Elevator Action Deluxe descends to PSN on Aug. 31 [update: screens]

Taito is keeping fairly close to the source material in Elevator Action Deluxe, in a Bionic Commando Rearmed sort of way. The PSN game is essentially an HD update with the original side-view gameplay and the familiar rows-of-doors stage layout.

Additions to the formula include new weapons, occasional high-speed elevators, and new (offline) multiplayer modes. Those modes include a deathmatch, and competitive modes in which players race to steal secret files from red doors. The secret files, according to the website, are now represented by "TAITO old game pamphlets!"

We don't have to wait long at all to experience the new Action: it'll be out August 30th in North America and August 31st elsewhere, for $9.99/£7.99/€9.99.

Sweet, I loved this game as a kid. I had no idea enough people liked it they felt worth doing an HD remake.

Haha I like how the title makes it seem like the game had to lower itself to PSN. Next article: Elevator Action ascends to Xbox Live.

You never ascended in classic Elevator Action. It always went down. So "descend" is the correct word play.

I wonder if Taito would bother porting GOLGO13 or TIGER-HELI too.

Hell, they should just throw a ton of 80's classics onto a single blu-ray, I'd buy it. Back in the day, it was tough convincing my folks to even spot me quarters, so I never even got the chance to play elevator action. ='(

(truth be told, I could fire up MAME, but it isn't as fun playing on a computer plus I couldn't find alot of the roms, though I'm sure I could now with a little work).

Yessssssssssssssssss. Hot damb I loved this game. I remember going to the arcades back in the 80"s, ( yes the arcades ), and playing this game.. Hope it turnes out as good as the original. Must demo 1st.

This is EXACTLY what I said I wanted them to do in a previous article comment. We need more people doing graphical updates of great classic games and not changing any of the actual controls schemes or levels. In fact, go ahead and make new and different levels, but only in additional to faithful recreations of the originals. Day one purchase for me!

Oh I hope to god it has the same song. Freaking loved that song.

I wish Taito would bring out a 'Taito Legends 3' out for the PS3 with everything that was on '1 + 2' + more old-skool games from them! :P :P :P

Unfortunately, Taito Legends 1 and 2 didn't exactly light up the sales charts. Heck, neither was even published by Taito/Square Enix themselves; Sega published the first one, and Empire Interactive published the second. The first one didn't sell well enough for Sega to pick up the second, and the second didn't sell well enough to keep Empire in business.

I'd be interested in seeing a collection that included all the Darius games, though.

I hope the opening sound effect from climbing down the rope is still there! also wonder our mr. protagonist got a new car waiting for him too.

No XBLA version? I have a PS3, but would rather play it on my 360.

After many times seeing people complain about the comment feature going awry I am finally seeing it for myself.

Would be great if this actually included the original too. Still one of my favourite games.

As for Bionic Commando: Rearmed, that felt a lot like Elevator Action Returns did to the original Elevator Action ... I'd kill for another Elevator Action Returns type game on XBLA/PSN!

looks nice and ill definitely be keeping an eye on it... but i really was hoping they would have gone for a little bit more of an elevator action returns style.. that game is one of my all time favorites.

This game was so hard. I could never get past the 3rd building. Or maybe I was too young..!?
