A huge win for developers. I've been asking them for this for years, as an alternative to UDK.

Although I've been using UDK for the last 2 years, the opportunities I've had to use CryEngine3 have shown that it's a huge improvement in certain areas as well.

The one thing Joystiq should note however, is that the engine is free until you use it to release at title. At that point, you need to pay a commercial fee, which is negotiated with Crytek.

For those who don't know, GameStop is now accepting pre-orders for Fears for Spheres. Just landed a copy myself.

@Frostblade10 Actually, you may be thinking of Tears for Jeers...insanely popular on YouTube, for sure.

@singleandlovinit I can respect that. But on my end of the spectrum, I was really feeling the bonus DLC side mission, "Borb's Revelation", where he finally remembers a lost memory of his romantic past.

@liquidsoap89 At that point they'll probably just reboot the series as S.P.H.E.R.E.S.

So, question:
Do you listen to Tears for Fears while playing Fears for Spheres?

I'm in for a surprise. No, I really am. I have no experience with any type of programming except for Java and Flash, and I have an eMachines $400 computer. Yay for being cheap!

Do you actually need programming experience to use this?

@Iron Man While I can't say this with absolute certainly, my understanding is you don't need any programming experience to use the SandBox editor and design your own levels. If you want to MODify existing mechanics or create new ones, however, that's what you'll need some programming skill for.

If you are at all curious, I strongly encourage you to get the SandBox editor and mess around. :)
