It's not the best quality footage, but Capcom's done us all a solid and uploaded 32 minutes of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City gameplay, direct from its Comic-Con booth. Honestly, we feel pretty bad for the zombies. These Umbrella operatives are strapped to the nines, and with giant Hunters running around, it seems it just isn't safe for a zombie to wander the streets at night any more.

It reminds me of L4D but at least resident evil is amping up the zombie aspect of the series, i mean when it came to zombies, RE5 didn't do anything, I enjoyed it but angry African tribals was a little weird

Exactly. For some reason RE was the only game series not allowed to change, per the "fans". Zelda isn't far behind though.
That said, looking forward to see what they do with Revelations and RE6. Just keep giving us excellent games.

No it's an opinion. I wouldn't classify RE4 or 5 as pure survival horror, but they are certainly GREAT games, and most definitely RE games at that. Here I'll help you understand how they fit together since you think RE4 is a "new ip" or some nonsense.
RE0-3--Starts and finishes the story arc of the Virus outbreak and Raccoon City's demise. Begins the STARS VS Umbrella story arc.
CVX-RE4: From a storyline standpoint the weakest in the entire arc, but they set up the cllimax.
RE5: Everything that has been building from RE0 comes to a head in what appears to end the Umbrella vs STARS story arc. Interested to see where they go with RE6.
Oh, you can keep your archaic static camera angles, Dead Space proved those are no longer needed for survival horror.

Oh I get what you are saying. Resident evil is defined only by its static camera system. & therefore yeah the series died and no one even plays parts 4 or 5 anymore.
Wait. What?? I'm sorry, please sell crazy somewhere else. Sweet Mary I am effing tired of all the "I want an old RE" belly aching.

I still don't get all the negativity over This game for being different.
This isn't a actual "canon" game which is one of the reasons why it's taking a more action approach.
Back when Mercenaries 3D was coming out capcom said they have 2 fanbases to aim for now. The Action crowd and the horror crowd.
Mercs 3D and this are obviously for the action crowd.
However the upcoming Revelations and rumored RE6 are going back to the survival horror roots.
Besides that I think this looks pretty cool. Honestly I'd rather have RE Outbreak 3 for my coop resident evil fix but this is fine.

Sorry I'm over playing these games solely for their brand name and frankly I'm almost over playing games that are repeatedly defined as "fine". "Fine" as I've come to notice defines a boring unimaginative but playable game that isn't worth my time in this crowded market of games.
This game in particular looks like the stagnating Capcom once again reaching out to a Western dev to take their IP and make a western shooter out of it. The gritty Megaman third person cover shooter is coming I can feel it!

Fighting hordes of zombies and other crazy monsters wasn't enough so they have to throw team deathmatch in there, I love TDM in certain game but devs have to think of new ways to do multiplayer rather than relying on deathmatch like a crutch.

Capcom is on such a stinking streak lately. First they cancel Megaman 3 due to "lack of interest" Then they outsource DmC to Ninja Theory of all developers...and now this. Crapcom is really sucking lemons as of late.

I was a bit weary on RE5, but at least that game turned out pretty fun, and had mostly well lit environments which I happened to like as opposed to what I see in this game where it's difficult to make out anything since it's all so dark.
Watching this video though, it looks terrible. With 4 player CO-OP, I doubt it's even possible to add in any form of a storyline or objectives that aren't just running around and killing everything in sight mindlessly.

I'm open-minded with the direction, provided it remains an off-shoot. I mean let's face it, it's not like the series is some beacon of integrity (I don't see how this'd be any more egregious than another gun survivor title, or better yet, another Game.com entry). It could be fun.
That said, a lot of the gameplay has looked pretty robotic and clunky so far. This is reminding me more of a budget-tier, Lead & Gold kind of title than any full priced release. I know they have plenty of time to polish it up, but there are games out there like Bioshock Inifinite and Tomb Raider which already look a LOT better and are even further off into the future.

