We must say, if you're currently working on a live-action film based on Portal, just stop right now. Stop what you're doing and watch Portal: No Escape, because this is how it's done.
Portal live-action film is pretty much the best live-action film

Maybe I'll get downvoted for this but I don't care, I'm just gonna say it.
Truly disappointing. Because it didn't have GLaDOS, it didn't have Wheatley, it didn't have Cave Johnson, it didn't even have that random male prerecorded voice at the beginning of Portal 2... not even a turret! I mean, the special effects were nice, yes, but... really, if it wasn't for the Portal gun I would not have realized it was Portal. GLaDOS made the game what it was. This... anyways, I digress. Kudos for the special effects.
This would make a great trailer though... and yet, still, one line, a single line from GLaDOS at the end would make it the perfect trailer to an amazing movie.

Ok GlaDOS is missing I'll give you that but everything else you listed is really a secondary part of the Portal games (seeing as they weren't introduced until the sequel). My intrepretation of the video is this:
It occurs before the events of Portal when there were still people working at Aperture Science
The test subject was given a puzzle to see if she has the logical thinking to be a useful test subject
It shows the gradual progression of the test subject's understanding of how the device works, an intergral part of the game, leading up to her understanding the conservation of momentum through portals which is a big thing in the game
She gets to the end and her prize (Freedom) is a lie, just like the cake in the game

@Shadow31 I was about to agree with you.
Then I remembered that this began filming before Portal 2 was out.
So now, I'll just downvote you.
Sure, I'm dissapointed about no GlaDOS. But this is quite literally perfect in every other way.

@Shadow31 I agree with you. I was actually quite bored for the first half of the vid. The special effects were good once the portal was on the wall, the projectile was a bit off (but still way better than I could produce so kudos).
I also wondered why she left the blue portal open on the lower level of the stairs for the guards to walk through to easily catch up. While the conservation of momentum was a nice touch, it was a massive leap of faith for the girl. She had no idea that speedy thing goes in and speedy thing comes out. If she was wrong, she would be dead. She already had proved that she could dispatch the guards quickly.
I disagree with the comments that this was filmed before portal 2 came out. While that may be the case, if this is the first time anyone is seeing it, then they had plenty of time to add a few things from portal two. It wouldn't be that hard to add Wheatly popping up in the background behind a panel (like in the game) for a few seconds.
So in short, this is a good quality display of talent in special effects, DP skills, etc. But the content felt lacking in my opinion.

They kind of broke the video when somebody other than Chell was included. Part of the awesome of the Portal atmosphere is the total isolation of living human contact. Robots, recordings, and writing on the wall. No other people.

You may consider that prior to the unfortunate events during Bring Your Daughter to Work Day the Aperture Labs were filled with scientists, test subjects, and certainly security personal. This could represent early tesitingof the device. The fake cityscape could even be the perimeter of a test sphere seen in the 'old' sections of the labs.
Perhaps if you view the video in that setting your preconceptions and expectations won't ruin something that you otherwise might enjoy.

Very well done. Yes she looks kinda asian but who said it was Chell? It could have been any of the numerous soon to be dead test subjects. Problem solved.

I would love to see a mini web series for portal, it was so much potential, and "Win" Written all over it.
I'd defo buy it on blu-ray if it was released, i mean, Im getting chills just thinking of it.

This reminds me of the other live-action Half Life shorts I've seen. I'm always left wanting more and wish that Valve actually wanted to turn their properties into movies/TV series.
Don't even get me started on how Team Fortress 2 should have been an animated series on Adult Swim like years ago.

Sure, it lacked GLADoS and had only guards, but for all its worth, its pretty damn amazing.
This is stuff i aspire to do as a director and as a gamer.
If the had this guy, and the lady who voices GLADoS, and Gabe Newells infinite wallet and power, we would have the best movie of the decade

While it does bring down that atmosphere a bit, remember that she was still inside the building. This probably meant everything she just experienced was a test on GLADoS' part.

Still amazed how fans are able to make better live action films then profesional ones. They need to grab a group of hard-core fans and just make these movies or TV shows.

Do not look at the operational end of the device. She didn't have GLaDOS to warn her. Someone had to do it.

It's pretty spectacular, the atmosphere fits really well.
In my opinion Wheatly or Cave Johnson would have ruined it, and good luck seeing GLaDOS on their budget.
They've done really well with what they've got, the effects were awesome.

am i the only one who hates how the gun is griped? i know its canon to the game but you have this big massive gun and then an awkward hidey hole to stick your finger tips for a standard pistol grip. it looks odd and hard to imagine your are going to be able to hold on when you are doing some of that high velocity stuff. i like the idea of it being and whole arm deal.
anyway its a neat little video, nothing too original, wonder where they got the gun.
