Sonic 4 Episode 2 rolling into place in 2012
59
Sega has apparently joined the effort forged by Valve to change the rules of how long you can go between episodic releases, while still being allowed to call said releases "episodes." In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Sonic Team's Takashi Iikuza talked about Sonic 4, explaining, "This year, 2011, is the anniversary, so we're focusing on the celebration title." He later added, "But moving forward to 2012, Sonic will still be going, so I'd hope to provide Episode 2 then."
In other news, have you guys seen this new show, Best Buds Living It Up In New York? It's this great new NBC sitcom. The first episode aired last night, and the next episode is going to air in about eighteen months.

The first time they released a Sonic game in episodes, it was only 8 months between them.
I am of course talking about Sonic 3 / Sonic & Knuckles.

Just kill off sonic already he sucks, the last good game was sonic adventure for the dreamcast. Sega are a pathetic excuse for a game developer and should just give up instead as they release nothing but garbage.

While I didn't like most of the new (After Sonic 3), I still value SEGA. I mean they publish for Platinum Games and I really enjoyed Vanquish.
But yeah, I could never get into the 3D Sonic games and the DS ones were just horrible level design wise.
Now if they could just make the physics of Sonic 4 less crappy it could actually make an awesome game.

Episodic gaming has always been a joke. Telltale has done a decent job with it but it's probably caused them more trouble than it's worth. I'm glad Jurassic Park is coming out on disc for 360, hopefully they'll get BTTF out at some point too.
As for Valve it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that there will never be an "Episode III", it'll just be Half-Life 3.
@eat it
Condemned was made by Monolith (not the Japanese Monolith) who also made F.E.A.R. I hope they get around to wrapping up the story, those games were way better than the F.E.A.R. games.

I always wondered: who the hell changed Sonic's legs from short to long?
Posted: Aug 23rd 2011 3:32PM Shadow Hog said
@Ballistic H
Presumably, Yuji Uekawa, the artist for Sonic Adventure.
Now, who decided to KEEP making them longer, up to the comically tall legs in Sonic 2K6, who knows?

Everyone is forgetting that Sega knows most fans hated Sonic 4 so they'll probably give it the Sonic Generations physics and better level design

Add on another six months for when it gets leaked and everyone says THIS IS SHIT and after a delay we get a game that's not quite as bad as it could have been.

Because when I think episodic gaming, I think multiple years between entries!
Seriously, they could've developed full titles in this timespan. The hell? At least with Valve you have Valve Time, but I don't think that applies to Sega...

Sega, seriously, WTF. Stop this nonsense. You already messed up, and made up for it with Generations. Leave him alone for a little while already.

Valve has set a terrible precedent with release dates. I don't want to see Sega follow suit. Don't get me wrong, I don't want an EA-Activision style "EVERY YEAR OR YOU DIE!" schedule either but give me a break.
Don't promise a game and take years to give it to me. 3D Realms did the same and someone else had to publish theirs. As it is, I've already stopped caring about Half-Life (but not Gordon Freeman, no one can stop you caring about Gordon Freeman.)
(I'm not equating Half-Life 2: Episode 3 and/or Half-Life 3 to DNF, BTW)

Now they just have to not improve on anything from the first episode and make it cost $15 to make this release as bad as possible.

It was an okay game hampered by really awful physics quirks. The instruments chosen for the music were also pretty awful, although the compositions themselves were mostly okay.
If Episode 2 fixed most of the physics issues, notably the EXTREMELY slow acceleration and stop-dead-in-midair quirk, it'd likely be a much better game.

@(Unverified) I enjoyed it and thought the physics complaints were blown vastly out of proportion.
The problem came with the unoriginal level design and it costing $15. But it wasn't a bad game.

I really enjoyed sonic 4, I thought it was a great throw back to the originals. People saying Sonic stopped dead when you let go of the joystick may have had a point, but I never noticed - it's Sonic the Hedgehog! You never let go of the joystick. Push right, jump and hope for the best. That's the way it's always been and if you don't like it, don't play it. Sometimes I think people just buy these games so they can bitch online about them. If that's how being a videogames fan works these days, then you'll have to excuse me as I'm just about to go to the shops to pick up my copy of Call of Duty...

Everyone seems to have thought that, and I'm not sure why. Sega NEVER said they were ditching Sonic 4 for Generations, and instead kept insisting Episode 2 was under development. It's like the Internet collectively put words in Sega's mouth.
