Usually, we think of making first-person shooter videos as the domain of dorm dwellers with too much time and not enough party invitations or, well, that chocolate milk kid. But, as you know, Activision has talked about bringing some actual adults into the field with Call of Duty Elite video content. Now we've gotten our first peek at that roster of "Hollywood talent," which includes Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and directors Ridley Scott (as in Blade Runner) and Tony Scott. Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed the names while speaking at the Pacific Crest Global Technology Leadership Forum.
As reported by USA Today, Hirshberg said, "Just like any other passion that people spend a lot of their free time doing, Call of Duty players share a common language and a common experience and we think we can create some entertainment content that they will love and talk about and share."
We're assuming USA Today accidentally left "on YouTube" off at the end there.

Ok, I am confused. Are these Hollywood Talents lending their voices to characters or are they just providing design input on the game?

@YakuzaElite
I 'think' they are doing short films.. for the Elite website... I don't quite understand it either.
they should just focus on the game if you ask me.. and this Elite thing should be free. I think this content is supposed to somehow make the cost seem necessary.

I don't get it, but with giant names like those associated with Call of Duty Elite, I will probably sign up for it!

Scott Free Productions no doubt. Who knows if Ridley or Tony will actually direct anything. I'm gonna say no. It's possible as Ridley is a pretty good commercial director, but I kind of doubt it.

Kinda sucks for the Scott bros, nobody is going to be paying attention to what they make for Elite, as everyone who cares enough to pay for Elite, which you have to do to watch the series, would either be playing the games or studying their stats for a bit and THEN going off to play the games.

@eat it Gamers, yes. People in love with CoD enough to pay for it's special service? Too busy playing the game to watch the series. The Scotts have a hellacious pedigree, but it'll be leaked versions of the series on YouTube and such that will get watched most. The people who are willing to pay for Elite most likely would use it and get back to playing CoD and skip the episodes. If you're paying for a game service, you most likely are going to play it every chance you get. I know I'll watch the episodes when they're leaked (Guys made Gladiator? I CAN'T pass it up), as will many others, just not the Elite members the show is made for since they'll be ingame.
TL:DR - If you pay for Elite, there's a 70% chance you spare no time for anything besides 360 Noscope Headshots.

@gangcar I already know the show will be epic...too bad the people they're making the show for (Elite paying subscribers) will most likely skip over the episodes in favor of getting back to their favorite game. Luckily, the rest of us who DO want to watch it have YouTube. Come on Scott brothers, let's see what you can do with Call of Duty.

You know, I'm still not sure Hollywood talent translates into video game-making prowess.

@TUROK1134 Let's see here...Quake 3, TFC, CoD2, Tribes, early Battlefield...basically every shooter before CoD4 made everything easy was devoid of the whiny badmouthed 10 year olds we have today. Too bad I didn't have a PC yet, I missed an epic gaming era...

right and this improves the game play and the way its played howww???? how at all would this benfit me in-game?? cod is a game right?? so instead of making a new engine to make the game better looking and better game play you hire hollywood directors to tart videos up? right.. yer i see the logic here... (being sarcastic btw ) lmfao :L

@eat it Actually, apple DOES suck at marketing.
"If you don't have the app store, you don't have the thousands of apps on it."
Me: "Oh really, well show me what I'm missing."
(Goes on to show just how easy it is to download a Flight booking app on a $1000 1gb/s connection)
Me: "Umm, couldn't you just use the built in browser to book the flight? And besides, if you're going to take a plane, wouldn't you book it WAY beforehand at home on your computer? Besides, how many people fly so often it warrants a mobile phone app?"
"iPhone - now $99 (with a 5 year contract, by the end of which we'll have released 7 more phones, all marginally better than yours and all $300 until the price drops when the next one releases) with a network."
Me: "That's it? No game demos, no useful apps, just a plane ticket buyer and some fine print? Psssht."
Let's not forget the biased PC vs Mac commercials that went over how Mac was good while skipping how it sucked AND also said all PCs were afflicted with issues that only happen if you abuse your computer for years...PC: "I'm all work, no play." Mac: "And I'm ALL party!" (Said at a time when mainly only Flash games could run on Mac)
Steve Jobs needs to hire a better marketer...

Haha as if any COD players even know who Ridley Scott is.

@Excessive
if he is filming commercials or videos I don't think it will matter if you recognize his name. they are paying the man for quality directing that will resonate with a younger crowd
he made alien, blade runner, gladiator, robin hood, hannibal, black hawk down ... and his brother has done a bunch of pretty cool movies too, man on fire, domino ... pretty sure they'll be able to do something that's cool

Riddley Scott is a brilliant director. He did the original Aliens and Gladiator. Only mentioning Blade Runner is kind of lame.

Seeing as Blade Runner is widely (and rightfully) agreed to be his best film, I would think it makes perfect sense.

I think this is pointless people I know who play cod just play cod maybe after 5 or so months of hardcore playing they might give red dead redemption a go for 5 or so mins but then it will be back to cod well maybe not but you get my point cod players want to play cod but being a halo fan I think this would be a awesome idea for halo because you know tv/film/wtf is this needs a story which halo has got.
