We're still in the dark about Bungie's next game, but if it's nearly as compelling as the team's current project, "Guess Our Next Game," we're all in for a treat. Today's update comes from Halo.Bungie.Org, which reports that "Be Brave" and "Destiny" (previously trademarked to a dummy corporation owned by Bungie staffers) are now the official property of the company.
But wait, we've got more than legal maneuverings here! Misriah Solutions has put together a wonderfully thorough scouring of the new Bungie vidoc "O Brave New World" filled with plenty of eagle-eyed observations and just a little bit of conjecture.
Also, guys? It's a Call of Duty game. Accept it, embrace it, move on.
[Thanks, Josh.]

I think bungie should just be making one game at the moment.

I hope Bungie are making a great game.
But then i remember there creative thresholds under Activisions hood now. So no matter how hard i try to shake that off im always under the impression they'll become another one of those studios who are trying to make a game they WANT to make. But due to budgets and time constraints make a game they are TOLD to make.
In effect, reminding me of Rare (kindof). Aplogies for how disheartening this opinion is. But it's the truth; or my truth at least.

The only thing is, Activision signed a contract on what Bungie wanted exactly how they wanted it. So if Activision holds even a penny from them, they are in breach of contract & Bungie still owns the rights to the game & can find a new publisher to work with.

Keep in mind, the stated Bungie goal of world domination.
As a dedicated Bungie fan since Pathways into Darkness, I lamented Bungie's sale to microsoft no end. Turns out Bungie got a huge boost in popularity and managed to get out from under microsoft. I'm sure Bungie's "deal with the devil" this time was even more favorable based on the huge success of Halo. Basically, Bungie is using these giant corporations a stepping-stones on their path towards world domination. So far, so good...

Where the heck is this CoD stuff coming from? And if it is CoD it'll be completely different from what we've seen so far!

Call of Duty: Manifest Destiny
From the press release:
Are you ready to experience the 19th century American frontier like never before? In the role of Democratic Senator and frontiersman Porter Price, President Polk has a mission that he can only entrust to, you, his most loyal advocate. In short, America needs room to grow and Mexico isn't doing much with Arizona and California anyway.
Of course, nothing is as easy as it seems, and Price will face deadly opposition from savage Indians, determined Mexicans, rabid animals, and Abraham Lincoln's anti-expansionist assassination squad: The Emancipators. Good thing he won't go empty-handed...
Day one DLC to include:
Small-pox blankets: Throw these on enemies and the effect is almost instantaneous. Also, their kids will probably dies too.
Propaganda leaflet: Turn enemies into fanatical friends!

Has there ever been another unannounced game with this much hype behind it? Not counting stuff like "the next Zelda" or whatnot.

I've always had love for Bungie, going back to the original Marathon days. I still wish I could play a modern-day version of it.
I'm actually looking forward to something new, as I feel Bungie do better when they're making new games instead of pounding out sequels.

Remember my fellow gamers, Activision also published Singularity, which was a a GREAT game. No offense to Raven, but Bungie simply appears to be the superior company, so I have no doubt that they will be able to withstand the evils of Activision too.

One of these games will involve space marines in helmets and the other will involve modern marines in douchey knit caps.

Easy to say no if it's a COD game. Easy to say no if it isn't. For me, Bungie would need to make up for the lackluster Reach and ODST for me to even consider their next title.
Posted: Aug 9th 2011 5:24PM Once known as Shadsy said
@(Unverified) Legitimate, non-accusing question: what did you find lacking about Reach? It's always seemed like it was missing something, but I've poured more time into that game (especially Firefight) than any other one in the series.

I would be happy too. The story is hands-down awful. There is no explanation for how the covenant got to reach, or where the materials came from for the towers. They mention orbital weapon platforms, but there aren't any in the space scenes and never take part in the battle after they kill that one frigate.
The multiplayer isn't fun for me. They added loaouts, but the loadouts can't affect player properties to make true classes. The armor abilities are interesting, but an on demand invulnerability is an awful idea. The sniper, which was the best weapon since Halo 1, was improved, not scaled back, with anti-vehicle properties. Same with the shotgun; it got better range.
The shield pop mechanic is inconsistent. Some weapons (the weaker ones) don't pierce shields, but grenades and all kinds of other weapons do. There isn't a particular rhyme or reason to it.
Speaking of vehicles, the limited HP on them really takes them out of the equation.
The human weapons are still better than the covenant versions, especially in terms of the Focus Rifle and the Repeater. This comes into significant play in matches like Invasion, or Invasion Slayer.
Firefight is fun. I play that the most as well. But for some reason, it isn't as satisfying as Gears 2 Horde. I don't have a specific reason for that. Either way, with all the weird stuff added to Reach plus ODST's unsatisfactory quality, i've moved away from the company.
Needs demo.

I did read it, and I really didn't like it. And the storyline in the book has been retconned to what happened in the game. The story was my biggest gripe, but no book can explain away the gameplay choices that were made. And that goes for any series.
