If only Intel had released Larrabee now instead of next year or in 2013. Indie devs wouldn't have to appeal to the lowest common denominator in regards to graphics. I would love to see games done in CryEngine 3 that aren't a FPS or a MMO.

I thought Larrabee was, in it's form as a GPU, cancelled?

@Nosada Well, it has continued as a development platform. Maybe we will see it continued in a similar form.

So what.. that's about 10,000 real developers and 90,000 wannabes that'll never release anything?

You also have to think about the new developers who needed help with getting a nice looking engine for their game. Most developers were unknown until they made an awesome game.

I'm one of those 90,000 people wanting to learn how to make programs for the future. I have my game ideas ready, now I just need the knowledge.

@ComedyInK me too I've been looking around to do a serious mmorpg for my friend but it seems much like a rather intimidating task to do all the 3d design

@SirUrza You don't get it they made the engine free so more developers who have unique ideas will get involved it's a very smart idea quit whining

@nightripper

Maybe you don't know the definition of whining, but there was no whine in my post.

Look at Silicon Knights, they're suing Epic because the Unreal Engine wasn't enough pre-packaged game for them to shake and bake something out quickly... yet how many other companies made games and continue to make games using it?

My point was it takes more knowledge then a free game engine to create a game and that most of those downloads will result in little to nothing becuase it takes more knowledge about making games then just having an engine.

Note that the download is for "non-commercial reasons", meaning that it's 100% not real, corporate make-a-game-for-a-console developers that are downloading it. I'm sure CryTek sells the full package to developer game companies.

@Paul Jimson

pixel2life.com They have a lot of tutorials, I'd recomend getting either 3DS Max or Maya, but that's your personal preference, I was learning how to make rooms and buildings but I got lazy and stopped.

@SirUrza

Silicon Knights are suing Epic because they did not provide enough technical support, they paid a lot of money to use the tech behind UE3, and they do deserve tech support, a lot I really don't agree/support/disagree with the lawsuit.

@pluupy

It's the real deal, they will be upgrading it as they go along, the only difference between the 'full' license and 'fair-use-non-commercial' is money and the amount of expert support.

Only 100,000 games?

I actually was one to download it lol.... I've been switching between Unity3D and the UDK for the past year, seeing which I'm more comfortable with using... Currently I'm just seeing what I can make, or how easy it is for myself to create on each separate engine.. for me personally, Unity has been the easiest to learn, and I've gotten more done on that engine then any other.. guess time will just tell which I use.

unity3d = no dx11 = fail
udk = dx11 = win
cryengine 3 = no dx11 + forced online check = fail
irrlicht = no dx11 = fail
ogre3d = no dx11 = fail

@sleepwheel Why do I need DX11 to create a game?... For me, Unity is easier to script in and to put things together like gameplay elements. UDK is great, i'll admit that, its just for me personally, Unity3D has been easier and funner.

I asked this in the previous article about the SDK, but do you need any prior experience in order to use it?
