Self-explanatory 'Air Band' app hits Kinect Fun Labs August 22

When we first heard the name "Kinect Fun Labs - Air Band," it wasn't hard to conjure a pretty accurate image of what the widget would turn out to be: fake on-screen instruments that you play by gesturing.

As revealed in these screens, Kinect Fun Labs summons neon phantoms of guitars, drums, and keyboards for you to play in your suddenly stage-like home. If mastering fictional instruments sounds like a good time, you won't have to wait long to start: Air Band will be out August 22.

If I wanted to play fictional instruments, I'd play the space-oboe.

If it costs money, then it's overcharging for something I can do for free.

At least it's more than just Air Guitar. I can imagine a few execs probably wanted to save the rest of the band for a sequel or dlc.

This fun lab is a smart move. I wish Sony would release a similar lab for PSMove... remember that awesome hadoken demo?

If it's free, then hey I'll play it! It could be fun (again if it's free).

As soon as I saw the screenshot, I instantly and involuntarily imagined the instrument models jumping around with the inaccuracy of tracking.

Man, when AR gets really smooth, it's going to be so awesome. But we ain't there yet.

i could just put on my ipod and air guitar out to green day...there 60$ saved

For something that can be done anywhere anytime, this is a pointless idea. Why not just put some music on and air jam that way? This should be free. I like kinect but this is just.... a bit much i guess.

Now if only KFL wouldn't lock up every time I try to launch it, that would be great.

Mine too!! I cleared the cache and everything. Worked before I installed Kinect Avatar and even removed fun labs altogether and it still does it after reinstall... whatever.
