The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky was first released on PSP for Japan in October 2006, and for North America in March of this year, and has since steadily soared to 200,000 units shipped.
Trails in the Sky began with a humble shipment of only 30,000, solidifying the game's status as an unexpected hit. Not to be outdone, the upcoming sequel, titled Trails of Blue, has passed 200,000 pre-orders in advance of its September release in Japan.

And it was just released in March. And they wonder why Japanese games have a hard time catching on here.

@chrono Bandai Namco screwed up the localization of the first 3 Legend of Hero games with a lazy job in translation etc... So this pretty much ruined the reputation of the series and no publisher was willing to pick it up on top of the PSP not being very popular in the USA. But you can now thank XSEED who is localizing it now.

@Special Agent Steve
So if this game was released in Japan 5 years ago and it just now has reached 200,000 in units sold, then what is the significance here? That sounds like some poor sales to me.

@auflame Well, technically it was the third, fourth and fifth games (and Namco Bandai released them in the wrong order).

I purchased the XSeed translation for USA, but I'm not sure if this is positive news for the translation of the second.
It's weird that the Japanese version didnt sell that well yet the sequel has so many preorders already. How did the USA version sell then?

"When the game launched The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky had an initial shipment of 30,000 units. Now, the single title that spawned a series of its own reached 200,000 copies. It isn’t clear if this figure also includes North American sales."
You mean that article?

I'm still holding out hope that XSEED will bring the Second Chapter out over here. Of course with this being the twilight year for the PSP, I really shouldn't hold my breath. Still, I'm glad that the first game, along with all of the Ys games that XSEED worked on, came out over here. Thanks, guys!

@FinalFantasyXIIIsucks By the way, it's Legend of Heroes: TitS.

They're bringing it. When Xseed sign the deal with Falcom to localize these games they committed to the entire series from the start. Now what form we see it in might be questionable...could be PSN-only. Maybe even on a Vita memory stick even that system takes off (there has been talk about releasing PSP games on Vita memory sticks before...).

Hmm. Looks a bit like a visual novel. I'll probably rent it, hopeless otaku that I am.

@The Blank Mage Returns it's classy J-RPG and quite good at that just don't expect ending to be wrapped up as it only part 1 (story is 3 games)

@DokiDokiBawanga It's actually 2 parts the main story. Chapter 3 is more of a spin-off which focuses on the story of another protagonist, but in the same world. The main juice is part 1 and 2. And they will release it in the States because of the deal they made. It's also most likely to be UMD release since the file of the game is equivalent to 2 UMDs.

I had both the first and second US PSP releases (legend of heroes, not trails in the sky), I thought they were pretty good, but all too often I swear the game doesn't even tell you where to go or what to do, so sometimes I spent hours trying to figure out just what the heck I'm supposed to be doing. I wonder if these ones are different? Anyone who's played em know?

Unfortunately the localization of the earlier Legend of Heroes games was completely atrocious. I'm not surprised that even key information was left out...
But the Trails in the Sky series is nothing like that. Xseed did an absolutely fantastic job with the localization. Knowing where to go is never a problem.

I've heard a fair amount of raving for this game. I'll have to check it out, hopefully before it becomes maddeningly hard to find. Also, good on Xseed for finally putting out a game that sells well.

I've been waiting for a engrish patch for this game since 2006 :) even played most of the game in japanese which sucked because the only way I know how to get through certain quests and know parts of the story line was reading guides on gamefaqs and etc xD
Gotta buy a copy of this game since its such a fantastic game = D

My premium edition is still in the mail coming from Amazon. Can't wait for that to arrive! Between the Ys titles, Lunar and Half Minute Hero, I'm fairly confident that I can buy any game with an Xseed logo and be happy with it.
Excellent translations, full color manuals and inner case, nice "premium" edition extras, pretty cool folks in my book.
