Nah. I'll wait for EA's Rock Band DOTA. Gotta use that plastic crap sitting in my living room for something.

@FriedConsole When it comes to Guitar Hero vs. Rock Band, I couldn't care less about EA or Activision. Rock Band is just simply better due to the keyboard and the MASSIVE OCEANS OF DLC.

Probably DOTA2. Fact of the matter is those people wanting DOTA2 are either currently playing HoN or WC3 DOTA. Those that want something different then the copy and paste of DOTA are playing LoL.

They can make as many DOTA clones and wannabes as they want, but LoL is bigger then WoW now and that's just not going to change... DOTA2 or not.

They'll be unleashing a new, much faster mode muc like Battlefield's "Conqiest" mode, called Dominion. No more 30 minute long matches. That's about the only thing that could bring me back at this point, after they put that stupid limit on Co-Op/Bot Match EXP and IP. The community is also pretty crappy, but that's a duel for another day.

Because it's brilliantly executed for being such a simple gametype/scenario.

@dioxholster well it's not an RPG actually, you get into a square map with other 4 heroes (5 v 5), you have an ancient you have to defend, and you need to destroy the enemy's ancient. creep waves come out from you barracks and make their way through 3 lanes fighting whatever they have in sight. Throughout the lanes there are 3 towers per team to avoid the enemy team to advance. you need to destroy towers, barracks and stuff to get to the enemy ancient and destroy it. It's quite a fun game, lots of strategy and very heavily team oriented. give it a try, you can play HoN, LoL, or Warcraft 3's DotA

@Once known as Shadsy

To make it simple:
- 5 vs 5
- 1 map, 2 bases, 3 lanes connecting the bases
- Pick 1 from 90+ heroes(DotA), help your creep pushing the enemy's base.
- 3 skills + 1 Ultimate skill.
- Kill enemy creeps&heroes& for money&exp, buy items to beef up your hero.
- Destroy their biggest building, gg.

@Fire Walk With Me Nah, Valve will be fine. This is a mod for Starcraft. Anyone who is going to be playing this will already be playing Starcraft. I can't imagine someone buying Starcraft just for a custom map. Valve's DotA 2, on the other hand, is a standalone game will all of Valve's resources (or at least the DotA 2 division) behind it whereas Blizzard's Starcraft 2 team is also working on, well, Starcraft 2.

Depends if you're a DotA veteran or if you're new to the games and would like to get into them it seems. My guess is that Blizz DotA (hrm maybe BDotA?) will cater more towards new comers with some nice training wheels. Where as I'm expecting DOTA 2 to just throw me into the fire and let the flaming begin! Nothing quite like playing Jeriziah (Omniknight) in HoN and keeping your whole team alive 3x longer than they should have been to after the fight be told that it was your fault we lost that battle cause my ult was used late... no one was dead and everyone was at 60% hp. (for those who don't know the ult gives 1000 armor making you almost invulnerable to physical damage and heals for 25 hp / s)

@Grimbear13 I like to think of myself as a DOTA veteran, did play a fair bit of 4.3 and the surrounding, 'best' versions if memory serves.

I think you're probably right, DOTA 2 looks set to pick up the original's tradition of a steep learning curve and ridiculous flaming and fascist interrogation on item prices and names of ultis before you're even allowed to begin the game...

Dota has always been harsh for newbies. But when a player can start to carry their own weight, it will be so worth it. ^_^

As much as I love Blizzard I have a feeling that DOTA 2 will be better than Blizzard DotA. For one DOTA 2 has the original developer and a whole team behind it plus will be able to use the original DotA information and values at a one to one ratio. Where as Blizzard DotA will be new built from the ground up. The mod at Blizzcon 2010 wasn't that impressive though I only played one game in it things seemed off. The inventory system was weird and a handful of other oddities that I can't really remember. Anyways if they're going for a easy to learn approach it will be good for people who are trying to get into the scene but I feel that people such as myself who are familiar with these games will probably stick to their particular flavor. Currently I'm playing HoN until DOTA 2 comes out and I can give that a try and then see which I like more!

IceFrog is not the original developer of dota, he is simply the latest in a long line.

"One of the game development philosophies we have at Blizzard is: easy to learn and difficult to master."

I think he was drunk when he said that. While I hope that D3 to some degree fits that mold, SCII did not. The knowledge barrier to be successful in SCII is through the roof. WoW has a pretty smooth learning curve, but SCII online isn't a curve, it's a nigh insurmountable mountain (and this is coming from a guy who counts frames in fighting games).

You seem to be defining success as winning versus other people in online matches. However, the mechanics of the game itself are pretty ridiculously easy to learn, as evidenced by the campaign mode. So Blizzard really did make a game that was easy to learn - but they can hardly control what people do with that game (which in the case of an online RTS is that the playerbase itself ratchets up the difficulty for a newcomer).
Basically, "knowing how to play the game" means different things to different people. To Blizzard's design team, it means easy to pick up mechanics. To the online player, it means counters, positioning, and all the other crap you have to master before being able to get out of bronze league. You can know how to shoot, but that won't help you land skillshots. Blizzard can only make the "shoot" button easy to use - it can't stop the other person from dodging (well, they could, but then it wouldn't be a skillshot).

DOTA doesnt belong to any company...

DoTA is a wc3 mod based off of a SC mod Aeons of Strife. DoTA 2 is DoTA repainted with smoother gameplay from valve. HoN is a standalone game based almost exactly off of DoTA by S2. LoL is a standalone game based losely off of DoTA by Riot.

Got it?

DotA is a Wc3 mod. Stands for Defense of the Ancients.

Dota 2 is Valve's upgrade for DotA. The name is just "Do-ta" to avoid legality issues.

LoL is a spinoff of DotA.
HoN is S2's repaint for DotA.
