Following yesterday's announcement of the Dota 2 public beta, Valve informed us today that the stress testing should begin "a few weeks following Gamescom," the mega-sized games convention currently taking place in Germany.
A Valve representative also told us that the company is targeting the Dota 2 launch for the end of this year, but it could be early next. Steam users who registered should keep an eye out for an invite to the beta shortly.
Update: Speaking to Eurogamer, Valve boss Gabe Newell stated that he doesn't believe Dota 2 will ship until 2012

@Kiichi Sorry to tell you, but they got all the people they want for the beta. I think they left it open long enough to get the players they need and then closed it. It was only open from about 3pm - 11pm my time. Luckily I was f5'ing when the signup page came up.

Watching the tournaments and it looks pretty cool :) I quit playing LoL a couple of months ago cause of the terrible community. I hope this one's will be better :S

So, will these betas sell for $300 like the Starcraft ones?
I bet they will only accept people who have a good Steam record. No new accounts.

I've watch the live stream of the tournament. The definitely looks promising and I think it's safe to say it's worth moving from the old Dota to Dota 2.
