Video: Modern Warfare 3's new Spec Ops 'Survival' mode

Curious to get a look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's newest cooperative multiplayer Spec Ops mode, dubbed "Survival"? Well, good, because we have a video of it. If you're playing catch up, start with our preview of the Horde slash Firefight slash waves-of-enemies mode from E3.

If you don't feel like reading all that, then we'll do the hard work and explain it to you like this: Kill all the dudes you see, except your buds, survive as long as you can, earn digi-bucks! The video shows two players tag-teaming some "heavily armored ground forces," which is the kind of cooperative teamwork we like to see. It's not just about killing dudes. It's about killing dudes together.

looks decent enough. I enjoyed the spec ops missions in MW2, and I'm not too cool for CoD. I'll prob pick this up

I liked Spec Ops as well, and like the fact that this mode is more open-ended. Both modes are good but sometimes you just want to zone out and see how far you can go with enemies coming from everywhere. And since they're using MP maps, you can learn the maps while you're doing this mode.

I know! A lot of people these days think playing CoD is lame because it's so popular. If you like the game, play it. I hope to see you online.

what difference would it make if there was more years in between? just like battlefield it would be the same aim shoot baddies...

@ansalon929 It'd be easy to troll this, just say something along the lines of "The game's multiplayer is going to be SO bad. You can just tell how much work they're putting into that survival mode because they know the rest of the game is a failure. Good thing we don't need that to succeed, because BF games are so awesome they don't need a survival mode."

perhaps they could use that time to figure more to add to formula rather than shoot baddies, shoot infinite spawning baddies, and shoot baddies in a scripted on rails sequence.

The wonderful Mario Kart excuse, let's put out the same game over and over because it's someone's first Mario Kart. No wonder indie games have become so popular, they are usually free from this obnoxious sequel/rehash cycle

I did buy Onslaught in BFBC2. And it was amazing.

Not saying this doesn't look cool too, but yeah. I just prefer Battlefield for a lot of reasons. Some of us do know that not all CoD players are stupid.

Aren't these a step backwards for a MW game?

Also how come in slow motion the flash is at the top, well above the head, but the explosion is still at ground level?

Whilst we're looking at it, how come the kill icon is a plane?

Heh... I can think of something else the size and shape of a mine that would blow someone up WITHOUT the need for an AC130 to be flying overhead.

Can anyone guess what that might be?

I see many hours playing this mode.

Looks kinda fun, but it feels like they're dodging the question. You have a Wave Survival mode, we get it, but how is the main MP? That is the thing most people want to know about.

Because they don't need to sell the consumer on MP. They know the MP will sell, so they are advertising SP and Coop modes.

@madforaday Seems rather smug of them considering people ARE beginning to question whether or not the MP is fresh enough to buy, or just an overpriced map/texture pack. But then again, maybe it's a good thing they're being smug, since MP can be updated and changed after release, but people tend to get mad for whatever reason if you tweak SP at all, and their feeling of safety in MP makes them want to work on SP more and make it good. And a good SP is good for everyone. Not to mention their refinement of the Survival mode that everyone loves. We shall see come 11/8...

@Jetleo1 Let the guys who are going to Call of Duty XP answer that. Joystiq has a high probability of being there anyways.
