Hello, $99 3DS, I'll be seeing you at GameSpot tomorrow. This is insane - I have a DSi, and two lites (lost one, bought another, found lost one)... I think I'll buy two extras and sell them on eBay for $155! :D

FYI, Best Buy will give you $92 for a fair condition FAT DS, so that makes it $70-78 with trade in, in better condition than working with obvious dings and scratches. Time to find a cheap, old, fat DS on craigslist!

$92 for a fat DS???! That doesnt sound right. A new dslite is only $99 new most places.

Lol. Where the hell did you get that number from? It's $8.00 cash, $12.00 for a gift card.

The $92 trade in credit at Best Buy is for a 3DS in fair condition.

You're both right, actually. I checked, and putting in an order for a regular DS in "Fair" condition brought a bid for $92 credit. But after placing the order (good god, like I'd say no!), the listing changed to a 3DS.

It was obviously an error, or some quirk of the pricing system. Why else would putting it in at "Good" condition bring up a lower bid (at only $15)? Was worth a look, anyway.

@naginalf - Best Buy is doing a very similar trade-in until sometime in late August:

DSi XL - $100
DSi - $75
DS lite - $50

@Peril - I can't find a link on their site, but I work there, and the news popped up in our employee news section. Swing by a store and ask a gaming employee.

kicks himself for getting rid of his dslite at gamestop years ago for $75 because he liked his psp more... oh well... the 3DS isn't worth it yet with it's current crappy battery life for me but don't let that stop you people with ds's from trading in your old ones...

So when an insanely awesome game is released you still won't get it because of the battery life?

On 3 conditions... if it's a really really reallllyyyy awesome and if it has great replay value, and if it's not a rehash of something I enjoyed 10 or more years ago. Then and only then will I get one before the inevitable better battery life version. Oh and Mario Kart might tempt me but that's a maybe...

Sorry....no sale for me. I still loves me my XL (& hell my custom-cased DSlite, for that matter).

There's still nothing worth my interest on the 3DS to warrant me coughing up more money to Nintendo. The system price drop don't mean much of shit when you still considerably poor-piss lack of games for it.

When the games come (or that smexy 'Flare Red' version, like Japan got), that's when I'll consider it.

Uh no....not next month either.

I have other things on my 'gaming agenda' the next few months & unfortunately the 3DS is not one of them, right now. Even if games drop in coming months--for the 3DS, that doesn't mean it's gonna magically leap-jump to the top of my 'must buy' list. It just means I'd more likely to seriously consider getting it sooner when I feel like it, that's all.

Well you did say you'd consider it when the Flare Red one dropped, and that would be next month.

Well, for one, you're gonna have to show me some link about 'Flare Red coming out next month'.....

Secondly, 'yes' while I did say I'd 'consider it'--nowhere did I say I'd automatically 'buy it' just like that, even if the Flare Red did come out next month.

Considering something does not equate actually going out and purchasing it right then & there--it just means it's something I'll keep in mind for the future.

You must have been one of those people saying this same exact thing after the original DS came out, because there were a lot of you. Now that you've had that "bottled" up inside for the last 5 years, it must feel good to let it out. But you'll be wrong. Again.

It's too bad my DSLite has weathered quite a bit in the last few years. The poor thing has a broken hinge, scratched up shell, glitchy screen, and a unresponsive L-button. It has a lot of sentimental value for me, sadly GameStop doesn't accept sentimental value as a currency of trade.

yeah, in the future, electronics will be much larger and bulkier. people will not be able to carry them around. computers will take up entire rooms.

Are these things selling that terribly?

But no, I can't trade my DS Lite for a 3DS. It just isn't quite there. Maybe once Nintendo releases the inevitable revised version, but not now.

But what if there isn't a revised version? I remember some Nintendo executive a few articles back that stated that the 3DS is as compact as it could be. I guess there can be hope in terms of redesign. :/

I won't expect a redesign for a few more years, and by then the library of games are going to be great. The only thing the 3DS needs is a better battery,if the tech can catch up maybe we'll see some Nintendo licensed batteries.

Revision doesn't have to always be about making the system smaller, the 3DS is small enough as it is. If I'm reading correctly, it's basically the same size as a lite and only weighs a tiny bit more. So even if the technology allowed them to be more compact, I don't think it's necessary.

A revision that included a better battery, maybe weighed a tiny bit less and added one or two fancy things like the DSi did would be worth buying. But I don't see that coming anytime in the near future unless Nintendo decides to rush it out.

However, the 3DS is starting off much better than the DS did in terms of hardware and software so once we get past the negative press I think it will do fine.

For me, it's that battery life. It isn't good enough for what I need it to do.

Wait, did anyone catch the way this article was written? In the first paragraph, it states the "catch" is that we have to have a Power-up pro member and a coupon for trade-in. We have to trade in a human being in order to get a discount? How barbaric!

I thought about trading my DSi XL in for this deal, but realized I'd only be playing DS games (and maybe Zelda). I'd have a crappier battery life, smaller screens, and a silly gimmick to show for it.

No thanks, keep your busted first run, Nintendo. Hit me up on the expected second or third revision.
