I'm actually...kinda diggin' this. I'll admit that I enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 (last good 3d sonic in my opinion, although I didn't play colors), so seeing the 3D gameplay mixed with the classic 2D was pretty cool. Also enjoying the use of the classic music. Also, keep in mind that Sonic games tend to look crappy when someone who sucks is playing because they can't keep up the momentum.
On a related note, I really, really want to punch whoever is playing this demo in the face. Like a lot.

It's SONIC. You RUN quickly. That hasn't changed since 1991.
The sonic dash also doesn't need 10 seconds to be reved.

@ToastyBiggins I really *really* tried to watch this god-awful playthrough all the way to the end, but I just couldn't. Kudos to you for actually having the patience to watch it to the end.
On that note, the game looks nice, but they definitely should not release this particular video to advertise it. Anywhere.

@PR0F3TA At first I thought this guy was a pro because he took the alternate higher path on Chemical Plant zone in the beginning, but watching the rest of it, I was just facepalming at how he was missing beautiful timed platforms that were clearly laid out if you just knew the rhythm of the jumps JUST like classic Sonic.
This game looks amazing because it does what every Sonic game should've, rewarded you for alternate paths. I saw alternate paths riddled all over that would boost your speed. Like in the last part, the guy misses the platforms to the truck and is punished by taking a lower path with a slower bumper and even winding up on the bottom where he would have had to slow down and make all those jumps, instead he missed and died.
Had he made the platforms that weren't destroyed by the truck I guarantee there was an alternate path higher that would make you FLY through that part. I'm very excited for this game based on seeing the beautiful level design in retro and modern views. Good job Sega

I understand that some Sonic fans are still divided on this game; but I believe there is one thing we can all agree on, this player is awful.
I swear I was so close to screaming "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MOOOOVE!" for the first minute. I cringed every time he missed a 1-up. I swear, my little sister could play Sonic better.

Exactly, I mean, I'm not asking for perfection, I understand that everybody makes mistakes, but if you're already taking the time to record this demo, how hard would it be to practice a bit and...you know...try again?
Then they wouldn't look like an idiot, and I wouldn't get a stomach ulcer watching them play Sonic. Boom, everybody wins.

I actually enjoyed the limited demo, even though there were still some things outta place. Thankfully, it was a major improvement over Sonic 4 Episode 1 (they totally gave the rest of the other episodes the finger, didn't they?) whereas Generations at least tries to be a little more faithful to, you know, newtonian physics (inertia says hello).
Things I didn't like in the demo: the control still doesn't respond as perfectly as it did in the Genesis days (why does it seems to be so hard, my GOD!) and sometimes the game got so fast (or blurry, I don't really know what the hell was going on) that I lost track of Sonic himself. At first I was worried that I'm getting old and this is the reason, but after talking to some people who experienced the same thing, I was somewhat relieved.
If Sega addresses these two issues (especially the latter, the former is something I might be able to get used to, it's gonna be the first Sonic game I'm buying since Heroes - I think Sonic Heroes is a good game, despite what people say)

I thought it was just me. Good to hear the screen blur/can't tell where I'm going problem wasn't just isolated to my play of the demo. In fact, I played the demo about 5 times because I was trying to figure out if it was me or the game.
This footage seems like they addressed part of the problem by panning the controller farther from Sonic so you can see more of where you're going ahead of you. Hopefully, this will alleviate the issue.

OMG guys I think they've done it finally! THAT MAGIC IS.....it is there!
When the water started to fill up in chemical, I started having flashbacks.
Also 2dSonic makes the truck zone look hella easy. Probably because he is boss.

Did they fix the physics issue that was in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 that made it impossible to play?

@TheShaper
That's awesome. The abomination known as Sonic 4 needs to be fixed and I hope this game is it. Why they bothered added physics like that to a Sonic game that was supposed to be "retro" and "classic" style is still beyond me.

Thank God. I finally understand what this game is. I was like "Ok. Old Sonic and New Sonic in the same game, but why?" But now I see it's just an excuse to show what the old levels would have been like with new tech and what the new levels would have been like with old tech, while maintaining them in their original form, but with updated graphics.
So it's basically a Sonic HD collection with a huge bonus. I'm fully on board.

I used to replay the City Escape level over and over in SA2 just so I could listen to the song. I'm happy they kept it in. This definitely looks like a step in the right direction for Sonic, but we'll have to wait and see.

Same here. I've always felt like a huge dork for liking that song...but that doesn't make me like it any less. Still on my iPod.

So half of the game is in the classic gameplay style, and half of that isn't just a rehash of Genesis Sonic levels? I guess 25% of a good new Sonic game is better than none at all?

This actually looks like what I've wanted from Sonic. Normally I'd congratulate them, but honestly, 'bout freakin' time guys.
I'll pick this one up for sure.

What makes them think we want sonic on any sort of board?! why the hell would he even need one!?!?
Aside from that it looks pretty good.
P.s who the Hell is driving that truck?!

meaningful trophies please. And as a thank you to whoever is still a fan, have a free DLC released once a certain number of players get a trophy.
Also, be the first game to switch platinum & gold trophies, since gold is now worth more than platinum.
"I got all 5 Platinum trophies in Sonic, WOW!!!"
"But I still cant get the Gold"

I'm gonna go and give Sonic Team a HUGE compliment, especially about the music. Keeping the original tune, but not trying to be the original too hard, not overusing the classic instruments. Also, the level design looks pretty good, and the physics, thought not yet perfect, seem fine as well.
