@Khaos EXACTLY because of the stuff they have to mess with map size, player count, will there be the same, fewer, or just say screw jets on the console versions.
@Khaos They were confirmed for Consoles a while ago, but I have a feeling that the 24 player cap and small maps are going to make it this game a huge disappointment :/ Like all the PC fan boys whining that MW3 only shows console game play, yeah because it is the lowest version of the game and it still looks great, whereas here they are showing the highest version at the highest settings and sure it looks great but at least show some Xbox or PS3 online game play.
@iceytoa1 Didn't they just show PS3 gameplay? Did you not see the co-op? The PS3 will be at a lower res and will have less textures, but overall, it will look the same.
@iceytoa1 Battlefield: Bad Company 2 had 24 player limit on consoles, and I don't remember that game being a disappointment. :) I'm sure you, and everyone else, will be just fine.
It might not be a bad thing if the jets weren't in the console version. If it is like every other Battlefield game after 1942, the planes/helicopters will be too overpowering. Get a really good pilot and the game becomes really lame.
Spawn. Random death from above. Spawn. Random death from above. Spawn.
Console players are looking for a COD clone that isn't COD because they think Activision is evil. They are probably better off making a COD clone because hamstringing in jets into small maps with fewer players is going to make it lame for consoles.
I don't think it is. The only reason i say that is because of that blur effect. Now unless they were able to put it on the console versions, then yes i would agree. But i'm fairly certain that this is still PC footage we're looking. Not to sound like a dick or anything, it's just i remember the devs talking about what they needed to take out of the console versions in order for it to run at 1080p. Blur effect being one omission.
"yeah because it is the lowest version of the game and it still looks great"
If you consider running at a sub-HD resolution with blurry textures, red jam, and relatively crappy alpha effects (smoke as well as water) visually stunning, then yes...yes the Modern Warfare games look fantastic on the consoles.
There are multiple reasons why DICE has made the decision to show off footage taken from the PC build. 1) The PC is EA's most profitable platform, and showing off that the game is using the more advanced, powerful hardware in the platform's arsenal will draw PC gamers into making a purchase. Showing console-only footage (ala COD) tells PC gamers that they will be getting a PC port (most likely a sloppy one) outside of a few minor image quality enhancements (AA, AF, the ability to run at a native resolution exceeding 1280x720) and performance (higher framerate); if they're getting a port that takes near 0 advantage of their more powerful (and, more importantly, expensive) hardware investment which will almost assuredly have crippled or non-existent post release support at best (think of how many game release useful DLC for consoles but none for the PC), why would they feel inclined to buy it?
2) The footage that has been released is also meant to show what Frostbite 2 is capable of pulling off on contemporary hardware in real time. This is of no importance to you or me, but it's incredibly relevant to EA (which owns DICE). By providing a working real world example of cutting edge middleware, EA's hoping to lure other developers into coming under its corporate umbrella (Zenimax is/will be essentially doing the same thing with iD Tech 5 following the acquisition of iD). It also allows EA to cut development costs by getting developers to use its middlware as opposed to licensing alternatives like UE3.
"sure it looks great but at least show some Xbox or PS3 online game play."
We've seen console footage; it looks comparable to Bad Company 2 with ever so slightly better lighting.
@iceytoa1 I love how you showed how Battlefield 3 cheated to make people think it looks better by showing PC gameplay, and all the Battlefield 3 fanboys downvoted you.
Not sure why people downvoted my original comment. Shadow is correct, I was referring to flight joysticks, since BC2 on PC had joystick support and the ps3 and 360 have two stick to choose from, it would be a nice addition.
I'm getting BF2 on PC. I don't care if I'm "supporting an evil service" or not. It's just my opinion; I don't feel like I'm playing Robin Hood by not giving Origin. Plus, you get a free game for the preorder. For me, it's just a minor inconvenience (plus, playing BF2 on steam, you have to sign into an EA account anyways). Just my 2 cents, I feel like there''s no risk of me losing my nobility by doing this.
I know you mean BF3, but plenty of people will be getting the PC version. Just ignore those people who say they will boycott the game, because they'll buy it anyway.
Unfortunately I will not be getting the PC version this year, because I'm not upgrading my PC until Enhanced Bulldozer (Socket FM2) and AMD 7000 series come out. So your tags will be safe until mid 2012, but PS3 player beware, your tags are mine!
@psnkillstrike Don't expect it to be. There's 40 less players in any given game. Yeah, smaller maps, but that doesn't make it better. My friends and I realized that smaller maps + smaller player caps + wide variety of vehicles = 12 to 15 people in vehicles and 9 to 12 people on foot. That does not sound fun.
"Hey let's get to the flag. Nevermind I got bombed. Ok respawned. Nevermind I got tanked. Ok respawned. Nevermind TV-Guided rocket. Screw it I'll stand at the uncap and wait for a vehicle like everybody else."
I don't want to spend the money to upgrade my PC and I don't want a gimped BF3, so I might just end up buying MW3 for 360 and callin it a day.
You really don't think they are going to balance the game? You know the only effort the are putting into the console version is not just making the maps smaller right? I'm sure they will take into account the number of vehicles they want to spawn, and many jets there will be, and give infantry weapons to combat air targets that were better then BC2. I have faith they are going to balance the console games just like they are going to balance the PC version. It would be shooting themselves in the foot not too.
I dunno. BC2 had that player cap and I've had my most intense video game experiences on PS3 with that game. I'm sure that this will be like that. As a matter of experience, playing nearly any game, namely BF2 with 64 players, or even just BC2 on PC with up to 32, it gets almost too hectic sometimes.
There's a veeeeery fine line between it being just perfect, and way too much. Taking a step out of your spawn and getting shot by 1 of 47 wookies is kind of that step over. :P
@TreeFoxx Well, I would imagine if they lower the playercaps they would also lower the number of vehicles available to avoid exactly what you're describing. However, waiting at the spawn for vehicles has been an issue with the Battlefield series since the very first game 1942 came out: http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2009/07/17
SCREW YOU JETS. I hate those bombing bastards, always stopping my team just one click short of a capture. Cool that they're back though, I'll just have to play more AA.
@FriedConsole In P4F they had AA turrets that dropped them in 2 rockets/one reload. I loved those things...if they have them BF3 I will cry for joy though because those things were A) Really useful to the whole team (Nobody likes getting bombed) and B) Great point farms since you get vehicle damage/destroy points and kill points.
Built on the cutting-edge Frostbite 2 technology, Battlefield 3 aspires to be DICE's best shooter and biggest launch yet. Expect improved graphics, louder explosions and more smithereens. So many smithereens.
