This keeps looking better and better. It may never be the DMC I wanted, but if it's looking worth my time in its own right. Can't wait to see actual, continuous, gameplay.

I'm pretty much sold on the gameplay front by now, but I'm curious about the story. Professional cinematic storytelling is pretty much Ninja Theory's forte, so I'm anticipating much better writing than the previous DMC titles.

I mean, we've established in the past two videos that the combat's classic DMC, which is all well and good, but now I'm just more and more interested in seeing what's new and different.

@Don Cheeto Which is exactly why I want to see live gameplay demonstrations. I want to see how the game unfolds, not just snips of combat and story sequences edited together.

Actually, there appears to be a huge difference between the older DMCs and this one in terms of combat. Older DMCs have attacks that usually cover front and one side for standard combos, and a special combo may cover all sides, but will leave the player wholly vulnerable after completion.

In this trailer it seems like Dante is "safe" in most of his attacks. The blade moves extremely fast and it moves in wide arcs leaving most sides covered. The directionality seems to only occur when the player executes a powerful attack.

Additionally, the emphasis on air combos leaves the player in "safety" for extended periods of time. In older DMCs air time was limited by your combos (unless you were extremely skilled) and as a result you had to rely on "unsafe" ground combos. The lack of safety was what distinguished DMC from God of War and I'd hate to see that go.

Of course all these things may just be visual flairs and may not count towards the hitbox, but I'll have to play the game first to see it. Also, the gun and Devil-bringer-esque wire is kinda cool.

I actually had faith in the gameplay from the beginning but I reaaaaally trashed the game for the new aesthetics. Now that I got to watch some real gameplay, I'll shut up for the time being and admit that I'm curious about the plot as well. I still would have DMC5 over DmC, but well, that's better than nothing (not to mention that even though I liked Nero, DMC4 plot was pretty lame)

I really, REAAAALLY hope you're reading too much into it. I definitely wouldn't like to see my DMC (which not as much "mine" as it used to) to turn into God of War. We have enough of those clones already.

I never got too much into GoW to be honest. I tried the first one right after beating DMC3 for the first time and was a complete turn off.

You forgot to mention a fun fact proving this is a complete reboot.

http://www.siliconera.com/2011/08/16/dmc-devil-may-cry-dante-is-half-devil-and-half-angel/
Dante is half angel, half demon, and the stretchy sword of his that completely mimics Heavenly Sword is the new Rebellion.

Ironically, the original Devil May Cry was slower than this. It's only with the sequels, which completely changed what Devil May Cry represented, that the games became about fast-paced crazy combos.
So the combat here isn't particularly slow (and it's not such a big deal even if it is a little slow; the original is still great because it's the most challenging in the series and has far more variety in enemies and their attacks). What worries me is that 1) it looks pretty easy to pull off those combos and 2) the enemies seem to be complete fodder. Enemies were significantly fodderised in the sequels to Devil May Cry, but I'm worried that this might take it further.

Interesting that you posted negative comments on the siliconera article as well - do you just follow DMC posts around the internet? Is your hatred of this game that strong that you have made it your life's goal to stalk and slander it?

If so, you have a promising career in tabloid journalism ahead of you.

Music/Sound is awesome,
Loved the Nalepa Monday Mix that was used in their trailer.

Dante's new look is something I love, but most
fans want that Geezer long haired version...

Gameplay is fast. If you lay off the drugs, then things might come back to normal speed you know...

@Arturis so ?

sure dmc was its a eternal experiment game dmc1 i remember it was a mess remember fighting that dam spider again and again, but then its improved and polished gameplay from dmc3 and dmc4.

One thing have in common in all those games its that dante looked and acted like a badass, so changing the foundation of a serie and making the main guy become a gay, emo looking, drug adddict and less badass its not good, what its worse its that you have to improve the gameplay, something that i dont see with this all trailer or teaser

if they remake dmc1 and stay with the same gameplay i wouldnt buy it neither, since for today standards its just bad even hideki kamiya its not convinced for what NT its doing and the fans have a reason to complain.

@eilegz I agree with you. I was genuinely bored watching this trailer. It seems like the charming "ridiculous" factor of the old series has been blunted by this unnecessarily serious new aesthetic.

For me, Devil May Cry was always about the weird, furious and often times hilarious tone (in accordance with how ridiculous it became), not about the depth of it's story and characters. It's the kind of indulgence that feels just right, where as this new rendition seems like it's trying awfully hard to be tragically hip and cinematically serious. I'm sure there will be attempts at humor, but the kind that blindly assumes it's funny way before articulating

Every time I see something new about this I keep getting more disappointed. I'm not hating on the game, since it seems pretty solid, it's just not what I expect from a Devil May Cry. I seriously hope I end up mistaken and for this to be all kinds of kickass, but for now I'm just not interested.

@Lucky48 well they could have just abandoned DMC altogether. I think Ninja Theory has the know how to make this game special. While people have their gripes about Heavenly Sword and Enslaved, for the most part those games were pretty dope imo. Maybe they'll prove all the fans afraid of change wrong.

I'm playing through Enslaved right now. Wonderful environments, story, and acting. Not great combat and collision detection with the environment. If they can fix the latter two issues this could be an excellent title.

Totally agree. I thought Enslaved was entirely average. Not even the acting was making me think it was terrific.

It definitely wasn't terrible, I enjoyed most of what I played... It was just completely on par with most other games like it.

However, I will admit that the game play looks solid.
