Xbox Live Rewards glitch awarding extra MS Points

Either there's something wrong with the Xbox Live Rewards program, or it has become very, very rewarding indeed. Reports have been circulating today that Xbox Rewards members have been receiving an extra helping of MS Points in their Xbox Live accounts. Just how big an extra helping? Well, that seems to vary, along with exactly which members are getting the excess points.

We can confirm that at least some Rewards members are definitely getting extra points, as two of our own staff members found their accounts overflowing with Microsoft space bucks earlier today. In one case, as evidenced by the image after the break, the same amount of points was deposited a whopping seven times.

Microsoft is currently "investigating" the issue.

I just talked to MS when I noticed that my account had jumped a little over 5000MS. The rep told me that the promo points have been escalated and the matter will be resolved within 72 hours. I ask what they were doing if I had already spent them. The reps answer was that MS is planning on handling the matter is five phases.

1- If the points weren’t spent then they are just going to remove them from the accounts that got them.
2- If the points were spent leaving a zero or negative balance of points and there is a credit card on file, then they are going to bill for the points used.
3- If there is no credit card on file, they plan on sending out an E-mail “demanding” payment.
4- If there is no credit card on file and the “demand” for payment goes unanswered then they “may” subtract months of gold membership that equal the amount of points used.
5- If there is still a negative balance then they plan on banning the console and the account until it is no longer negative. This one she said at least three times.

ONLY Philip (^PS) is stating that you can keep the points. The rest of the tweet team is saying that they have no info on the situation. And as it was pointed out earlier, they are already removing the points, even putting some accounts in a negative balance.

Ouch. If you got extra points you weren't supposed to, looks like you lose since you'll have to pay for whatever you bought. In case you were going to buy it anyways, then you still win!

This makes me wish this was available in Canada :(

@King Johngie the Fourth - It is. It launched up here a couple of weeks ago.

My Rewards account has shown that it's in the course of being activated ever since it launches though, which is annoying.

I remember when there was a glitch (dealing with the rewards system) and everyone was getting points like crazy. Then MS fixed it next morning. I was going to do the glitch to keep getting points, but figured I shouldn't cause I'll get banned. They ended up never banning anyone though lol.

I was given 240 points 6 times today. I'm debating whether I should spend the points ASAP to empty out my account so MS can't take them out.

I added 400 points to the 1440 points I was given and picked up From Dust and the Def Lepard Rock Band pack.

(I had like 300 points in my account before the start of the day)

Heh, I got a cool 1100 or so points, told a friend he should check his account as well. I had more than enough to grab Shadow Planet.

He only had 10 points. Those 10 points have been on his account for a whiiiiiiile.

To those who did get points, enjoy! Seeing as MS has some pretty tight pockets I think the points you're seeing right now are a lot more than you'll be able to "earn" in the rewards program in the future.
