I like that it just looks like a game stick and not a specific game branded stick. I think that's what holds me back from buying one...that and the price point. I did try the street fighter iv stick though and it was mighty nice so I might pick this up...if it's not too pricey (which I'm sure it will be)

You can always change the picture out on the stick. I bought a TvC stick and I'm currently designing a new picture for the top. Then when I'm done I'm just going to o to Kinkos get it printed out and then scrape the old stickart off.

If you're looking for a cheap stick, just want a bit of effort put into it. I'd say look into a Cthulhu MC(MC stands for MultiConsole. It works on every console, just for some of them you need to sodder a bit of their controller into the board to get it to work. Also if sony ever patches it so your stick doesn't work. Wait 3 days then run the Cthulhu patcher (the board has memory on it) and it works again) and how to install one (it's actuallty very easy to do but I was a bit confused on my first one) then throw it in a TvC stick. It's what I did. I then changed the buttons out (which is as easy as pushing them out and poping new ones in) and changed my plate because I prefer Octagonal restriction over box (which is what normally comes in the MadCatz sticks) and I had a new stick that costed me less then $60. Oh and you'll need to buy a USB to USB-B cable for plugin.
However if you plan to game on the 360, then ignore all this because getting a cthulhu to work on the 360 (from my understanding) is a bit of a pain compared to all the other consoles.

Not really. all you do is get some wire strippers, strip the plastic part around the wires. Put it in the Cthluhu then screw the Cthulhu down. It's a very easy system. The soddering part is the only part that needs effort, but that's if you want it to work on consoles without USB ports, or the 360.

Nothing against madcatz but I find it utterly ridiculous that they continue to just Rebrand/re-license the same arcade stick and sell it over and over. Why stick with just sanwa parts there are other good suppliers, I thought madcatz would grow up and start offering a customization option with their joysticks. Think about it you could go online and and select different color buttons or sticks and which manufacturer you prefer. Sorry madcatz epic fail this time I just realized I own all of your arcade sticks just by owning the first tournament edition.

@type2red I don't think they're trying to dupe you. They're just offering different face plates as time goes on.

They don't market it as some amazingly new product each time :P

Actually their TE's never change but their SE change a bit here and there. New madcatz made buttons or sticks. Witht he TvC joystick they finally fixed the problem of the joystic breaking due to light use. However the stick is super wobbly.

Isn't Mad Catz unreliable? I remember buying a controller by them and it stopped working a week later for no reason...

@Jay Z Madcatz doesn't really make any of the electronics in this joystick . The key parts are all from Japanese arcade parts manufacturers.

Madcatz buys a bunch of parts made from other people (other then buttons and the stick now. They actually make those parts, and they suck. My MadCatz made stick was super wobbly out of the box. Buttons were just super stiff even after being broken in) then they put it together and sell it. You could do the same exact thing they do by going to lizard lick and buying the parts your self cutting off $80. You'll just have to have your own case. My friend does this and for about a year (before I gave him a case to a stick I got for free) he had a stick in a cardboard box taped together.

@Jay Z - I can't speak for their normal controllers but they've made all the recent Rock Band peripherals & so far, I've had zero issues with the keyboard that I got by them last October so they've improved to some degree over the **** they used to sell.

I will buy that PS3 controller just so I can change the stick layout to match the 360's. That has been my only major complaint with the PS3.

Hmm, I am thinking we are going to hear an announcement of SSFIV AE joining the circuit in Raleigh. Why else would MadCatz brand a stick after MLG and make announcements at a MLG event.

@ adr916

Starcraft 2 has been at MLG for awhile now and is the more popular game at MLG. League of Legends will be at MLG Raleigh this weekend also.

@Xplicit

I'm thinking something similar. MLG may be trying to push the Evo guys out. Considering their Dallas tournament was held on the same Evo weekend and that Evo pulled in 80+ viewers.

Yup, would be a smart move for them. Seeings as they have already brought on league of legends which averages 80-100k concurrent viewers per event. I just hope they stick to just SSFIV AE though.

I've been playing fighting games for more than a decade and Hori is the only branded arcade joystick I trust. Although I can admit that MadCatz has stepped up their game tremendously. But having that great accomplishment itself isn't enough to rid them of the shadow that cloaks them, for being famous for shit ass quality video game accessories.
