If you tend to stick to the trees of Strength and Skill in the Fable series, you'll be out of your element in the series' Kinect-based installment, Fable: The Journey. In an interview with OXM, Peter Molyneux explained the player's bag of tricks would be limited strictly to magic. He added, "We could have done melee weapons, but the one thing I hate about melee weapons, and guns as well, is that the human brain is encoded to expect recoil from those things."
Molyneux said that satisfying that expectation of physical feedback was necessary, and that "visuals and the sound isn't enough." It's that weakness that makes the game's robust magic system work. Molyneux explained, "The thing about magic is there's nothing encoded in your mind about how it should feel." That's true! The only preconception we have in mind about magic is that it probably requires a lot of gesticulation; something we know for a fact the Kinect excels at.

Wait for him to announce this was all some big misunderstanding and that there will be swords and guns, he just disabled it for these parts because he wanted to show things off, and now he'll all have us sign a big erasable white board saying "THERE WILL BE WEAPONS IN JOURNEY".

I'm still waiting for that acorn I planted in Fable 1 to grow into a tree
It is nice though how all the enemies in Fable The Journey stand around waiting to be killed, we'll have enough problems flailing our arms wildly

Man, simulated horse carriage-riding sounds THRILLING. But at least they're laying it all out instead of making unrealistic promises where the game itself turns out to be nothing like the hype.

Kind of happens when you make false promises for every game you release. For being famed in the industry, he is known for not delivering on initial promises. Also as many have highlighted his denial that this game will be on rails, when in fact it everything points to it being exactly that.

Well, I assume that it's wrong around here to say if you are looking forward to a game that most are not.
It looks fun to me. Casting magic spells with natural gestures on Kinect just sounds like a good fit. I'm not going to bash the game when I haven't even gotten my hands on it.

.. I think I just realized I've been fooled for years.
First, he promises things that never see the light of day in a game series called "Fable".
Then, there is a game where you supposedly are riding a horse. My money is on the fact you actually ride said horse longer then you're supposed to, then you beat it to death when it doesn't want to anymore (not with melee weapons, mind you, but with magic), and when said horse is finally dead you keep poking and poking at it. Also with magic, I presume. It's kind of like how they poked fun of the ending of Fable II in Fable III. Instead of, oh hmm lets see.... FIX THE PROBLEMS OF FABLE II BEYOND THE F*****G ONE BUTTON BOSS FIGHT.
Oh and feedback is an issue? So riding in a carriage is as smooth as butter then?

The journey should have been a small part in a Fable game, not a game on it's own. I like the idea of the horse and cart, had it been available in Fable 3 to outrun...something.
The fact that they are removing a satisfying element to this game due to lack of physical feedback should have clued them in to this.

@Mustang Fanboy Pet the horse? Why would you do that? You gotta do what I did when I played Black and White. I beat the shit out of my tiger! Black and White was cool until you actually had an AI opponent. I couldn't do the stuff I thought was interesting, like tossing villagers around and trying to get my tiger to eat them, AND deal with an enemy. It just wasn't happening.

I was fine with the glowing foam sword mode in Wii Sports Resort with no feed back as well. I facepalmed when I saw the article title, but for a different reason (Thought we had another case like MML3 on our hands when it wasn't the case this time)

You can put in or leave out whatever you want, Molyneux. I'm not interested in the slightest either way. I loved the possibilities of what you could have done with the Fable franchise, and when you decide to take everything you've learned from the previous installments and fix what was obviously wrong with it, I might buy your products again. Until then you can take what seems like a gimmicky tech demo and send it to the bottom of the well where you threw Milo in.

Define 'excels'. Maybe my room lighting isn't right, or the spacing isn't right, or something. Or maybe I haven't played enough Kinect games... But Kinect Adventures is kinda wonky.
Sigh. I'm looking forward to making my first standalone game purchase. As soon as something tempting comes along...

I'm pretty sure I could expect my hands to feel hot if I conjured a fireball. Maybe he should remove magic until they create heated controllers.
This guy had so much potential two decades ago. He's been overdosing on pretension pills ever since Black and White was only about 15% as good as everybody said it was. I'm not sure why he's still regarded as important.
