give You Up".

@AutobotIronhide Here's to hoping they don't. It's on the Singstore. It'd be nice if the joke of a team at Sony London Studios can actually put out a disc with songs not already on the store that people actually want. The nice thing about the discs is that they actually seem to spend the necessary money to get songs people want.

I love the '80s. Mostly for the games, but also for the chicks with really bad makeup and big hair. And by that I mean Poison and Motley Crue.

I imagine the spaces make it so that you should be reading it like Stevie from Malcolm in the Middle

Pretty awesome for you PS3 owners that you're getting a new karaoke disc. Xbox owners already have an 80's version disc but would definitely buy another!