I truly don't understand why everyone hates this. IT WON'T COME OUT FOR ANOTHER 5 MONTHS! watching a game and playing it are two COMPLETELY different things. I swear, capcom is a company that is damned if they do, damned if they don't. they try to do something new in terms of game play in a resident evil game, people hate them. if they make a up-dated remake of a old fighting game, people hate them. they try to patch a game that people see as "un-balanced" people hate them.
how do you completely hate a game that hasn't even came out yet?
this is why a lot of companies are AFRAID to try ANYTHING NEW because people want the same old thing.

Admittedly i've always wanted an open world Resident Evil game based around Racoon City. But i've always imagined it with features such as destruction i'd find in games like Battlefield 3, alongside a decent story line (which is why i thought RE would be the first) and some badass back-to-back 2/4 player co-op.
That and it has to be alot more "survivor" based. Which is why im liking the look of Dead Island admittedly. Theres no real fear when you have Melee only enimies and plentiful ammo. Becomes a run n gun.

God I hate Resident Evil purists.
Someone earlier in this comments section says that RE4 is a great game, but it's "not Resident Evil." Really? The box tells me it is.
I hate to be so immature, but eat balls, RE purists. Every game can't be Resident Evil freakin' 1. I can't remember ever hearing a group of fans complain as much as RE purists do about an AWESOME GAME (which RE4 is, plain and simple).

people say because it as nothing to do with zombies. RE4 is a good game, perfecting RE 0-3,OB,and CV camera, having a big suitcase to hold items, and having great moments. but re5 was the worst, they change Chris Redfield looks, only 9 slots for your items, adding Sheva Alomar to the game so RE5 was not racist and so on.
To me RE2 is the best game and I'm going to get this game to try it out and if I like it i'll play it more.

I enjoyed RE4 and this looks like i probably will enjoy it too but (and i may be the minority) i would like to see an updated "old style" RE with pre rendered backgrounds,Tyrants/zombies,emphasis on ammo conservation, enviornmental puzzles and labyrinth like level design where you need to find items and figure out where to use them to access deeper parts of sections.
Also they could do away with the "clockwork" turning style of characters and have them full analog.
I like the newer games but they just arent the same anymore, more of third person shooters than survival horror.
/end rant

I don't get why everyone is hating on this. Yes, the original resident evils were awesome but honestly have a slow paced survival horror gets boring. If a city were infected like Raccoon city it would be fast paced and you won't be able to stop to relax or anything. Capcom might have done a horrible job on RE5's survival aspects but it's a good game and a good storyline. The only thing I don't get is the story line for this game. If the operatives come in contact with Leon or Claire it F-up the story hopefully they don't do that.

@Strik3ud0wn The first part of your post tells me that you are one of those, "Let me play CoD / Halo." kind of people. Or maybe you had a hard time with the original games (if you even played them). Choose one.
The original REs was what defined the series, and also defined the survival horror genre. The "older" generation wants those back, but sales dictate the need for crap like RE5 and... this wannabe-L4D-with-a-few-tricks -- we already have enough of these from other devs.
But hey, what can you expect from a good-turned-evil company such as *cough* Crapcom *cough*?
RIP Resident Evil, you had a good run.

Well I guess you can't read I loved the previous Resident Evils I actually own all of them. If you read I said that RE5 was fun but didn't hit the survival horror. As for being a COD/Halo fanatic I hate but I mean I hate those games with all that I have and I don't own a 360 because it's an inferior system. But like I said before yes the games are awesome but that a closed environment in a building or complex. This is open streets explain how a city that gets infected you won't have to survive the way the gameplay is. So please watch what you say and the only flaw Capcom has is that keep bringing out the same game multiple times.

To be honest what Capcom should have done is keep the core gameplay of the original REs the puzzles the indoors and the "OH SHIT" moments. Put the over the shoulder camera to have a better view of things. Most importantly keep the zombies and since you have more freedom with the over the shoulder view give the zombies, B.O.W.s, and tyrants more health or add a few more to make it interesting.
